I have a stevens 200 action/donor that I picked up from a local dealer that was a sporter barrel 7-08 and built a 260 on it.
Jim as Northland Shooters Supply did have some Savage and Stevens actions only.

He was sold out a while back, but is showing short actions for $350.00

Join Savage Shooters and pay to become a member so you see the classifieds...short actions seem to come up for sale about once per week.

Buy a Stevens 200 and sell the barrell and stock on a local forum for $100 and go from there. Wal Mart has them pretty cheap the last time I looked just make sure you don't get the Axis/Edge.

Is 1 model better than another? I plan to build it into a 6.5 creedmore and put it in a XLR chassis.

If you plan to build a rifle, then any savage action will do except the axis/edge (not the same as other savage rifles). As recommended before, if you can get a Stevens, rebarrel it, buy the XLR for it, then a new trigger and youre GTG.

Savage does sell just there actions in long and short. They show it in there catalogs. What you need to do is contact them directly or through a gun shop either way you will need to have it shipped to a gun shop for the 4473 paper work.

Buds Gun shop also carries savage actions. They sell the 12 I think and its a little pricey for what you're looking to do.
