Gunsmithing Updated UPS rules for firearms

Just an fyi...I contscted "shipmygun.com" and this will not affect them. So, we can still use their service for UPS shipping

Did they say how you get the package in the hands of UPS? That seems to be impossible based on the policy. It's not just the label, but the rules around when UPS will accept firearms. Which so far only appears to be regularly scheduled pickups at FFL.

Thanks for the update. This shit is absolutely ridiculous. The gungrabbers and the woke companies under their influence are basically trying to make it as tedious as possible for people to handle anything firearm related. As somebody seriously going into full time gunsmithing in the near future, I am not going to be discouraged though. I'll fucking do roadtrips myself if I have to.

The last two barreled actions I shipped to LRI for gunsmithing went via the UPS customer service center at my local UPS hub that’s 1.5 miles from my home.

Both times I used my UPS account to create labels and listed the make and model with the SN of each receiver and insured as necessary.

Then it was just a matter of dropping them off at the hub and getting a receipt. No muss, no fuss, no questions. (Both came back from LRI USPS priority mail)

Does this mean we can’t do this now?

I've always generated my own labels, and dropped them off at the UPS Store (2 of them within a few miles of me).
It has always been against UPS policy to ship firearms from any other location but a hub/distribution center- but no one ever pays attention to that. As I said above, I've had customers go there and have them actually pack their rifles and ship. They could care less, it's $$ they get for the packing services.

Nothing on the packaging indicates there's a firearm within- that's both policy, and Federal law.
I make sure to use my corp. LLC name (which is generic) rather than my DBA on shipping labels so there's no clue there could be anything firearms related in the package.

Fuck UPS

USPS and Fedex FTW

Oh yea, gunshow loophole FTW

Fed Ex? Lol. They are even worse. I hope that company has a glowing career in the Gay Prison Bondage Sex movie industry. We gave up on them assholes because they treat us like felons when we try to use them. FFL or not, they are a kick in the dick.

Adding to this: This is important to note. Fed Ex is the subcontractor to the USPS for Priority Mail. I learned this after the USPS lost a rifle we'd done ten or so years ago. I found that gun myself after doing the legwork and tracing it to the FedEx central hub in Memphis, TN. The lady I eventually spoke with put her hands on it as it sat in the "MIA cage" because the label had been torn off.

SO, burn that shit into your hard drive if something ever goes MIA on you. Half the PO employees don't know about this as your local office never sees the handoff. It's not until stuff gets to the bigger hub locations that the exchange is made.

Just a friendly FYI.

Experience. It's never cheap.

For any package I don't want lost, I like putting multiple labels on the outside and one inside the box. It doesn't guarantee that it will arrive, but it does reduce the chance of going MIA.

Works awesome until you need to make a lost-package claim for that barrel black and receiver that you sent off to your 'smith and are told to pound sand. In other words, it's a really dumb suggestion.

You bring it into a UPS Customer center. It's going under their service so you just bring it in and drop it off. They give you a form in case the UPS center gives you a problem and you call them and they handle it. I also spoke with them as I plan to ship a pistol out within the next couple weeks so we will see.

From their FAQs.

11. What locations can I ship my firearm from?

Firearms, including handguns, may ONLY BE SHIPPED through a Ups Customer Center (counters at Ups operational facilities). You can find the Customer Center location closest to you using the Ups Drop-Off Find Locations tool. When utilizing this tool, please make sure you are only leaving the Ups Customer Center box checked. Firearms are not accepted for shipment via Ups Drop Boxes, Ups On-Call Pickup®, or at locations of The Ups Store® or any third party retailer.

You need an account with UPS, with Hazmat service to ship ammunition.

That’s the same policy they have had, for years (minus the ORM-D) label being an option. Reread the “limited quantity” part.

Getting pretty bad for the 2A. I have no doubt this is coming for ammo.

The parasites seem to subconsciously know that the clot shots and boosters are gonna kill off most of their ilk in due time and they are desperately trying to do as much damage as they can before they croak.

We are not insidious enough to deal with these fuckers. If some woke decisionmakers in these corporations suddenly found deepfaked scat or bestiality porn of themselves made and sent to the people in their family and career circles and people all around them are convinced that their "business trips" are actually forays into nearby farms after dark to suck horse dick or lick toilets at fast food restrooms while wearing adult sized onesies, even if it was not true, that will put an end to this woke invasion very quickly. We need to be just as despicable and insidious as these people in some aspects if we want to achieve the results we want. These people want to destroy OUR way of life. I wouldn't give a fuck if these actions result in their careers, marriages, friendships, reputation, and families shattered. Too bad, you asked for it.

