Ukraine war Bullshit.

Yep. But if the idea of them raiding the capital had been enough to get the Ukrainian government to flee, cause enough disruption in ranks , disorganization in how to respond it could have worked. I think that was their aim. With out too much sacrifice from the Russians.

It didn’t work. Why I use the term hail marry, as it has a very little chance of success but if it does, all the better.
Personally I'm of almost the same idea but think the Russian goal was to put pressure on Ukraine to bring them to the negotiating table. Say they could use the airport it would have taken at least a couple days to get in the VDV's equipment, which means they weren't moving into a hostile city for say three days in which the Ukraines could get organised. So overall I'm not sure if they ever intended to reach Kiev with any sort of seriuos intention.
It could have also been a feint. Two thirds of the Russian forces were location in the south/Donbas and they did a pretty good job.

Couple? To seriously fight for Kiev without defense collapsing and political crash you would need “several” divisions or combined armies in range of 200k+ men and with full logistical support.

Edited: To clarify this relates to incursion and “shock therapy” not to actual events.
Google say the US has about twenty active divisions across the US Army and National Guard, these are the sort of number you are starting to look at for taking Kiev against armed resistance.
