My FIL sent me an E-mail asking me if I knew what would be up with this. He said his VVn150 is giving off a very strong chlorine smell. Powder was made in the 1994 timeframe. Any thoughts other than its prolly no good anymore?

Usually the powders I have smelled that were going bad smelled like rotten buttermilk.

Any smell other than ordinary and I put it on the yard.

I know my VV N340 gave off a slightly different smell than other powders....could almost be considered chlorine like. These were new containers and both my buddy and I noticed it the first time filling the powder hopper.

Not sure with your FIL and how our noses are "calibrated" it may be chlorine to me and "unripe plums with a hint of black pepper and a nuance of tannin" to another, lol. I will say VV smelled distinctly different than RE-7, Varget, 231, etc.

Bottom line with reloading...if in doubt, dump it out. A pound or five of lost power is probably a lot less than even a minor incident shooting.
