Before I get flamed, I'd like to point out that I listen to music with ONE ear bud in my RIGHT ear, since I am a right handed shooter, and I wear hearing protection. This way I can hear the range master on my left.

With that being said....What's your favorite song to listen to while shooting?

currently playing:
Drowning pool - Step Up

Gets boring after a while. I felt the need to add a soundtrack starting last week

Re: Tunes while you shoot!

I generally don't b/c I am in work mode and want to make sure I accomplish a training task. However, when I do - pff, both ear buds over a set of amplified ear pro. The Crystal Method / Chemical Brothers are great to do fast paced pistol or carbine work to.

Good luck

Re: Tunes while you shoot!

I don't shoot while listening to anything other than the muffled noises of everything around me. Too many idiots show up at ranges to take the risk of not noticing the numbnuts felon em-effer who'd do you in for your gear. I also think that people who carry firearms, openly or concealed, who do so while listening to music through headphones need to undergo a damned reality check. And I like music, for sure.

Re: Tunes while you shoot!

I'm not talking about listening to music during a match, out hunting, or even in the middle of a firefight. Besides, I'm sure without hearing your resp. and HR, you can surely feel them. I shoot fine with or without music AND distractions for that matter.

That's too bad, looks like no music for you! you'd always have to keep one eye on the shady guy next to you and the other on the target.

Here's your reality check, The hearing-impaired legally own and operate firearms as well.

Yeah, and they compensate for their impairment with their other senses. I've noticed that they have driver's licenses, too, and can follow conversations readily if they lip-read and you're kind enough to face them as you speak.

Fucking hell ...

Re: Tunes while you shoot!

I tried listening to music while shooting... It destroys my concentration and negatively impacts my shooting ability... Too worried about humming some song than remembering to control breathing, trigger squeeze, etc etc

Re: Tunes while you shoot!

If the conditions are right then sure but it's got to be done safely. Most jobs I've had (I'm a welder) They don't care if you have headphones in if you're off by yourself welding or whatever but if you're running a crane, in a high traffic area, communicating with a partner or having to keep an eye on multiple things at once while welding then no. Shooting by yourself or with a couple other people who know what there doing sure. At the range with other idiots probably not. To many idiots and range commands, plus I don't trust a lot of people there since I try to have nice gear and not cheap crap. A lot of people like to stare at the guy with the cool toys at public ranges since most of them don't seem to be serious shooters and a bit cheap as well.

Re: Tunes while you shoot!

No way, no how, no sir! I think that makes as much sense as blaring the radio on a patrol or convoy. Why tempt fate?

My usual shooting when in the US is solo at a private gun club, and I'm almost always the only guy on the line with no RO present. We're self policing; first to show is in charge. I could be blaring anything I wanted to, but I never would.

For me there is any number of reasons not to. Listening for unusual sounds during discharge, animals approaching (in dense woods), weapon functioning sounds, persons wandering like stray hikers, etc all make more sense to me than some listening enjoyment. Not to mention just my own concentration level too. Besides, how can you hear your steel hits?

To each their own, but those that do please make sure it is safe. Solo in the middle of a massive dry lake with 5 mile visibility comes to mind.

If you really need to live your life with a soundtrack, might I recommend hanging out at Pottery Barn or Starbucks?

Yes! of course as conditions permit!

I shoot at a private gun club so I don't have to worry about thieves or idiot shooters. I've even noticed a few members who leave their vehicles unlocked with their trunks open! Being the New Yorker that I am, I would never do that and am always overly protective of my belongings. Listening to music does not take away from my ability to SEE someone creeping up on my gear.

Anyways back on track, here's another good song..

Drowning pool - Bodies

chemical brothers sounds interesting, I'll have to try that out next time!

If you really need to continue this, what of the other senses that the hearing impaired utilize to compensate for their loss/lack of hearing? I'm sure we're born with those senses as well and are able to utilized them the same.

Re: Tunes while you shoot!

No, Ketchup, you have all the answers. No need to add anything more at this point, Kemo Sabe.

Re: Tunes while you shoot!

I have a minimum 5 different things going on in my head at all times. It makes for sleepless nights and too many projects going on at once. Driving a rifle is the only thing that clears that out and lets me completely focus on one thing. Putting music back in my head would ruin it for me.

nice! kayaking does that for me. being out there on the water clears my mind. I agree, when your looking for that peacefulness, music would ruin it

Re: Tunes while you shoot!

As others have pointed out - this is not the best thing to do when one is shooting:

- On a public range
- When shooting in the middle of no where and it is important that hear what is going on around you
- When you are there to work on a specific task

When I do it, I am alone and in a bay that is off limits to the GP and I am looking to just go to default and have some fun.

Good luck
