What should I do?

So I have my first rifle, a Remington 700 SPS-V with a Millet LRS that I've been shooting a lot lately. I go shooting usually with my dad who is a good shooter so with his assistance I have some pretty far steel target hits. My grouping is pretty good at 300 yards but I haven't really tried it much past that. I'm beginning to reload and I know I will be shooting quite a bit so I want to get another rifle. My top choice is a Remington 700P in .300WM. I really like it and I hear great things about it. I like the .308 a lot and the .300WM gives me more potential for even further distance when my skills develop to that. Also stopping power is always a factor in my decision. I'm thinking it's a good choice, especially since I will be reloading. The last few days though I've considered getting another .308, probably an SPS Tactical or LTR instead. The price's are lower on those 2 then the 700P in .300WM and then I only have to reload 1 type of ammo. But the more weigh my options I still think the .300WM is the better option. Do you guys agree?

I made a post just a few days ago to make sure that the .300WM is a great option for what I want: distance past 1200 yards and good stopping power without being to expensive to shoot. So unless I was to buy another .308 instead, I'm pretty set on a .300WM. Figured I'd clear that up because I know some prefer 7mm's. Thanks.

Re: What should I do?

The .308 can be taken to 1000+ yards. Are you looking for a long range hunting rifle? Not sure what you mean "Stopping Power".

7mm 7wsm 300wim 300wsm 300rum 338 lapua can go 1500+ with batting and eye, but with more powder (i.e. recoil).

Personally is say save your money up grade your glass, stock, trigger ect.. Then buy another rifle when you’re ready.

I should have said I already have upgraded my stock and trigger. Plus I need another rifle because I'm going to be shooting a lot and my wife will be shooting with me. I'm aware of the recoil, I've shot the .300WM quite a bit before, but thanks for the heads up there. Some people really don't like it because of that. When I say stopping power I'm not talking about hunting, just a SHTF situation. 99.9% chance it would never happen, but I really like that piece of mind.

Ok now I'm really confused. Why haven't you bought that 300wsm yet!

You already have a .308 get the 300wsm. It sound like you want the 300wsm and if you buy another .308 you will still want the 300wsm.

Sorry to confuse you lol. I guess since I'm reloading there's no reason not to by the .300 Win Mag. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better argument for another .308. The only other thing I could really do to my .308 would be a custom barrel, but I'll wait till I burn out my barrel before I don that. I think I'll order the .300 tommorow.
