Misery loves company, right? Well, I am just chomping at the bit to get my APA M2008 308 AICS 2.0 build. I've still got a while to wait. Still, I keep going over the APA website and drooling over Jered's builds. I'm still overseas so the rifle's going to be my homecoming gift to myself. At least I'll be busy until then.

Who else is waiting on their rifle? What did you order and who's putting your rifle together? It'd be interesting to see how many are in the same boat, biding out time until that phone call comes.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

I'm waiting on my Surgeon 338 Lapua build from GAP. It hasn't been long, but I know I have to wait a little bit. Guess it really doen't matter how long we have to wait because we all know how good it will be when the build shows up. I know how you feel brother!

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

Just sent my 2008 out to Bobby @ Lawton for barreling. Once I deploy/return, Ill have the change for a nice peice of glass and I'll be set....The rifle itself should be done early 2010.

Ill make a big stink about it so everyone should know its here

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

You're not in that boat alone. George's crew at GAP has my parts, AICS 1.5, M2008, and Huber Concepts trigger, waiting for assembly with a fluted Bartlien barrel chambered for .308 with a FTE brake.

It's only been there for a month, but it feels like a year already!

Good luck on the build, I know you'll love anything Jered does for you.

ZLBubba thanks for your service!

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

Footsoldier, you and I have the same taste in precision rigs! I went with the Huber trigger myself. I can't wait to hit the range and punch tiny, ragged holes. I realized over here that I'm a bit of a trigger snob. My AR15 back home has a JP trigger in it, and my carry pistol is a Sig. I fancy those triggers so much more than my issue M4 and M9.

Since I've got the rifle platform figured out, and I know what glass I'm going with now, I'm starting to look at a reloading press to get started on that side of shooting, an endeavor I should have done a long time ago. I can't imagine how many hundreds of dollars I've blown on factory ammo, but never again. The new rifle and glass, plus the reloading set for 308, 223, 40 and 45 - I'll be in hog heaven when I get back.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

Lawton is putting together a 243AI for me. 7000 action with fluted bolt and tactical knob, Shilen trigger, 29" 3 groove 8 twist with my AAC brake / suppresor mount timed. Setting it all in an A5. Putting a MK4 6.5-20 on it for tactical matches at TVP. I hope to be working up a load for it by the end of September.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

I am patiently waiting on a 243 myself, bartlein 7.5 twist, Mcm A3/5, huber trigger, seekins b/m

hopefully i should have it in 3 to 4 months

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

ZL, I have only been handloading for about 2.5 yrs now, so I'm no expert. But I load for the same caliber group you listed exactly, on a Dillon XL650 machine.

Can't beat it for an all-in-one machine to do mass production blaster ammo (.40, .45, .223) and working up the 3-4k of precision .308 and .223 I shoot a year.

I went with Dillon partly because of their no BS forever warranty and the fact that I live just down the road from them helped too. Spend some time over on brianenos.com and get a look at their gear.

Good luck on the reloading, it will cause you to learn more about shooting and the associated skills than I ever imagined.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

My package is going onto the brown truck today. I have a Surgeon round getting a Brux heavy palma in .243 1x7.5 twist and throated for the 115Dtacs. It will also be wearing a brake, all work being done by Straight Shot Gunsmithing.

It will get dropped into a BC light tactical and will run a Falcon 4x14 for the time being.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

Norcal, I'm envious that you get your hands on the new addition so soon. I'm already thinking about the switch barrel options for my M2008, and just counting the days until I get home and pick up my rifle. High five the UPS guy for all of us still waiting.

Footsoldier, since I'm new to the reloading game, I thought I'd ask this question: how difficult is it to produce precision ammo for your 308 and 223 with the Dillon 650? I heard that a single press is a lot more precise, but is that just a myth? I shoot a lot of pistol so this press may actually be the best option for me, provided I can get consistent precision reloads for the APA build.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

My 7WSM is with Jered (APA), he is almost done. Its a Surgeon RSR WSM action, 28" Fluted Rock 7mm barrel, Timney trigger and Badger Thruster brake. Ill be using the "due out any time now" Seekins WSM DBM system and a McMillan A5 stock topped with USO 5-25 T-Pal scope.

