Rifle Scopes Warranty service?

New leupold VX6 7-42 56mm side focus knob making clucking noise when turned. Leupold got scope on 8-21-14 I called today and found out they are closed till 9-3-14 for Labor Day. When I called last week I was told 3 days to get form receiving to a repair bench. Up to a week before the repair tech takes a look at it. Now I find out they have 4 days off for Labor day. Once the repair tech looks at it big question mark on parts to fix it.
Might help people answer your question if you included the type of scope and other info pertaining to the matter (company, model, what was wrong, etc)

Your original Post was "Is a month a long time for warranty service on a scope"?

Leupold has had your scope for exactly 7 days, of which 2 days is over a weekend. And you have already called them twice. Exactly what kind of service did you expect, overnight repair??? They already told you a minimum of 10 days, and that's in business days not dog days...Show a modicum of patience please.

Had a problem with my Nightforce ATACR and sent it in 3 weeks ago and got it back today. It was on the truck longer going to and from than they had it to repair. It is in the company you deal with. Us Optics and Nightfroce will both take good care of their customers. I sent a Leupold back for repair ,once, and I had to wait awhile to get it back. It took 4 months for them to repair a loose front lens. I don't have the scope any more. Not to say they are not good scope they are very good. But the customer service and the people I spoke with maid you think they were better than you.

At this time all I know is that UPS delivered my scope to Leupold on the 8-21-14 0948 hrs and somebody signed for it. When I called then first I ask for a RMA #, I was told they do not use them just put ATTN: Product Services. So once it gets there they have to input all the info I put in the box. If they used RMA# all they have to do is verify the info and with one key stroke I get an automatic e-mail from Leupold that says they have my scope. The feeling I get form Leupold is that do not care about the customer, just send in your scope in and we will get to when we can. Then with the ten business days and their long Labor Day vacation I should call on the 11/12 of SEP three weeks after UPS delivered it. All I know for sure is UPS delivered my scope to the black hole called Leupold.

One month would be well within normal range for most companies. Vortex might be faster, but see the first comment about them.

Really lots of these warranty threads lately. Sometimes stuff breaks. Any brand or price of stuff. Nicer brands at higher prices may, or may not, break less. Big thing is whether they fix it when you ship it in. Also, whether your budget allows for Hensoldt or Barska, anyone with only one single scope may find themselves scope-less at an unfortunate time. I'm not suggesting someone buy two S&B's for one rifle, but that if you have say six nice rifles, you might have six nice scopes and a spare SWFA SS or something else that is moderately priced but high enough quality to be useful. Or just take a chill pill when only five of those rifles are ready to use because one has a scope in for service. I'm saying this as if scopes failed regularly, which quality scopes do not.

I got my Leupold back today way ahead of what I thought it would be just one problem They did not fix it just moved the clucking noise. Before it was in middle of turning the focus knob now it make the noise at the ends.

Cool. Only time I sent a Leupold in for service, they fixed the first problem (dust on the glass reticle) and added a big ol shiny dent/chip in the ocular for my trouble. I guess it still improved the overall functionality, but I wasn't thrilled.

I sent my scope back to Leupold and the said they could fix replace it with a new one or refund. I was going to go with the refund but the Nightforce Comp with the FCR-1 retical is on back order. I got the new POS LEUPOLD today and it is worse than my first one not only is it making clucking noise and fell parts moving it fells like they are binding too. Going for the refund

If I read it right it is the focus knob that is 'clucking', not the turret.
Was the scope able to adjust out parallax?

And to answer your original question, no I do not think a month is too long for warranty service.

A month is not too long especially for this time of year. Lots of hunting scopes to be repaired that were forgotten about during the off season. 4-6 weeks is the norm right now. Every company is different but that's about where we are right now.

What exactly is a "clucking" noise? Are you saying your turrets sound like a chicken?
Well, I was thinking the same thing but the guy is having enough trouble with the glass in the first place. Over the years I've had amazing success with "Luppy" but don't have any newer products. Sorry to hear about your recent experiences. 30 days door to door for warranty service is "OK."

Thank you all for your comments. I had high hopes for this scope and it is a Epic fail for Leupold from my point of view. I guess my biggest complaint is the two weeks my scope sat in receiving the first time. In Leupold defence they did have a 6 day Labor Day break., but my scope still sat for a week before somebody look at it.

I had a Mark 4 that I sent in 3 times for a canted reticle and wouldn't hold zero and they still couldn't get it 100% right. Leupold are old and fat but I imagine over time they will start to feel the sting of poor QC and CS. There are many more contenders on the scene now and making names for themselves with better products and service.

Maybe I'm weird but I can actually excuse a couple weeks of time in the shop for service. What I can't excuse is sending back a scope that isn't 100% fixed. I also can't excuse their corporate policy on canted reticles. My view is colored by (1) having shipped in a Mark 4 for one problem a while back, and getting it back with that problem fixed, but the scope cosmetically damaged in an obvious and fixable way (the scope was in as-new condition when sent in); and (2) having bought a new VX-R about 2 years ago and finding it to have a ridiculously misshapen - not canted, but blob-shaped on one side - reticle that no QC could possibly have missed. I've owned five Leupolds and two had QC problems. I don't like that ratio.
