All my stuff showed up last week. Spent some time over the weekend on this bugger. Finished her up yesterday.

This is an old build that's taken way too long to complete. Were 99.9% there now. Just some little things to tend to and a trip to the range.

308 Medium Tac built on a F/N Special Police receiver.

    Enjoy.

Thanks guys. This is the first stock I ever painted for a cst. Not too chabby me thinks.

Were laying up two more as we speak.

I don't get too carried away with fancy names like "Excaliber" or "vindicator."

    Simple folks at this place.

That being said we'll stick with "Standard Woodland" for a name.

    Fair enough?

Will, we talked a bit about the paint for your stock. It's in the rack right now. My understanding was a woodland pattern as well. If your ok with this style, we'll get to squirtin on it today.

Also, there's a little issue with the base you sent us. The holes don't line up with the action. If we chopped the lug off, it'd be fine. Were NOT going to do that. My plan is to toss it in the mill and lengthen the slots a touch more. No biggy, just wanted to let you know.

Ok, back to work! We got some stuff to shoot today too, so it's a busy week for us.

Thanks again guys. Soon as I get more stencils machined up, we'll be offering additional schemes as well. I made my own stencils for this job too.

    Oky doke! No problem.

We also have a range report!

Tony, were in good shape boss. She's a hammer. I put quite a few through it and it just works works works.

Very fluid/smooth action. We need more guns like this.

Chad Dixon, You Sir DO GREAT WORK!!! Some day I would love to send you a rifle. I love the fact that you post pictures of some of your builds. Evey time I see a post with your name on it I check it out. I either learn something new, or just appreciate your work that much more. Thanks again for posting.

P.S. If you need some one to clean up your shop or even make sandwiches for I got you covered!

LOL, looks good! Thanks for the info! I really like that super heavy barrel look/feel.

    Re: Were PaInTiN!!

We shot this again this morning with better optics and (my fault on this one) TIGHT guard screws. (oops)

Even with loose ones, it wasn't "that" bad.

    Loose (yesterday):

The orphan was the first shot from a squeaky clean bore.

    Anthony,

We had a couple little nicks to touch up with the paint brush. Fixed those and were letting it dry up real nice.

Shipping Monday hell or high water.

    Stencils are made in house.

    Here's what I did/do:

I went on a Google hunt for pics of camo patterns that I like. Copied/saved the images.

Import the image into the software. Scale it to the size I want. Convert the image to a freeform parametric spline. Then took .06" steel sheet and laminated it to a piece of Hickory that'd been surfaced in the mill.

Once that's done it's a simple tool path. A #1 carbide centerdrill set at -.01" deep machines the shape. From here you lay on a piece of masking tape, trace the pattern with a ballpoint pen, drag an Xacto over the line, peel and stick.

Making the "plates" is a bit of work. Cutting the patterns just sucks and I'm working on a solution for that. It may involve using my plates as masters and having decals cut by a shop, or biting the bullet and buying a commercial cutter so that we can make our own in house. I'm leaning towards that as I've become rather stubborn about keeping everything under my roof.

I'm also considering ripping my old laptop apart, stealing the DVD burner laser from it, and making a laser cutter that I can stick into a collet and run in my mill. Lay a sheet of vinyl on the table supported by a strip of MDF and let it rip.

That's a bit exotic I realize but what the hell? Everything we do in here is a bit "out there" by most standards.

    Have to see. . .

I just know the masking tape trick sucks. Takes way way way too long.

    Re: Were PaInTiN!!

I went to walmart and bought a sticker maker for about 15 bucks and then I print the pattern and cut it out with scissor. Use regular papper and then run it through the sticker machine. It works great for diggital patterns. When i figure out how to post picks ill send some your way.

My brother in law used to run a company in Thailand that sells/services those vinyl cutting machines. Let me see what he can come up with. I saw one sitting at his house last time I was there.

    Re: Were PaInTiN!!

Nice job. I've been contemplating a template type paint job. Got a pretty good grasp on duracoat for single and double colors, but not a template setup yet. Mostly too scared to try it.

My biggest concern is how much build up, in the feel of the layers of paint, do a person experience? Is is noticable to the naked eye when you look at it?
    Thanks, Jason
