Local Wal Mart is closing out old inventory, I know these are cheap rifles but Savage AXIS for $124 (.243) Rem 770 for $124 (.243) with a cheap scope, Lupold Rifleman scopes for $139 3X9 and $169 4X12, I know it's Wal Mart and not high end but good deal for someone that needs a cheap rifle. May want to check your Wal Mart. These rifles are at the Hermiston Oregon Wal Mart if yoou are in the area

The Axis is not a bad rifle, I own an Axis II 30-06, and I like it. The barrels interchange with the other Savage models, which means your Axis II can be rebarreled to any of the short action chamberings with a .473" diameter bolt face.

Do it.

Better stocks. Mine is the classic rifle stock; utterly transforms the rifle. Better scope. Better Base.

The Savage economy rifle builds used to based off the Stevens 200 model, a pre-Accutrigger Savage action. When the Axis came out the Stevens went away.

I gave the Axis a try when the Axis version II came out. The stock was awkward, and the trigger was not great either. The Axis II gave a version of the Accu-Trigger, so I bought it in 30-06.

It's a good enough action, and saves some weight over the Savage standard models.

I had given my Win 70 Featherweight to my SIL as a 'before I die' pass me down, and needed an everyday replacement. It's not a Win 70 Featherweight. Nothing else is. But the Axis II is still a good hunting rifle, and I love mine with the Boyd's stock. It's a nice walkabout hunter's rifle.

Savage is now playing with the Axis II action in a better context. Axis II Precision. I'm coveting one myself.

I already picked up a Rem 700 .223, just letting people know that their Wal Mart may have the same deals, they also has 2 AXIS with wood stocks for $189, they guy at the counter said this is something they do every couple of years and they are dumping any rifle in .223.

I stopped at the local Walmart. No R700’s. Plenty of well priced Savage firearms.

My Walmart doesn’t clearance price guns anymore. I may road trip tomorrow to one 40 miles from me, they tend to be aggressive on sales.

So I was at Walmart, just being poor and I happens to come across a $54 Rem 770. I have never even looked at them before and don’t lie, you haven’t either. Well I figured worst case it doesn’t shoot and I’ve wasted more than $54 before.

Took it out to the range today and let me say this, it’s fit and finish is on par w the $54 asking price. It had that awesome Remington surface rust, trigger feels the safety is still on. It doesn’t give me any reason to believe it will be my go to rifle for anything more than a loaner, beater, truck gun. Don’t get me started on the scope it came with or those rings.

But it was able to do this on the first group. Yeah 3 rounds....cause I’m a poor. 😂🤣 also I had not adjusted so it was literally the first 3 shots on paper.

Is it a factory freak? May be.

Did I get lucky w that group? Maybe.

I’m not saying it’s going to win any awards but I’ll say this, I wouldn’t put my cellphone down range and let me shoot at it if I were you.

Maybe one day I’ll have a son n law and I’ll gift it to him? Until then I’ll keep fooling around w it and disrespecting it.

I’ll call her.....the Slam Pig.

So @DevilDocAZ , what I’m seeing is that you picked up a new rifle for about the price of 50 rounds of ammo (give or take in today’s market), and that rifle’s first group is sub MOA.

Good deal! Except for having to set foot in Walmart, it sounds like you won all around with the perfect truck gun. 😂

That’s how I’m going to look at it till the pressed on barrel falls off. 😂🤣

Great find!

I got lucky at one of the J-action-ville Walmarts back in 2018 and scored a 200th anniversary Remington ADL in .243 for $349. I usually look right past the gun counter when I'm in one.

Putting in my earplugs now in preparation for the incessant mall ninja screaming.

In my opinion, with some good load dev and proper fundamentals it's hard to find a bolt rifle you couldn't at the very least put food on the table with at any price point. Probably more of a gamble with QC and the action function than accuracy.

while I will admit a good deal is a good deal , that said I cannot spend my money at Walmart for anything after finding out they are financially supporting the blm and antifa and they are donating the money to elect pro socialism/democrat candidates across the country yea you seem to have gotten a nice deal of guns which I do love but the money you spent at that store is helping to burn american cities as well as putting demicrats into political offices and they want to take your gun rights away from you the citizens . You got to do what ever you got to do , but our actions have consequences .
