Range Report Update regarding the .338 Berger Hybrid

Re: Update regarding the .338 Berger Hybrid

Bryan-

Do any of these properties carry over to the 180gr 7mm Hybrids? I have finally had some joy in load chasing, I ended up having to back them under 2900 fps from a 1:9" barrel to keep them sub MOA at 300y. The BC on the 7's matches perfectly out to 650 though, so maybe I just haven't gotten to the high accuracy node yet.

Re: Update regarding the .338 Berger Hybrid

bohem,

We haven't had any reports of the 7mm hybrids experiencing nose slump. I've only tested them up to 2900 fps myself but others have shot them faster. At 2850 fps I put 10 shots into 6" at 1000 yards with my prone rifle (from a bench rest) so they perform very well up to that velocity.

I think this nose slump problem is unique to the .338 because of the higher lead to copper ratio of the larger caliber, and the fact that the nose is crazy long (and heavy).

Re: Update regarding the .338 Berger Hybrid

Thanks Bryan. The RL17 arrives today, I'll see what they do over 3000 since I'm running into pressure issues pushing them with RL22 when I get to 2975.

As always, your information has been very helpful. I will be shooting them at Thunder Valley at the mile target on Saturday starting at 2875 fps, we'll see how it goes.
