Just curious when do you guys carry. All the time, just when you think it needed ect.. Me just when I think it necessary. Unfamiliar area ext. But leaning to all the time.

I only do when I go out to school, the range, hunting or fishing (as I've had way to many close calls with other people's dogs). Other then that I usually carry on car trips but otherwise it's rare for me.
I've already had my big adventure with bullets and people and it's more than I wanna deal with again, so I'd rather avoid the situation all together and I find it's pretty easy to keep yourself out of trouble.

this topic is one near and dear to me. i know a few people that carry a gun every where they go and they are the least qualified people to be carrying a gun. When I'm home, from the time I get up in the morning until I go to sleep at night, including while in the house. I don't go to places, other than my kids' schools or amusement parks, that don't allow me to carry. I gladly take my business elsewhere, and I never go to bars anymore.

+1 on the above rant. While IL is still a no-carry state, it has always been of great concern to me when comparing requirements for CCW in some states versus the HUNDREDS of hours a police officer must qualify with a weapon, evaluate stressful situations, interpreting the law and proper application of force and deadly force. Now consider that a staggering amount of officers in this country are deficient in 1 or more of those areas. I don't want to consider how many guys are out there carrying weapons they are not proficient with, for the wrong reasons, and with no idea of what consequences could await them if/when they fuck up.
That said, I carry as logistics and circumstance deem it to be reasonable. I recall speaking with a (former) fellow officer about his vacation plans. He scratched California from his road trip because he "couldn't figure out a viable option for carrying his Glock 27 concealed at the beach." No point in staying alive if you cant live.

my golden rule has always been " if im drinking im not carrying if im not drinking im carying, and i like my guns more than i do my booze" my girlfriend makes fun of me cause the first thing i do when i get home from work is drink a glass of water then put my compact on my hip,i have aways feared that the one day i say to myself meh! i dont feel like carrying is the same day that criminal decides hes not gonna stop being a criminal

I agree with the qualification requirement. If your state is "shall issue" you should have to prove you know how to use your firearm. It would really boost the industry as well. More ranges, more gun sales, more people working as instructors and range masters etc. Best of all, people would start viewing guns as a tool rather than a problem. People would want to TRAIN and that is rare. The only problem with this is the bureaucracy it would create.

All the time and everywhere I can CC legally. I even have a number of notes to CC in a number of churches because of my profession. Not really sure why churches are off limits anyhow.

I can't say I carry a gun wiht me 24/7 but I believe the mind is the best weapon. When in doubt, I'll carry my lil airweight 38+P with me...
I have an escrima stick in each vehicle under the seat, military bases consider it a tire knocker and never had a problem with it during inspections.
+1 on requiring quals, last thing I want is to get shot by someone who's not qualified to be carrying.

I think a qualification requirement would be bull. First what if I think you shouldn't carry and have nothing to back it up with? What if you missed your once a month shooting hour and loose the right to carry? Do you think that this has anything to do with "Rights" I say they have their hands on enough gun laws we don't need anymore. If you give a mouse a cookie comes to mind. Your first hint that you were off base is when you spelled "rites" The other thing is who the hell are you to say one can or cannot protect his life? I could go on and on with this subject but at the end of the day I hope you don't carry becouse you fit the mental bill of not being able to own a gun.

I am fully confident in my training with a handgun that it never ever leaves my hip unless i am sleeping, even then there is a pistol next to the night stand. I dont have kids, so i dont have to worry about little fingers. And i dont drink often, so i dont have to not carry because im going drinking.

Unfortunately, I have to wait until I have been in TX for six months. I am aware that I can carry in my truck when traveling. However, I have been told by LEO that without a CHL I could still be arrested and have to fight it in court.
Some one mentioned LEO training hundreds of hours and I have seen multiple LEOs at the range when I lived in CA; they can't shoot for shit. I was at Burro Canyon at the pistol range when a LEO, wearing a badge on his belt, swept the entire range; I packed up told the RO and left.
I will admit most need to take classes on how to shoot. I was at Garland Public Shooting Range and two gentlemen where next to me shooting; they asked if I was LEO because I shot the center out of they target. They on the other hand had targets that looked like a shot gun pattern. When they ask for info on how to shoot they couldn't wrap their heads around using the front site.

