So I was lucky enough to picked up this lady in late 2022, she is a USMC property 22 Long Rifle Remington 40X , she came with the standard Olympic style front and rear sight, I had a clone hilux green 3x9 Accu range 200 to 600 scope with a badger Ord mount laying around so i wack it on for fun , I've seen many U.S Property marked 40x 22 rifles, im sure this a not uncommon 40X rifle , did the airforce navy army etc do the same or was this Usmc only deal? Does anyone else have one or know their USMC history?
I have wonder was there a electro pencil marked version ?
Remington went to the effort of roll marking these so i would think it had to be a order of a decent size .
Im happy as a kid on Christmas morning, the longer i own her the more i enjoy this rifle.

Congrats on acquiring that beautiful rifle! The USMC 40X guns are some of my favorites, they're extremely well made and are very accurate. I have 1, but wouldn't mind finding a few more for the collection. I can't remember how many the Corps ordered, but someone here probably has that information (anything can be found in the Vintage Section!). These rifles are definitely more rare than US marked ones and they sell for a premium. I've never seen any other branch with their own markings like the USMC rifles.

Here's the one I have, I put a very rare USMC Property rollmarked on it, it's a great combination and was one of the configurations used in the Corps. This is one of the firearms I will never part with, just like you I like it more and more as time goes by. You've got a cool scope on your rifle, but you might also want to try out one of these 20x Lymans and see how you like it. The USMC rollmarked ones are impossible to find, but there's plenty of regular production civilian scopes out there (they usually pop up on ebay),

I'm sure that info has been covered here at one point. But I'm not sure what has survived the many iterations of the Hide since I joined in like 2008.

A member named SDWhirlwind was the one stop shop for stuff like that. He was out of Lemmon, SD. I couldn't tell you if I ever met the man in person at any of our area rifle matches or not as I never got his real name. Lemmon is BFE in a state that outsiders think everywhere in the state is BFE.

The guy knew everything 40X related...rimfire and centerfire. But like many people he just kinda evaporated with the many changeovers. He might be here under a different name I honestly don't know. His posts stood out.

He had alluded to having some serious health issues iirc. He was a very knowledgeable guy.

cant believe sdwirlwind passed. will pray for him and his family.

we need to get a military rimfire sticky thread going...

cant post and not add my baby. USMC 40x I put in a return stock. it shoots so well.
has a zeiss 4-14 on it. a cheaper scope but with a 20 moa base and bottom screw rings, still has quite a bot of travel for 1" scope. killed p-dogs out to 350 with it.

That is a fine rifle.

Are all the USMC M40X's the early ones, based on the 722 action?

I've got a US marked 40-X, but it is the later one with the heavier barrel and the 700 action. It is a fine shooter.

I believe so, yes....all the USMC stamped guns are early 722 style and have a more tapered heavy barrel compared to the 40XB's

this is an odd question and request, but i have a nice 513-t that is a commercial, non-US stamped version of the gun. It has a military stock on it that is stamped with cartouches, etc.

would someone with a military rifle and a plain/commercial stock care to do some trading to get the correct items aligned with the right guns? or does it even matter? or should i just leave well enough alone?

My first post and it's an older thread but I had to chime in. Back when the CMP gettin was good I hand picked a USMC 40X with a matching bolt. A few years ago I found a lyman target spot rolled stamped USMC on line. I had to rent the wife out and sell two of the kids but I got it. A match made in heaven. I haven't found anything about matched pairs until now. It's nice to know that some of these combos found their way back together.
