Suppressors WHAT??!! - S&W BG380 has a 0.5 lb trigger??!!

Re: WHAT??!! - S&W BG380 has a 0.5 lb trigger??!!

He has absolutely ZERO idea what the hell he is talking about OR he merely goofed and meant to say 8.5lb, 9.5lb, 10.5lb or something in that range! The trigger on the Bodyguard .380 is a VERY long, DAO trigger that is in no way, shape or form capable of a 0.5lb pull. It is one of the WORST triggers I have seen come out of the folks at S&W and it is certainly NOT what I would call one of S&W's greater achievements in terms of quality BUGs.

ORD, I certainly do not disagree that the trigger on the BG380 has an atrocious trigger. If it were at least smoother would be helpful.

I am *NOT* wanting to get in a pissing match, so please dont' take me as challenging you here. The latter part of your quote above, what about the quality to you think is lacking? Having one, and putting 300+ trouble-free rounds through it, having carried it as a BUG on-duty and as a CCW off-duty, I've been quite pleased with it. I have not torture tested it, so I don't have that type of insight.

Just curious is all. If there is some QC issues with it, I'd like to know to be sure.

Thanks much!

No pi$$ing match whatsoever.

I should have better qualified my remarks about the .380 Bodyguard as I did not mean to suggest that it was a poor pistol in total. I was disappointed with the trigger so much that it overshadowed the rest of the pistol for me personally, but that is where my issues with the pistols end. Other than the garbage trigger, the pistols seems to be of reasonable quality in terms of fit/finish/operation. I put 50 trouble-free rounds through it (which is hardly a reasonable "test" of reliability), but its owner has roughly 500 through it now without issue except for the problem I describe below. HOWEVER, when compared to other micro/compact BUGs, this one has by far some of the best ergos, but the single worst trigger pull/feel around..

Another issue to mention (but somewhat hearsay since I was not there and did not witness the problems):

The particular one I shot belongs to a good friend and colleague of mine that I regularly shoot with. Shortly after he received it, on approx. his 20th round through the pistol, it fired and the trigger did not reset. He cleared the gun, examined it briefly to look for any obvious problems, reinserted the mag, racked the slide and the trigger was not set yet again. So back to S&W for repairs it went, they repaired it in a few weeks and sent it back to him. I first viewed and shot the pistol AFTER it returned from S&W, and I have to say that it seems to function fine now with an additional almost 500 rounds down the tube since he got it back.

Things happen...parts break...I don't fault S&W for that. They promptly dealt with the problem, fixed it without charge (of course) and had it back in my friend's hands in short order where it has performed flawlessly since. Again, I don't consider that a mark against the pistol, but it was an issue that had to be fixed.

Thanks for the report ORD!! WOW, 20 rounds and ka-boom, that royally SUCKS!!! With a trigger as heavy as it is, I almost wonder if it was an evil joke to even put the external safety on!?!?!

Between the 10-ton, errr 10-pound trigger and that safety which is soooooooooooooo user friendly under stress (sarcasm!) it'd be a miracle to use it in the same decade as the incident in which it was needed!

Did S&W ever tell him what was found to be wrong? I'd be curious if it was a factory issue, or if it was a part rattled loose by shooting and/or prying curiosity. I mean truly, who doesn't take their gun apart and kinda probe around to see how it works?? ( . . . .silence. . . . . . crickets . . . . ) I thought so!

hehe.

I had a Taurus 738TCP before the BG380. The trigger on the Taurus was very very smooth, almost Sig DAK smooth. That gun actually didn't give me troubles either. I maybe had 300 or so through it. I just liked the S&W ergos better.

regards!

He was not told what the specific problem was. All he could get out of S&W (he had to call to inquire what was done because it arrived via FedEx back to him without any explanation), was that they "completely replaced the trigger and trigger return spring." That was all the info he could get and I won't speculate as to what is going on behind the scenes, but it sounds to me like it was more than just a simple issue of a part rattling lose.

Also, to be fair...it wasn't a "KA-BOOM" in any sense of the word, but instead it was a "KA-CLICK." The gun was rendered useless by the trigger not resetting and no matter what he did, he could not get a round to fire after the problem occurred because the trigger was basically dead.

Re: WHAT??!! - S&W BG380 has a 0.5 lb trigger??!!

I was as excited about the BG 380 as a fat kid is about cake.....That is until I shot my buddy's. That was absolutely the worst trigger I have ever felt! I love everything else about the pistol but that trigger just killed it! I went with the Kahr P380 instead. It was quite a bit more expensive but at least the trigger doesn't make me wanna shoot myself with the pistol! LOL

Re: WHAT??!! - S&W BG380 has a 0.5 lb trigger??!!

Played with the Ruger and the S&W next to the Kahr.

I pick up my Kahr p380 next Sat. You would not believe the added cost of the loaded chamber indicator for the California version:0 oh well speedo carry here I come.