I carry all the time unless I'm asleep and then it and others are not far away. I train monthly with my sidearm and shoot almost weekly. I shoot with some LEO and the ones I shoot with are very capable with there weapons, but I have seen LEO that can't shot for shit also. At one time I couldn't so we all need to know our cans and cannots when behind said weapon.
My dad thoght me a lot about the trouble a knife or gun could get you into when I was young. He went over it many times. He also tought me to be mindful of my surroundings at all times things can come at you from anywhere. He also tought me that a man impared without one weapon can be made to listen even when he dosen't want to. We had a drunk get into the truck on the passager side next to me when I was litte. My dad asked him to get out and he wouldn't. My dad pulled his snubby and ask again with no response for the drunk. So the next thing I know my dad had swung his arm across me and hit the drunk in the face with the butt of the handle. Well this got though to him and he said he wasn't going to ride with someone that would hit him in the face like that and got out of the truck and stumpled off. Scraed the hell out of me as a kid. He carried his little snubby for many years and was a hella shot with it. I asked him once why he carried the snubby. I said you can't hit anyone with it over 25 feet away. He told me a man can't hunt me at 25 feet away and if he moves in and puts his hands on me I'll push it into his guts and unload it.
I carry all the time unless I'm asleep and then it and others are not far away. I train monthly with my sidearm and shoot almost weekly. I shoot with some LEO and the ones I shoot with are very capable with there weapons, but I have seen LEO that can't shot for shit also. At one time I couldn't so we all need to know our cans and cannots when behind said weapon.
My dad thoght me a lot about the trouble a knife or gun could get you into when I was young. He went over it many times. He also tought me to be mindful of my surroundings at all times things can come at you from anywhere. He also tought me that a man impared without one weapon can be made to listen even when he dosen't want to. We had a drunk get into the truck on the passager side next to me when I was litte. My dad asked him to get out and he wouldn't. My dad pulled his snubby and ask again with no response for the drunk. So the next thing I know my dad had swung his arm across me and hit the drunk in the face with the butt of the handle. Well this got though to him and he said he wasn't going to ride with someone that would hit him in the face like that and got out of the truck and stumpled off. Scraed the hell out of me as a kid. He carried his little snubby for many years and was a hella shot with it. I asked him once why he carried the snubby. I said you can't hit anyone with it over 25 feet away. He told me a man can't hunt me at 25 feet away and if he moves in and puts his hands on me I'll push it into his guts and unload it.

I have to disagree here. Sure we all (hopefully) are doing our best to keep our heads on a swivel at all times and not take foolish chances. However, if it were that easy to avoid all potential threats than there would be next to no crime violent crime because it would be too difficult for criminals to find a victim. This is the real world and real crap happens real people everyday in some of the most innocuous places. Have you ever stopped at a red light after dark? Used an ATM? Pissed in a public restroom? Walked in a park? Carried groceries from hyour car to your house with both hands? Eaten at a restaurant? Attended church or class? Opened your door at home in response to a knock - or worse, had someone in your house open the door without checking out the window while you are in the other room? Situations abound in which a predator can believe they have enough advantage to safely strike. Carrying a firearm at all possible times maximizes your chance of having a viable means of ending a violent encounter before it begins, surviving the encounter if engaged, and limiting further loss of life in cases of a mass-murder/suicide shooter scenario.
I personally couldn't care less if you carry or not but it seems that you hold the opinion that any civilian that carries is a safety hazard and if they ever have to use their weapon in defense it was their fault for being in the wrong place to begin with. That just doesn't match up with violent crime data. If you ignore hoods killing hoods and look at law abiding citizens that become victims of violent crimes, they are typically victimized during the course of an otherwise normal day, full of normal, uneventful activities. I for one will not live in fear for my and my family's safety.

The unfortunate reality is that NOT ONE of the emergency situations I have encountered in my decades as a health care provider, EMT, or police officer are never clear and handled "by the book". They are always confusing, unique and require interpretation and improvisation.
What i'm saying is that these fantasies guys have of thwarting the mugger armed with a knife or dropping the would-be terrorist before his shooting spree as he loads up his machinegun in the mall parking lot are about as likely as you winning the lottery.

