Okay, since the whole point in owning a 'can' is to see how quiet you can be, which company offers the quietest 'cans' on the market?

I was looking at picking up a Silencerco 9mm Osprey for my USPc.

I was also looking at picking up one of the following:
- An AAC M4-2000 Mod 08, or
- An AAC SPR/M4 Mod 08.

The question is which one is the quietest, easiest to clean, etc.?

Will someone (preferably someone who has experience with all of the above mentioned 'cans') please elaborate as to why (or why not) you would invest in one of these 'cans'?

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

Oh, shit!
Pay the money for the upgraded access on Silencerresearch.
Centerfire cans mostly get cleaned only by soaking, since they're mostly welded
Lots of more experienced opinions to follow.

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

You will be happy with all of those choices, the SPR will limit you to longer barrels, I would stay with the M4-2000 because of that.

If you happen to be a left handed shooter you will get face gas with a semi auto gun, in that case size up to the 308 size silencer.

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

These "whats the best ........." posts are getting old.

DO SOME RESEARCH PEOPLE! The information is out there, you just need to take the initiative to find it.

There is no "best" silencer there are suppressors that are better for certain roles and price points.

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

I have done a lot of research, but its hard if you can't actually talk to someone about the subject. That's why I'm here. I'm just looking for a little guidance from some of you "seasoned" suppressor veterans.

Maybe I should have prefeaced my post by saying, "In your opinion, which suppressors do you like the best and why?"

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

The aac m4-2000 gives you the best performance for any barrel length thats 10.5" and up.

The SPR/M4 is the best 5.56 performer they have.

The Osprey 9mm is a great can. I would get it if I didnt already have a bunch of other 9mm cans. I do have the osprey 40 and 45.

Give your choices you listed those are my opinions

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

If there is any way possible, try and actually test some of your choices, the guys in this field love to help out and show their suppressors, see if someone local can let you try a couple before you buy, the sound or tone of a suppressor can make a difference, they may meter close or the same, or the one with the best test data may not be what sounds best to you...

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

SH member Jon David Whitson, dba JDW Manufacturing Company, Inc., dba Shark Suppressors, offers the full-auto rated Hammerhead 5.56x45mm suppressor which features a non-welded high temperature press fit of a monocore baffle stack inside a tube/sleeve (think of a high-temp shrink wrap process). The Hammerhead is a thread-on suppressor (no quick attach/detach).

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

"Quietest" is a loaded question. Different weapons sound different using the same can. Most of the big named players all offer great products.

AAC makes great cans but be prepared to WAIT. There delivery time was pretty bad for cans and accessories (at least when I purchased mine / M4-2000 + Blackout mount).

Osprey- Waiting for my paperwork to get approved but nothing but positive reviews thus far. I liked the Tirant from AAC but from the long wait to get my other can and mount I looked for other options and glad I did.

No delivery problems from AAC for me in the past year or so.

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

That's good to hear.

I got in on the "branded for life" promo which was last year and it was a long wait. I know they merged with Remington so hopefully they can meet demand better now.

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

Whatever you choose, just make it easier on yourself and buy from a stocking dealer who has want you want on hand. That being said, I looked at the M4/2000 and M4/SPR very hard, and ended up getting an Ops Inc 15th. To my ear its quieter than the 2000, and has a nicer tone than the SPR. I also like the fact that its a single point connection (threaded)with a collar for indexing.

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

Yesterday I picked up my Ops Inc 3rd Model 30cal that was approved 11/24/10. 3 hours later I was at the range and I can't imagine being any happier with the rifle/suppressor/scope setup that I'll deer hunt in Tn with now. Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308/Ops Inc 3rd Model suppressor/Nitrex TR Two 3x15x50. I shot 5 shot groups of just about 1" with 44.6gr of Varget under 168 SMK and 165 Speer PSPBT yesterday.

To describe the suppressed .308 sound of this setup I'd say similar to the unsuppressed supersonic crack of a .22mag yet not as sharp of a 'crack'......if that makes sense. I'm still grinnin

Kudos to the guys at Ops Inc for a very good product!

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

The only way to choose reasonably if you want the quietest can is to listen to them. I showed up at a shoot with a new TAC16 suppressor from Tactical Innovations. 2 friends showed up with new cans from Gemtech and AAC. We all had AR's with 20" barrels and asking the 10 people at the shoot which was quietest gave 10 different answers. We all hear differently so whats quietest to you may not be to me.
Next do a check on customer satisfaction. Check a number of the boards out there. You will find that while some manufacturers have quiet cans they don't take care of problems very quick or well. Others have stellar customer service. Since the sound levels are so close anymore thats a big consideration if you ever need service on the can.
As others noted there are tons of posts archived on this subject here and elsewhere.
As a last note I'll stick my neck out here and say there is no quietest can. You must choose for yourself. I've had customers who were very disappointed with their purchases after using test data from various websites to choose their cans. I've had others who were happy. Its basically a crapshoot to go that way. On the other hand, all the customers who went and listened to the cans they were interested in were happy with their purchases. They knew what they were getting so there were no surprises good or bad....

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

btw the sound reducing will be as good as a 5.56 dedicated can...because of the larger volume makes up for the larger bore size.

The trade off is length.

Re: Which company produces better 'cans?'

one other thought. wait til after shot show. Everyone will be out with new cans. Silencerco is making a 5.56 can if I remember correctly.