You need to come in a little earlier and stay a little later.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

My Remington 700 7mm mag is at GAP. It's been there a month. But I know it will be well worth the wait. If it shots like my .308 they rebarreled more than worth the wait. But I am like everyone else chomping at the bit to get to take it out.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

I'm waiting to get my AR10T out so I can have it rebarreled from GA. I hear they do some seriously nice AR10 work. Maybe I'll get lucky and it will shoot well enough to my standereds that I won't have to rebarrel it. I will have it cut,re-crowned, and fitted with a SF brake.

You need to get a wife that will do some work for you...
Oh wait, you already have that.

Agreed. Nice thing when working with Jon is that the wait isn't nearly as bad as it should be considering his skill.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

M2008, AICS 2.0, Pac-nor tube in 6.5X47L. Even if Mr.Corn called me and said it's ready to kill shit....I wouldn't have time to tinker with it:( But atleast I can look at it!

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

I'm waiting on two. Kirby Allen is building me a 375 Allen Mag ordered in March 2008. Nathan Dagley is building me a 22-243 Win. ordered January 2009. My luck they'll be done in the middle of hunting season or in the middle of winter when it's hard to get out and shoot anyway.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

Haha, I love the fact that Jered popped in long enough to see we were talking about him, then slipped back to the machines he went. I'd even put money that he's still working right now.

Jered, you've also got an "I love Jered" thread in the WTB/WTT section. I know, strange place, but someone asked about getting a rifle built, and you know this crowd and how much we love to share our opinions.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

300WM at GAP right now. No rush though as I have other rifles and not enough time to shoot now anyways. Still can't wait though. Will be like Christmas morn when the BBT shows up!

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

In a perfect world, you'd have a few different guns being built at the same time, but in different stages. The varmint gun is getting re-barreled, the new custom AR-10 is being built from the ground up, you're getting another barrel for the M2008, etc. Then they all get done about 2 months apart so you have time to enjoy each and every one. Yup, that's a perfect world.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

been waiting on my M40A1 from GAP for....well, more time than I care to think about. Rifle has been ready to ship for sometime...just the guys at USO holding up proceedings.

If it wasn't cheaper/easier on the paperwork to wait and ship all together I'd have got george to send the rifle two months ago.

I tell myself the wait is worthwhile but it surely sucks!

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

Yep been waiting on mine current build, a 338 LM, for over a year. Lawton really was in no hurry to get my barreled action out. But Mark at LOSOK finally got it in the other day and it is now at Manners getting the stock inletted. Hopefully the work remaining will be done within the next couple months.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

I'm actually mailing George the "balance due" for my build tomorrow. McMillan says my stock will arrive to GAP early November. Last time I spoke to Karey he said it would be Nov/Dec before it's complete. It will definetly be a Merry Christmas for me this year. Here are my new F(tr)-Class rifle specs:

Templar Gen II
Bartlein 29" #9 in 1/11.25
Jewell trigger
Badger M4 BM
McMillan A2 (black & gray McSwirl)

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

my new 300WM is being fire tested this week at HCR, have a 6.5CM being put together by Benchmark Barrels and a 243 and a 308 on their way from trades on the hide.....so, in 4 - 6 weeks I could have 4 new guns!!! but, like the rest of you, I am waiting.....

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

Ordered my .338LM from GAP around the end of February, according to GAP it's in production now and I should see it in 3 weeks or so - can't wait

I'm on about the same time table with GAP, all parts (except the barrel) supplied.

Quit Whining and go put some band-aids on those paper cuts.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

I've found the most counterproductive part of this waiting game is seeing similar builds or sticks by your favorite gunsmith pop up on the forums. I'll see a thread with APA on it and will immediately read it, thus torturing myself further.

