I agree about avoiding trouble, but there are times when trouble can't be avoided.
What if a man steps in front of you and has a weapon? Are you going to outrun him? Outrun the bullets?
</div></div>
That goes back to the "avoiding the trouble" portion of the above statement.
Where are you that you are likely to encounter this armed individual?
Why is there no one else around?
What circumstances lead you to be "surprised" by this individual?
How did you allow yourself to be put in this perfect storm of bad circumstances?
If he has the drop on you, even with a gun are you going to do? Draw in him....i'll put my money on the bad guy for the win.
Of course if we are walking alone down a dark, scary alley in a bad neighborhood, we all would want a gun on our hip. But the bigger question is:
WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?
</div></div> Shit can go down anywhere, anytime. We've had a shooting in a church a little over a year ago. Another in the mall. Another in the local grocery store. All within the last 18 months, all in broad daylight, all in the upper middle class parts of town. This isn't south Chicago, this is Knoxville TN. Things aren't always like in the movies with the dark alley way in the wrong part of town, and a dangerous situation can happen at anytime, anywhere, to anyone.
Do you not wear a seat belt because you don't drive dangerously putting yourself into dangerous situations, therefore you'll never get into a traffic accident either? Same concept, and I'm sure you buckle up every time you get behind the wheel. Same reason I carry all the time.
I could just as well stay home where I'm safe and sound. Instead I prefer not to live like a hermit. I want to go get some groceries, take my kids to the mall, and go to church. Both I and my wife carry because we have a brain, live in the real world instead of fantasy land, and we care about our family's safety and security. She's good with her pistol. So am I. I hope nobody ever has to find out just how good we are, but we'll both be ready to demonstrate it if put into that situation, because we will not be the victim. Ever.
