So im trying to build a decent "tacticool" long range gun, but i cant decide on what to get. I want a 308, heavy barrel (20-26 inch), and bolt action, preferably with a detachable mag. I was thinking about the 700 Varmit, and then putting an aftermarket stock on it, but it doesnt have a detachable mag. Im also looking to stay under 1K for the rifle itself. Ive already got the glass for it, so thats not open for discussion. Any ideas?

I got a savage 10 fcp for sale. 308 24 in barrel tack driver detachable mag already and hs precision stock. Don't wanna sound like a salesman but its an awesome rifle and very accurate especially for the money. Disappointed I have to sell it but I am building a short barreled rifle for my wife so she can handle it easier.

I went online and looked at that model. Its pretty much what im looking for. I didn't know savage made a rifle like that, except for the BA-110, but that is way over my price range.

Thanks, but im not really interested in buying over the internet.

Just a personal preference. Im going to go look in town later on and see what i can find. Got a local savage dealer here, and make sure i like the rifle.

Over your price range? Mine is up for 850 shipped and only has 50 rounds Down the barrel. I understand not wanting to buy over the internet though. Id prefer to get hands on too. If you check one out new and you like it let me know how much it's going for? Or if you change your mind! Good luck with finding a new rifle!
