Re: What do you do for a living?

Full time student, with degree in mechanical engineering and poli-sci. Currently working on the end of my pre-law/prep classes and will be heading to law school.

2nd job= dad of 5 month old

Re: What do you do for a living?

I am a former scuba diving instructor turned home improvement contractor. I can't say that now would be the best time to get into the building trade, seeing as how everybody is broke and most peoples' houses aren't worth what they owe on them. I've been lucky to keep 3-6 months worth of work lined up ahead of time, and I do a lot of different things (taping, painting, windows/doors, plumbing & light electrical, kitchen/bath remodels, trim work,etc...) It took me a while to learn all that stuff, but it helps me keep busy. I work for myself so if I want a new "toy", I can usually put in some weekend time and make the extra cash. The down side is no benefits, at the end of the day, I still have work to do, and if I run out of work, I can't collect unemployment.
I guess you have to take the good with the bad.

Re: What do you do for a living?

I fix airplanes, pays good now but after 23 years nights weekends and holidays are still a problem. I suggest finding something that makes you happy, because if your happy you'll be a good are at your job and the money will come, if your chasing the $$$ your gonna be unhappy and suck at everything.

Re: What do you do for a living?

I polish once fired brass for 427Cobra and Capt Kick Ass. These guys got real jobs and shoot 10,000 rounds a month so they keep me busy. at $1 per round im doing pretty good too. Like 427Cobra said, find something you like and do it well, the money will come.

Re: What do you do for a living?

Medically retired I/T professional, maintaining a household and caring for my semi-handicapped Wife, subsisting on SSD and a partial VA disability. My activities center around home and family with a radius that is limited by the amount of time I will allow myself to be away from my Wife. Essentially, if it's more than two hours away, I ain't goin'.

Life is frugal, and shooting is my main recreational expenditure, along with scratch built Rubber Powered Free Flight Scale Models, and a DVD collection.

The models are mainly balsa sticks and tissue paper, and my primary basic materials are balsa wood, tissue and bond paper, piano wire, and glue. The planes cost a buck or two apiece to build, but are highly labor intensive; which is sorta the point when one has a lot more time on their hands than money.

The DVD's are scooped out of bargain bins, depreciated over time.

I'm never bored. My life is way good enough. A pair of young, semi-psychotic, nearly unbearably loyal cats completes the ensemble.

Re: What do you do for a living?

I manage brass polishing companies that specialize in employing mentally challenged adults. I find it rewarding and highly lucrative since most think getting paid $0.01 a pound is actually $1.00 a pound. The yearly bonus I give them consists of a pat on the head which really seems to please them. I have had a 0% turn over rate since inception.

I'm mostly retired, but it's not a field that one really moves into.

When I'm not being retired, I annoy people trying to incorrectly shoot various kinds of firearms. Lots of fun, nice outdoor work, when it's not 43 degrees and raining, or 100 degrees and not raining.

Re: What do you do for a living?

Re: What do you do for a living?

Remotely Operated Vehicle System Supervisor. Unmanned Sub. Underwater robot. Im the guy that gets to play around with the deepwater subsea equipment the Boudreaux cleans up after. $10M video game is what it boils down to. Electronics intensive but not as difficult as it seems. I like it....It gets me away from the ol lady but the downside is i have to live with a bunch of guys for 28 days straight. Its bought me a Windrunner and made me sell it too. The oilfield gets slow too....

PC Based Software Development used on filling equipment in the liquid packaging industry. If you ever bought a bucket of paint, there's a good chance it was filled on our equipment. At one time we did all the Mott's Apple Juice bottles too.

Software development is a pretty rewarding field.

Good luck with that, State just changed our pension rules, no more 20 for our new guys. Always have an alternate plan.

As for me, I work hard filling in the cracks in dams on the river of evolution.