All within the last 18 months, all in broad daylight, all in the upper middle class parts of town. This isn't south Chicago, this is Knoxville TN. Things aren't always like in the movies with the dark alley way in the wrong part of town, and a dangerous situation can happen at anytime, anywhere, to anyone.
Do you not wear a seat belt because you don't drive dangerously putting yourself into dangerous situations, therefore you'll never get into a traffic accident either? Same concept, and I'm sure you buckle up every time you get behind the wheel. Same reason I carry all the time.
I could just as well stay home where I'm safe and sound. Instead I prefer not to live like a hermit. I want to go get some groceries, take my kids to the mall, and go to church. Both I and my wife carry because we have a brain, live in the real world instead of fantasy land, and we care about our family's safety and security. She's good with her pistol. So am I. I hope nobody ever has to find out just how good we are, but we'll both be ready to demonstrate it if put into that situation, because we will not be the victim. Ever.

Everywhere I can legally. I was very proud of my sister who went from anti-gun to a CCW holder when she made the remark, "Better to have it and not need it than the other way around" when I hesitated carrying my Glock 19 as we were headed out.

I agree with the qualification requirement. If your state is "shall issue" you should have to prove you know how to use your firearm. It would really boost the industry as well. More ranges, more gun sales, more people working as instructors and range masters etc. Best of all, people would start viewing guns as a tool rather than a problem. People would want to TRAIN and that is rare. The only problem with this is the bureaucracy it would create. </div></div>

this topic is one near and dear to me. i know a few people that carry a gun every where they go and they are the least qualified people to be carrying a gun. the other day a guy came up to the shop because his car broke down in front of the shop. because the guy was black one of the guys i am talking about comes running down the stairs with his gun behind his back safety off and his finger on the trigger. he meets the guy at the door holding his gun behind his back the entire time with his finger on the trigger. after the guy left i went off i asked why he need a gun to talk to the guy and if he gave any thought to the 3 people working behind him while he held a loaded gun pointed in there direction with his finger on the trigger.

While IL is still a no-carry state, it has always been of great concern to me when comparing requirements for CCW in some states versus the HUNDREDS of hours a police officer must qualify with a weapon, evaluate stressful situations, interpreting the law and proper application of force and deadly force. Now consider that a staggering amount of officers in this country are deficient in 1 or more of those areas. I don't want to consider how many guys are out there carrying weapons they are not proficient with, for the wrong reasons, and with no idea of what consequences could await them if/when they fuck up.
That said, I carry as logistics and circumstance deem it to be reasonable. I recall speaking with a (former) fellow officer about his vacation plans. He scratched California from his road trip because he "couldn't figure out a viable option for carrying his Glock 27 concealed at the beach." No point in staying alive if you cant live.

this topic is one near and dear to me. i know a few people that carry a gun every where they go and they are the least qualified people to be carrying a gun. It bothers me so much that i make a point to be an ass about it. i work with them every day and when i see there gun tucked into there belt i always make a smart ass comment to the like you know i can take that gun out of your belt and beat you with it before you even have time to react. I brought my .45 in on day and let them soot it the one guy was 10 ft away from a 2 liter bottle and missed it by more than 3 ft the other guy is like 5'5" and 120lbs and is afraid of his own shadow. my point here is just because you state allows you to carry does not qualify you to carry.
my personal thought is all states should allow you to carry BUT unlike our state it should be a lot more involved than taking a class and watching a few videos. it should require quarterly qualification a minimum of 1 hour a month logged at the range and an advanced shooting class at least once every 2 years.
the other day a guy came up to the shop because his car broke down in front of the shop. because the guy was black one of the guys i am talking about comes running down the stairs with his gun behind his back safety off and his finger on the trigger. he meets the guy at the door holding his gun behind his back the entire time with his finger on the trigger. after the guy left i went off i asked why he need a gun to talk to the guy and if he gave any thought to the 3 people working behind him while he held a loaded gun pointed in there direction with his finger on the trigger.
