I am very pleased with the look, feel and the build quality of the Howa 1500 short action caliber 223 Rem that is built for Weatherby. They call it Vanguard Modular Chassis. The 223 Rem comes in two flavors. A 20 inch threaded barrel version and a 22 inch barrel with a recessed crown. That's the one I ordered. I just inspected and handled it today but, because the chicken shits that run CA have imposed a 10 waiting period ( it used to be 21 days years ago) , I will not be able to mount my scope and take it to the High Desert Gun club for a day of shooting 5 inch steel hangers in the wind. Although I have advertised on Craigslist for a spotter, no one has answered my ad. So, I will be mounting an Athlon BTR 6x24x50 on the Weatherby so that I can spot my own bullets as they impact those little steel plates. I put a lot of money into this project and I am hopeful that I can actually see the con trail or light refracted through different air densities because of the disturbance made by those tiny little fucking bullets as they head for steel. Then with 24 power at ranges under 600 yds I hope to see those little fuckers vaporize on impact with the cold hard steel.

I just now picked up the Weatherby from my FFL . I was lucky to have ordered the perfect set of Talley mounts/rings combo to properly install the Athlon 6x24x50 scope. It was surprising easy to bore sight and should hit paper a couple inches low and to the right . The trigger was easy to adjust. I turned the screw counter clock wise until it fell out then turned it back in a few turns and set the lock nut. I do not know the poundage but it does not feel as light as my Savage 243 varmint with accu-trigger. I will take it to the indoor range tomorrow which is only 13 miles round trip from the house. The outdoor range is 104 miles round trip. It is a little heavier than I thought and the scope is no light weight.
