PRS Talk What Rifle? Getting back into competitive shooting

I quit all competitive shooting (3-gun, USPSA, F-class, and 2-gun) back in Dec. 2013. I'm ready to jump back in and itching to buy a rifle and glass. That being said, holy crap! There are so many more options for every aspect of precision rifle!

If you were starting over, from scratch, and had $5k to spend on a rifle and scope, what would you buy?

I'm leaning more towards 6.5 and 6mm Creedmoor.

I'd prefer decent match factory loads while I build out my reloading kit and eventually match load.

I've been spending quite a bit of time on their site. LOL! Having trouble finding that production rifle on their site.

It's brand new, just released before Shot, may not be on their website. I would call or email GAP, request one in 6CM (only offered in two calibers) and get in line ahead of all the SHOT orders if I were you.

Scope can be done EASILY for less than 2k. You may find you want to change scopes later so dont over doit right off the bat.

Plenty of QUALITY rifles in the PX. You can get a great rifle and upgrade or change as needed.

Remember barrels are disposable items.so get something with a good action, trigger, stock or chassis and it wont matter.

For what you can get barely used ones for you could almost part them out in some cases

Another vote for this. I would lean towards 6GT over 6CM.

Put a quality scope on it, with some ARC M10 rings and an Atlas bipod, and you have an awesome setup for around ~$5K.

Only downside with 6gt is I think OP needs factory ammo to start. Unless Hornady makes a big announcement this week at SHOT 6CM will have more factory support for a while.

I’d buy the gap production rifle and either a used kahles or razor gen 2. Possibly a used schmidt.

Those Gen 2 razors are heavy but I guess a match shooter wouldn’t mind.

I also think a used Khales would be a great way to go. They are a great scope at a great value - especially used.
