I took a lunch break today in the grass to enjoy the sun and crisp air after last night's storms.
High above my cottage, there was a pair of Bald Eagles circling effortlessly in the blue skies. Little, black rectangles with a white spot in the front and rear. Barely visible at about 2000 feet. I could not help myself watching this and thought: They started the day on the poplar tree next to my cottage and now they circle above everything else like they belong there. This is the bird we chose as our national symbol. Whoever made this choice, made a good one.
Right now nearly everyone is grounded. The whole world is going to be smacked economically once we get back to business. There is a rough road lying ahead for everyone on this planet.
But let's not forget that we are blessed with the gift of land ranging from the arctic to the tropics. We can grow any food we need or want. We have all the oil and resources for our industries right under our soil. We are protected on two sides by the shining seas and have two peaceful neighbors on the other borders. We have the best, brightest, and toughest people on this planet even with all the traitors and moochers among us. We are the People of the USA, people who dream big and know how to build tall, fast, and well.
The vision of our Founders that all men are created equal and free, from which they derive inherent and unalienable rights like the preservation of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, has created a nation of unprecedented success and wealth on this planet, even with all the imperfections in our execution of this vision. Where and how we live and what we do here is not by accident or edict but by desire and choice.
Once we leave the perch and take to the skies again, we know how to take advantage of the slightest updrafts to lift our wings and we will fly high again, higher than ever before.
(Credits: The original idea of us being in an enviable position despite the hardship ahead came to me when the Covid fallout became real. Part of the wording was inspired by Jamie Dimon's letter to the shareholders of Morgan Chase. The Eagles encouraged me to pull this all together.)