Nah... I was from the streets dawg... The rules are simple there. Lets say you hanging out with yo homies somewhere, not bothering nobody, just having fun, and somebody comes up for no reason, and want to give yall a hard time. I might not scrap it out with them right there, especially if the odds are not in my favor. But I am gonna be thinking like "oh aaight, homie thinks he's hard and all that. Man, aight we'll find out one of these days you know? It's gonna be awkward running into each other one day somewhere again and Imma be like AYE YO, what's up dawg, remember me?"

If you don't stick up for yourself, the other side is just gonna think you a CHUMP bro, and they gonna take everything you have in due time. That's how it works everywhere. I've come a LONG WAYS from those days, but human nature is the same across the board, no matter where you are from.

I just received a AR 9 kit from PSA yesterday nothing on the outside that identified it as firearms parts ,but PSA on the shipping label, didn't even have to sign for it ,so the new rules must not be in affect yet.

Whats dumb is you not understanding the difference between gun parts and a receiver which is serialized. They have no idea what was it in other than what you claim. If there is a loss, they will (or should) replace the lost insured value.

If you are sending a legit gun, then send it through the post office or have a FFL send it for you, It will be cheaper than trying to self mail with UPS or fedex.

This went into effect on 8/28 according to my hub center. There will be tests of the new system. As mentioned, once a claim is submitted you will be SOL.

PSA is an FFL and what they sent you is not a firearm but them being a FFL they can send whatever they want with no regard the the new UPS rule.

Have fun trying to get them to reimburse you for a $400 barrel blank or $700 bolt body when you're unwilling to provide a receipt to back up your claimed value for "machine parts".

Some info for some. Tried to ship a scope today at a UPS hub and was told “nope, that’s a gun part.” So looks like they are getting stupider than we all thought.

Okay so it's impossible to ship stuff unless your local FFL does it...great.

Pretty much. Or lie and take a chance.

To be accurate, the employee was simply following his employer's stupid rules.

Interestingly enough, I have a UPS commercial account and have yet to receive any notice of these changes.

I wonder how much business UPS will lose as companies switch to USPS. Maybe they factored that it in already and it's not big loss for them. Feels like the government is working behind the scenes to make this happen.

If FedEx and UPS have implemented these sort of restrictions, what should make me believe that the USPS won't be doing the same?

how friggin insane is that. wonder if they ship 'telescopes?'

Said that to her and she said with the description it’s coming up as a firearm part so not sure if they have their computer updated with every rifle scope out there. I will be calling and asking them “well what if it was being mounted on a crossbow?” Don’t think it will matter. Yup complete insanity.

I figured the government restricting these things would have legal ramifications. "Private business" can do what it wants, right?...

Did you print your label beforehand or was the counter person entering the info and doing it?

This is my thought process too. I figure if they make shipping firearms via USPS prohibited then that'll trigger lawsuits. But those are just my ignorant thoughts.

Printed before hand and listed what was in box as insuring it so being honest. Just went to usps and mailed it after.

It's not a rifle scope. It's a telescope. Or a lens. Or a bird watching scope. If something happens and you need to file a claim, nowhere in that entire process does the word gun or rifle or firearm need to come up.

It's time to enact laws prohibiting companies from blatantly discriminating against other companies and individuals engaging in lawful commerce. This should include shipping companies, banks, credit card companies, insurance companies, PayPal, etc. I don't give a fuck that they are private companies. When they went woke and politically correct, they gave up that argument. Just like they can't discriminate against you for race, religion, etc.

Politics are not a protected class under the law. If you own a restaurant and don't want to serve progressive liberals, you are free to do that. Just like UPS and FedEx are free to refuse to ship something—firearm or not. If UPS doesn't want to ship TVs anymore, they are free to do that. Yes... it sucks. But that's part of living in a free society. That said... fuck UPS and FedEx.

So much for freedom I suppose... Political leanings are not even remotely equivalent to the other categories you mentioned.

Wouldn’t fly. I tried telling her it was basically a telescope and not a gun part but not hearing it. Barrels have become stainless steel pipes though. 😉

Well that's because you had already disclosed it was a "rifle" scope, no? Once she already knew, it was too late. But in the future, it's a bird scope. ;)

Nope. Never said rifle scope. Just scope.

Ditto. Our usual driver does not know about the changes either.
know

Common carriers already have numerous government regulations. Let's not pretend national parcel delivery service companies such as UPS or Fedex are magical private business devoid of public investment.

Just shipped my Dominus SR back to TBAC today for the recall. Didn't have a box, the UPS store guy boxed it up for me, didn't say anything about no firearm accessories.

Hopefully it arrives and not an empty box.

At this point it would be less of a hassle to buy a round trip ticket and fly it where it needs to go yourself. Upside is you may be checking some cities off your bucket list.
