So I posted on here last week asking about differences between a 6 and 25 creed, and decided to go 6. But the more I thought about it, the amount of 6mm cartridges out there is quite large. I want something for plinking and whitetail inside 350 yards. I would like the easy button for it when it comes to reloading, and decent speed. I have a 6br and 30br, both are very heavy but probably the easiest thing I've ever reloaded for. I was thinking maybe a 6x47 lapua, 6xc? or stick with he 6 creed, any other suggestions? I have a ton of cci450s that id like to use up on this as well.

    thanks fellas

Any reason you don’t just want to run the 6BR you’re already set up for?

Even if you choose a new barrel for handiness, you get to save money by not having to invest in dies, brass, and possibly powder.

And at 350 yards, 6BR will kill a deer just fine.
Figured I'd like a little more velocity, and I have an action with no barrel. but I actually just ran the numbers. Figured I could get 2900fps with a 90grain and I'd have a little over 1,000 ft lbs of energy at 350. It's something to consider.

I discovered 6mm a couple years ago with a 243win and then a 243AI. Before that it was always .22 or .30 cal. for me.

The 243AI was still pretty loud suppressed shooting 55's at 4100 fps so I decided to go with something with a smaller powder charge. I decided on 6 Dasher. Right now the plan is to finish it at 22"

The 85gr bthp gamekings are devastating when pushed around 3400. Slowed down in the dasher I think they'll still be about right for the whitetail in my ao. Im thinking I'll probably mostly shoot 70-95gr projectiles in this build.

I'll echo what someone else already said though, you're already set up to load for the BR.

The GT is my pick for balance of performance vs longevity. If 98% of your shooting is going to be at paper/steel, the GT is a good choice.

If hunting is definitely on the table more than once or twice, I'd go CM. It'll give you less drop and drift by a tenth or two out to 350, and smaller cartridges require better shot placement for good results, period.

    My 6GT with a 105 Hybrid at 2,900 requires 3.9 mils at 650. My 6CM with a 108 ELD-M at 3,060 requires 3.4 mils at the same distance.

I just went through a similar evaluation. I ended up with an 18" 6 Creedmoor.

1.) Availability and lower cost of dies (quick search, you can always save money in the PX)

2.) The larger case capacity worked better with the powder I have on hand. I have 14 powders between H4350 and roughly H1000, and only one keg each of H4895, AR Comp and Varget.

I like having options, and Quickload showed 98-100% burn in the 18" barrel for all 14 powders, so "slower" burning isnt really a concern.

My main hunting rifle is an 18" 6 creed because i wanted the velocity to make up for shorter barrel with 105-112 class pills, factory ammo, and mag feeding without hiccups. I'd have a hard time not going BR, BRA, dasher, or GT depending on platform and mag setup if I was capping it at 350 yards and was going to be strictly handloading. Shoot ELDs, Ballistic Tips, or 95 TMKs if you can find them and deer will get wrecked and it'll be a dream to shoot. 900 ft/lb energy, 1200 ft/lb energy, doesn't matter - animal is getting a baseball+ diameter path of wreckage through them.

The idea of taking an old sako vixen or A1 in PPC and putting a 6 ARC tube on it for this purpose is something that sounds like a lot of fun for such a purpose (Plinking and deer inside 350 yards).

    6arc.

Kills deer like a lightning bolt, ammo and components are cheap, extreme increase in barrel life over the 6cm or the 6gt. Easy to shoot, very low recoil, inherently accurate, ammo is everywhere etc. I have an 18" and a 22" 6arc, and a 20" and 26" 6cm. Look at the data before you comment, but my 20" 6cm is so close to my 18" 6arc with the same bullets that it will make you feel really silly about all that has to be done for another 150fps. 30% of the barrel life or less, a lot more powder, more recoil, etc. Now, things change when you start comparing 26" barrels, but for a hunting/ plinking rig on deer sized game and E-types? 6arc all day every day..

What powder are you using in 6br and how long of a barrel can you stand? I always used h4895 with 105hybrids in my 6br and with 26" barrels, 2890-2915 wasn't leaning too hard on it.
