Build a 1-8 twist 6BR and be happy. The 6PPC is best suited for 68 grain bullets in a 1-14 twist barrel. At distance, the BR will whip the PPC.

Check out 6BRX. Based on 6BR, longer in the shoulder, can make do with 6BR dies. More case capacity, equal or better barrel life than .260, won 1000yd at Butner in 2007. 6BR and BRX dominate in our FV200 matches. 105 Bergers run 3000fps, 12-14 reloadings per case, primer pockets appear to be the point of failure.

Good question. Recoil should be tolerable. I have some doubts about throat life as a product of case capacity/overbore considerations; but the .243 has seen some surge in popularity as a LR round. Bit big in the engine room for my tastes.

All other costs being the same or less (same bullets, powder, Lapua brass) the 6 BR has 2-3x's the match barrel life, exceptional accuracy, and huge volumes of information for shooting at targets with it.

Not that the 243 wouldn't do the job it's just that the 243 is a bit overkill for a 0-600y rifle, and the 6 BR is plenty viable at 1000 since it holds several records out there.

I am seriously considering a 6mmBR for my next build. There are kicking some serious butt at local 600 yard F-Class matches. I am talking about 200 with 13-14 X's. This cartridge has my interest.

I remember shooting a 7-08 in Benchrest against a group of 6PPC's. Those things made some nice holes at 100. We didn't shoot past 100 for that benchrest mach that I shot.

Had a 6br built for the Ratwife. She stopped shooting at 600yrds (field target) when she'd emptied a 20rnd box as she said she didn't feel it challenged her enough..... kept hitting everything.

The PPC is the 'thing' to have in the local Benchrest clubs (and nationally too). But it was developed for 100-200 BR. Not that it can't be used at longer ranges, but the capacity isn't that of the 6BR.

PPC is a great cartridge. But if you want to extend your range, then the 6BR or one of the others have mentioned is the way to go.

Years ago I owned a Ruger, factory chambered in 6ppc. Fun gun but it couldn't stay up with custom built 6ppc's. Also, 6ppc requires more work than the 6br. With 6ppc you have to fire form and work 220 Russian brass if you can't get a hold of 6ppc factory brass.

I`ve got a 6BR in the works myself. It`s being built mainly for local 500yd F-Class. Hopefully it`ll be ready in 2 or 3 more weeks. 26" 1:8 Brux Barrel. Looking to shoot the 105 Bergers or 107 SMK`s. Should be a fun & accurate little gun. I can`t wait.

I have a 6BR / Stiller single shot action. I love it. I shoot varmints up to 400 yds. with it. Krieger 1/14 twist bbl - I use 65g Vmaxes/VVN135 powder. If I had to do it over I would get a 1/8 or 1/10 twist-more options. I also use a 6ppc for varminting, with a 58g Vmax. Exceeding accurate & I shoot pdogs up to 200 yds w/ no probs. Also yotes- drops them in their tracks stone cold. If it were me, I'd choose a 6BR 8 twist. Neck on my 6BR is .271. No turning necks using Lapua brass. My .02. Good luck.

I'd like to see 6.5-250 (AKA .260 Bobcat), or maybe a .30RAR (if we ever actually see any) necked to 6.5, sorta like a 6.5-284 Short. My point being, they would work nicely in a switch-barrel with a .473" bolt face. I also think a basic .30RAR might make an OK SR/MR target chambering.

I have a 6br with a Krieger 1:12 twist throated for 80 grain Starke varmint bullets. I put it together for groundhog target shoots out to 600 yards and it does very well. I have also shot a fair amount of hogs at over 500 yds and a few in the 600 yard range. Based on 40, 5 shot groups using N135 and H4895 with 80 grain Starkes and NBT's it has averaged right at .250 off of a 100 yard bench. I have also shot some targets at 300 yards and it averages 1.300 for 5 shots. As good as the rifle is it will not compete with my 6PPC's or 30br out to 200 yds. However,loading for the 6br is a snap. I am still loading the original 30 cases I prepped and have shot them each 14 times. I would not be surprised to get 20-25 loads out of these cases prior to pitching them or annealing them. My experience with barrel burn out has been very close to 4,000 rounds before a barrel is relegated to fire forming duties only. My experience with .243 AI 1:8 twist has been about 1,500 rounds before the throat goes and having it set back and re-chambered. My .243AI shoots 3 shot groups that average in the .3's, out of the 1:8 twist barrel and in the .4's out of the 1:14 twist barrel.

All that stuff before the "Kreiger barrel" are the specs for the custom 6mm BR chamber reamer you'd order from Pacific Tool & Gauge (PTG), which you will order and then upon receipt hand to your smith to chamber your Kreiger barrel with. Maybe your smith already has a similar reamer. No-turn neck means the neck of the chamber is of sufficient diameter that you can take brass out of the box and use it, without neck turning them first (as opposed to a "tight neck" chamber, for which neck turning brass is mandatory to even chamber).
