Didn't see this topic here in the pit yet, but sadly several small rural towns were literally swept into the ocean by a Typhoon Halong 5 days ago. Alaska national guard has taking control - some towns won't see energy or supplies for months and mass evacuations already evacuated hundreds.

I believe Dutch Harbor is north and east? This was Western Alaska - those towns with limited access.

Relatively speaking, yes Dutch Harbor is farther north and east. St. Paul is a bit farther west, though but more north. I'm gathering we are talking about the islands in the far western Aleutian Chain, then.

Edited: Nope! It wasn't even in the Aleutians. Kotzbue and Kipnuk, all on the western mainland coast. Nowhere near the Aleutian Chain.

Was Hooper Bay on the hit list? I used to know a family that lived there. That town is about as remote as you can get. I once sent two flat rate boxes of Mardi Gras beads to my friend’s wife, who was a school teacher there, to pass out to all the kids at school.
