Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone could give me a nice light load in either Varget, or IMR 4064, with 150 Gr. FMJ Hornady bullets that will cycle the Springfield M-1A reliably without undo wear on the action. I'm not looking for a Camp Perry load, just a nice light load for the gun for ringing steel gongs at 100 yards. I'm mainly looking for reliability without beating up the action. Thanks in advance, Bill T.

Hi Varget is actualy a bit slow for a light load and a 150gr projectile try it but you might have issues with reliable cycling. IMR 4064 would be a bit better but also try H4895 it is closer to the actual powder loaded in military 7.62 ammo. but for a reduced load that should still cycle the action try benchmark. use the starting loads in your manual and you should be good to go. with H4895 it is safe to reduce the loads to 60% of the standard load it is made here in Australia and called AR2206H and ADI reccomend it for most rifle loads where reduced loads are to be used so with it it will be safe if you start with the starting load in your manual and then drop it a grain at a time until you stop having reliable ejection and function then go back to the ladst load that worked reliably and you will be good to go and safe.
