... if you insist on dragging your entire culture and lifestyle there with you and then back again? I seriously do not get the Cousins whatsoever in this respect.

Very common practice. I have travelled all over this planet and it is prevalent everywhere. People lose sight of the "immerse yourself in the culture and you will have a better time" concept. They travel to see things and miss out on the big picture

Some people just want a taste of home or familiarity, even on vacation or working in an exotic place. Sometimes, I just want a damn Quarter Pounder or some KFC, especially when I'm in the ME where the food just sucks for the most part, and if there is an Irish Pub you can bet your ass that's where I'll be.

Yeah, a touch I get. I've been in immersion situations, dying for something resembling US comfort food.

But they just want Brighton with better weather. Seriously, it's an enshrined part of their culture.

I've totally ordered McDs or KFC delivery (yeah that's a thing) at 0300hrs when the local food had been wrecking my guts for weeks and I just needed the familiar.

If you look at the history of our beloved cousins, they basically settled a huge chunk of the world by bringing England with them. It was not in their nature to "immerse themselves" in foreign cultures. The made the world England.

I think this this is why I lived the Brits so much in their own country but tended not to when drinking with them in a 3rd country. When abroad a lot of them just bitched non-stop about all the shit that wasn't like England.
More than once I sincerely asked why the fuck any of us would travel to the other side of the world and expect it to be like home?

Dude, there are more Belgian, British, Danish, German, and Swedish boozers on the Levantine coast of Spain than Spanish ones.

Part of that, at least for the Brits, is that unlike our draconian taxes which are inescapable, they can avoid/severely curtail their income tax liability by going expat. I knew a ton of Brit "tax refugees" that had houses in Spain. I'm guessing many of those other countries may have a similar situation

unless you are tasked to go somewhere to kill something I see no reason to leave the USA. As far as Brits go, their pallet cant handle spice any hotter than black ground table pepper. They even fkd up Indian and Thai food so they can eat it, then travel to India or New Jersey and are all shocked when they get real Indian food.

More than a few got flim-flammed trying to acquire Spanish property. Their laws are byzantine, their judiciary more crooked than a dog's hind leg, and most of the lawyers treacherous. I spent time there in the 90s. If their laws were any more favorable concerning my pursuits, I might have considered it for retirement.

Shit, Jerry, did you ever say a bland, soggy mouthful.
