Hi
I am looking into getting a scope base for my savage 10fp. I need a 1 piece base. It is a pre 2003 with out the accutrigger. Has the flat rear. I just came acrossed the badger ord. might go that way but thought i would ask for ideas on here before. I would like steel but alluminum is fine, I like the egw hd but they dont offer a flat rear base. I will be using badger M40a3 rings as i already have a pair. Also my budget is in the 100.00 range but i am flexible if the quality is there (badger it is somthing like 139.00)
Any Ideas
thanks

egw did make one for the older receivers as well. you night call or email them directly. its a good base for the money. i dont think anyone makes a bad base.

When you first mount the EGW base...sometimes they are not completely flat, front and back, to the action. I suspect a little warping in the anodizing process. Screw one end down and check for a gap on the other end, then loosen it and tighten the other and recheck. There was enough space that I had to use some brass shim stock and bedding material to fill the space so that it lay flat on the mounting areas without stress.

Ok i just ordererd one from Optics planet, My rifle is a .223 so i got the short action base. There is also a medium action base, That is for a .308 correct. Ill check to see if it is flat, I had one on a short action rem 700 a while back and noticed that it was not 100% flat either.
Thanks

Short action is for the .308 as well, among other calibers. Did you make sure you got a flat or round action to match your Savage?

Also, for the screws, the SHORT ones BOTH go in the holes closest to the barrel. The long ones both go in the two holes closest to the butt. I don't think the base comes with this info. It would have been nice to know my first time, as I used the screws in the wrong spots and got the bolt stuck.

And I agree with the "warped" comment. I suggest tightening the back two (long) screws partially, and then tightening the front two (short) screws. Then snug everything down. I'd also recommend using the blue loctite.

the only thing i did not like was that the EGW stuck out over the nut. if you were to bed it, it would have to come off to get the barrel off. nothing major i know, but the ferrel stops at the receiver
