Has anyone tried USA ammo's 155 A-max? I bought it because its relatively cheap $14 for a box of 25 to use for plinking.

I immediately noticed that it seems a bit tight to chamber. I'd say about 50% of chambers just fine in a remington 700 .308 while the other half is hard to get in. All most all of it creates problems trying to extract after firing. A Savage 10FP experienced the same issues.

It seems to chamber fine in an M1A, but thats because I let the op rod fly forward, forcably chambering it. It get jammed upon extraction, which is the first time that rifle has had a FTE.

I also got one round that was missing a primer, but I guess thats another issue.

I'm wondering if I'm doing any damage to these rifles by trying the ammo. I'm thinking its just a tight casing as opposed to overpressure since I'm having issues both chambering and extracting. Has anyone else had these issues?

I should note the ammo shot accurately and I did not have these problems with their 168 A-max.

I might call them to let them know. Its not worth send back for just 1 box of ammo. In fact I already gave the rest of the box to a friend to let him pull the bullets.

Re: USAammo 155 A-max problems

I talked the their customer service. The technician said they had a bad run of the 155 earlier this year that's been taken care of. They made things right with me as well.

Re: USAammo 155 A-max problems

Not too long ago actually, maybe a month? The loads are relatively light so it shouldn't cause any damage. If it chambers, shoot it, if it doesn't, call them.

Re: USAammo 155 A-max problems

Got my order of 3 boxes today... came quickly. Went out and shot a few before the wind picked up.

Had a couple that didn't want to extract. 1 in particular that was bad. All chambered without too much effort (little more than normal, but not bad). So I'm wondering if I got some of the bad batch.

Accuracy was so so. I need to shoot some more before making any judgement calls there.

Shoots lower than any other ammo I have dope for. Most of what I use is Superformance stuff so this isn't a huge surprise but I was hoping it would be a little flatter than what I'm seeing now (only went to 400y tonight, will take it out to 700 soon)

I called them and was informed they had a bad batch of the 155 and were sending me good ones. I would say their CS was excellent in their response time for the issue.

Re: USAammo 155 A-max problems

Re: USAammo 155 A-max problems

I also had issues with a 60 round order of the 175 smk. They wouldn't chamber in my stock Savage and one even had a primer fully seated upside down. At the same time I ordered 250 rounds of the 55gr 223 and about halfway through with no failures.

The good news is, being a CS nazi, I was very pleased with how they handled it. I sent them an email explaining my issue and the next day they had a new shipment in the mail with a return label for the defective rounds. Didn't make me ship first on my dime, then wait for them to take their good old sweet time processing it, filling a new one, sending it out whenever they get around to it, etc that I've gotten from some companies.

My 308s have been shelved in place of a 243 and 260 project so I won't have a chance to put any of their match stuff downrange for a while but I will continue to buy their 223 as well as their pistol ammo. For training/range purposes, they are still my go-to.
