Another speed bumb in the road...

I have a custom 308 build by GAP (angels singing). Its a Templar Action (Gen 1 pretty sure)sitting in a bad ass Manners T4A. Badger medium rings.

So here is the problem, I was removing the old optic, and refitting it with an USO SN3 (3.5x17x44mm) and what do you know whammy... The bolt handle hits the USO mag adj ring when raised and pulled to the rear.

Now I think I have come to a solution for now, with the help of a few including the fine folks at USO, I have a pair of USO Medium Rings on the way. The Badger medium are .885" while the USO medium are 1.1". The slight raise provided by the USO rings should be good to clear the SN3.

Anyone else run into anything like this?

If so what was your solution?

Higher rings must you use. Only then will the force be with you!!

Re: USO Meets Templar Issue

what bolt handle you got on there?

if its a short/fat one like a badger you could trade off for a long/skinny one like AZ precision 'marksman' handle. Or I bet you could get one custom spun to meet your tolerances.

None of this is as fast/easy as taller rings, which will get you on the range faster, which I know must be the all consuming desire when piecing together a custom for the first time.

(been there)

Re: USO Meets Templar Issue

Very glad you posted this because I've been considering the Templar for another rifle.

But, I prefer to mount the scope as low as possible.

Diablo, You might want to check with the guys over at GAP before you let this sway you. I think that the new version of the Templar (Gen2 i think) has some changes to the bolt handle.

The Templar is a great action and dont want to turn anyone off of it. Espically if the issue has been addressed.

Don't worry brother, I've got your six. If the USO doesn't fit I've got a 308 that shoots pretty well I'd swap you for the GAP - I know SN3's fit on my 308

Yeah, nice to know you're there for me.

Had the same problem with a custom build on an m700. Problem is, I didn't ask for a custom handle on my build but got it as a free upgrade I guess. As you can see, the m700 handle was not an issue.

This is an SN-3 T-PAL

Re: USO Meets Templar Issue

The USO med rings came today. Still in the process of mounting the rings and optic. I did a quick mount to see if the bolt can be cycled now..... Good to go.

The USO med rings leave just enough room for the bolt to slide by. Its like a cunt hair. A red cunt hair ad they are slightly thinner then the others.

Thanks again to all the folks at USO for the great help.
