Hi everyone, been lurking here for a while and just got my Savage MKII TR in today so i though id start posting.

I picked up the rifle from the shop today and couldn't be happier with the look and feel of the gun. Threw on a Tasco 3-9x50 scope, harris bi-pod, and a Tac-ops cheek pack is in the mail. I will probably get time to take it out this weekend and was wondering if there is anything I should do before I fire it? I'm going to run a brush and some patches through the barrel until they come out clean. Anything else?

Thanks, Rob.

Re: Wait! Before you shoot...

Triple check to make sure you get all of the gunk out of the barrel, make sure all the screws to action, bases and rings are all appropriatley tightened and hit the range. Get yourself comfy and make sure your not straining to obtain a proper scope picture, be smooth with your trigger press and start putting rounds downrange. Enjoy!!

Re: Wait! Before you shoot...

you can lube it a bit, but i think it just takes some working in. mine was like that. it wasn't very smooth from the factory like lets say a CZ, but it will get better. just get a bunch of ammo and shoot it. mine seems to be able to shoot any kind of ammo well.

Re: Wait! Before you shoot...

Congrats! I have one and like it. Bolt was stiff at first and with use it will get smoother. As mentioned above, start putting some ammo through it and once it settles in see what the rifle likes.

Mine seems to really like the sub-sonic rounds and it is really fun to shoot with these type rounds. So far it likes the Wolf Match Target the best. Good Shootin'... JaxOps

On any new gun, bolt or auto I run them pretty wet at the onset, I want any metal surfaces to mate nicely with no galling. I usually run them with mobil 1 synthetic and work the action quite a bit. Dont get to carried away and make sure you keep your chamber dry.

Re: Wait! Before you shoot...

Took the TR to the range today and after sighting it in i shot my first 5 shot group. This was from 60' standing, using a bipod and no rear bag. Came from the factory with a nice and light and extremely crisp and clean trigger pull. Have to say i am very happy with it, will be burning through a lot of ammo next week!

Re: Wait! Before you shoot...

these rifles are great shooters! Ive got one in .17 hmr and it's sub moa alll day long. I took my girlfriend out to shoot it and she was ringing 12x12 steel at 200 yards and loved it. Just for my .02 cents though I never use brushes on my rimfires, just patches and a good bore cleaner. Enjoy your new gun!
