I just got a Type S bushing FL die off of a hide member and was wondering if any body had a copy of the set up instructions paper that comes with the die brand new and could scan and email it to me? I already sent this same message to redding but I doubt anybody will see it till monday also any advice or tips y'all have for me on using it would be appreciated this is my first attempt at bushing dies

Those papers won't tell you how to set up your die for YOUR rifle. You need to get some bump gauges and adjust your die until you are just pushing the shoulder back 1 or 2 thousandths.

Re: Type S FL bushing instructions

It sets up the same as a regular FL die with one exception. After screwing the bushing retainer all the way in, you are supposed to back it off 1/16 of a turn to allow the bushing a little float to center on the case. Don't make any sense to me but I did it anyway.

Bward is exactly right. You need to set up the FL S bushing die so that it is bumping the shoulder back one or two thousandths.

You picked the S bushing die set because you can vary the neck tension by switching bushings. But the FL bushing die works the same as other FL dies otherwise.

If you have a set of headspace guages, you can adjust the die so that it is setting the shoulder back as you require. I use these: http://www.hornady.com/store/Headspace-Gauge-Kits/ If you just set the die to contact the shell plate holder and then back it off, you probably are not moving the shoulder at all. Which is maybe ok until the brass grows enough to when it isn't.

If you don't want to do it that way, then just use your rifle's chamber. After a few firings, the shoulder will have moved forward enough that it will be difficult to close the bolt on the fired brass. FL re-size the brass tightening the die down just a little bit at a time until your rifles bolt will just close easily on the piece of brass.

Good luck!

Re: Type S FL bushing instructions

Sorry I should have been a little more clear. I already have the headspace gauges and have found my desired lengths and know how to set up the die for the proper set back for my desired headspace I was more just wondering if some one had a copy of the instructions in case there was any thing extra to do with a bushing die vs. a standard die like what was said about backing off the bushing just a hair. Thanks for the replies though
