Which Heavy Duty Truck?

CP4’s are not trash..but the are made for high sulfur European diesel..we have LOW SULFUR DIESEL in the United States..the lubricity isn’t there for the CP4 gears
EU limit for sulphur in diesel is 10 mg/kg (10 PPM) US limit is 15 PPM.

May be different additives used between EU and US diesel though, know some nasty is added over here to counteract the bio.

Ask anyone who REALLY knows heavy duty trucks, and they will tell you the only advantage to Cummins is they are generally cheaper to work on.

I'll take Powerstrokes in my pickups,
CATs in my Semi Trucks
And John Deere in my equipment

I put on about 50k a year for work, and have had at least 9-10 half ton trucks over the years. A couple of GMC's then all F150s. Decided to switch it up this year and picked up an F250. So far I am really impressed, it doesn't handle or drive like a "big truck" at all. Has a smooth ride, plenty of power...and I got 20 mpg doing 80 on the interstate. I really have to be cognizant going to the pump though, 34 years of driving gas vehicles is a hard habit to break when you fuel up!

Here’s something I don’t run across every day. In fact, never ran across it in my life. Even in the days when I was working my way through college working at and managing a country gas station.

Our neighbor has a Chevy 1 ton Diesel. She doesn’t drive it very often and the battery had run down. She asked if I could jump her truck off. No issues. When we get the hood raised, the negative terminal is eat up with corrosion. The positive terminal looked brand new. I thought it might be a corrosion issue rather than a run down battery. So, I commence to remove it to take it off and clean it. I loosen the nut, pull upon the cable end

And the thing breaks in half!

Apparently they use an alloy that is high in zinc or is zinc and it becomes very brittle when corroded.

Well, I was able to get it back together, tight enough that we were able to get the diesel started. And she is on her way to the dealership in Ruston to get a replacement battery and now, presumably a new cable. I told her I would do whatever it cost her on the replacement cable, but she refused.

I know I should just do not one thing more than what is asked, but I feel I need to jsut try to make sure everything is right, not just half done. Boy do I screw up sometimes.

Thanks!

EEK!

I've been faithful using Fuel additives so it'll hopefully help.

If my Cryto investments go up I'll trade this truck in on a new one in 26 hoping that by now they've made higher quality CP4's.

Oh, how much approx OTD is it to have a delete done?
I was going back reading the posts and thought I'd update.

No problems with my 23 F250 since the high pressure fuel valve. Honestly this truck is awesome otherwise and has less than 9000 miles right now because I drive it only once a week much of the time.

Leaving for 10 days with the 5th wheel into the Alpine WY area in two weeks. """Hoping""" for a trouble free experience. Been camping 4-5 times since last summer and this truck pulls that 5th wheel like there's nothing back there. Exaggerating a little but actually not all that much.

My XRP crypto did take off somewhat, enough that I could have bought a new baser model truck but just not as expensive as mine was. Maybe in 26 I'll look into trading in or selling my 23, we'll see how high XRP goes up in a year or so.

Been taking good care on maintenance and fuel additives. It's silly to me that I have to get the oil changed every 6 months even though the truck only has another 1000 or so miles on it!
Man oh Man I hope the CP4 holds out!!!! It's stupid to think that this is something to worry about.

I have multiple F550’s (all 6.7 PS) and multiple Ram 5500’s (6.7 Cummins) on my farm. I avoid anything GM for legit work. GM makes pretty trucks, but no one I know uses them for serious work. They make nice Sunday Church or Go Out to Dinner trucks.

If you could combine the Ram drivetrain and the Ford body, it would be almost perfect. The Fords don’t seem to be as mechanically reliable as the Rams, but when they’re not dying and the turbos aren’t blowing up, they’re great. But those Cummins just keep on running. Also, the 6.7 PS seems to come off the assembly line with blowby built in as a feature. I’ve owned abused Rams with over 300K miles and zero blowby.

Haha I have had the complete opposite experience..my 6.7 2025 Cummins had to have the Hamilton flat tappet cam and my warranty voided at like under 20,000 miles just to make it kind of reliable..this will probably be my last Cummins