I don't know how many of you are South Park fans but I liken this whole process to the time when Cartman couldn't wait for the Nintendo Wii to come out, so he convinced Butters to freeze him until the release date. Yeah, I'm that stoked.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

ZL; The wait is always worth it! I just got the call from Karey at GAP that my A2 was in, and to send my barreled action in. Shouldn't be too much longer.

On another front I am with you.......Dec. will be 5 years I've been waiting on a Japanese sword restoration & polish. There are about 3 guys in the USA that do outstanding work. Its just the way it is. Average wait is 3 years, I can't wait to see what is under the 300 year old tarnished steel. Came with WW2 surrender tag w/it, but was not a military sword. Even had the owners name and address. Reminds me of Hunters book with Bob Lee Swagger called the 47th Samurai. I could trace the family down somehow.

DON'T YOU DARE FREEZE YOURSELF! Don't you remember what happened to Cartman after he was thawed out?

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

Yeah, that episode is one of my favs... "I will crush them like clams on my belly!"

I'm realizing patience is not something I've got much of. I don't know how you've waited 3 years for a sword restoration, but my hats off to you, Kasumi. I hope to see before and after pics when you get the blade back.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

ZL, I feel your pain. I just dropped mine off Wed. they have a new guy working for them and said he is good to go. also that they are making progress in catching up on the back log. So hopefully it won't take as long in future to get your rifle back.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

The silver lining of the whole custom rifle process is this: when you do get the phone call, it's like Christmas. As adults, we don't get those moments too often so it's kind of nice to have something great to look forward to. There's still months on my wait time so in the mean time, I'll drool over these forums and my builder's website. And I'm positive when the day comes to pick up my rifle, I'm going to be one satisfied customer.

One of the reasons I chose the builder that I did was the reputation for customer service and responsiveness, and I've been nothing short of utterly impressed with APA. Truly professional people.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

After waiting over a year for my last custom build, I went out and bought a lathe. Now when I want a custom I just build it myself. I aready had some machinist skills so it wasn't a problem to get up to speed on the machine work. Last rifle I built is shooting sub 1/2 min groups. As far as those guys who saw the wait is worth it, tell me that when you're 60+ yrs old. I an't getting any younger.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

ZLBubba, after having the rifle a little while, you will look back at that wait as a necessary evil in this business. My problem is when I order a rifle, I seem to have some extra money lying around but when it is finished and time to pay, I'm always broke! I don't know if you've ever met Jared and Dave and crew, but if you did and picked their brains for a while you would be very confident in choosing them. They built me a 338 Lapua that is scary accurate to 1200yds (the farthest I've found to shoot) and they're finishing a 6.5x47 for me now. If you're serving overseas, a sincere thank-you.

i build my own but still need to wait on actions and barrels, mostly barrels.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

I got an email from Randy today telling me that my rifle will ship on Monday. I can't wait to get it. It's a trued virgin 700 action with a 22" bartlein MTU barrel in an AICS 1.5. I'll have it just in time for a match next weekend.

Re: Who else is waiting on their custom build?

Beautiful rifle, JJ. Hats off to your taste in sticks. You'll have to post a range report when you get to shoot it.

I almost hate to admit this but I must have spent six months or more researching different builders, different aspects of custom precision guns, etc. before I even made up my mind. Then, after talking to Jered, I knew I was sold on APA but I wanted to make sure my money was banked before I put the order in (combat pay rocks, btw). My old man taught me to pay cash money for anything other than a mortgage, education, or transportation. That lesson has served me well since the day he passed that wisdom on.

I felt like I was dragging my feet but the day I actually called in and made the order, I didn't feel one bit of anxiety despite this being the biggest purchase I've made since my truck. Yeah, I was that confident in my choice. And since I've still got a few months left down range, I've got no other choice but to build up some patience. Still, thank god for the Sniper's Hide when I need to view some gun porn.
