Universal M4 family rifle

Basically, I can't afford a precision rifle and a battle rifle. What I'm going to build is one weapon that is somewhat universal. Obviously, I'm not going to reach 1000 yards with the same platform that I'm going to clear rooms but with the new calibers coming out for the AR family I can get a little in the middle. Any advice or opinions on calibers and setups?

I'd say build an AR platform with 18" barrel in 5.56mm, the noveske 18" spr barrel is a good choice. Or go with an 18" in 308.

77gr 5.56 smks out of a 16-18" spr barrel do bad things.A 2-8ish type scope and an offset doctor optics red dot or similar and you can do most anything necessary.
