Why Anschutz Resale value so poor? (at least in the US)

I am a Rimfire Guy mostly. I have lots of other stuff. But Long Gong is really taking off and it is just the perfect blend of fun and Challenge for me personally. I have built precision AR's that I shoot at distance as well. But Currently down the 22lr Precision rabbit hole. I was born in 1970 when the Olympics were still cool. I had gun envy back then seeing the Biathlon events. That Anschutz silhouette has still not changed much. I am looking at Model 54's. New from the location here in the USA for ~4k. But used. 1200 for vintage and 2k for a couple years old. I also love BMW's. Their resale is garbage. Sexy Sexy lines on the Anschutz if you ask me. Seems I should buy used? But I never buy used guns unless it is Milsurp. What do you all think about this? Is it part of the Cycle we are in? Should I just get a Winnie 52d instead? My moms maiden name is Mackner though. I Like the German stuff. Thoughts?

First, Welcome to the rabbit hole, Second outside of Cool stuff lust, what would you be doing with one? The reason for the low resale is that the market is so limited. Most people are plinkers, small game shooters or collectors. I have a 1712, a couple of 54:18s, and a 1727F AI. I also have a an old Win 52C and a Walther KK300 position rifle. Resale is not something I ever really think of. My goal is to never sell one again, that will be my kid's job and anything they get will be more than they had. Used 22s are generally safe if you can take a look at the barrel, Check the crown, see if the action is smooth and safeties work well, look for rust. These will tell you how it's been taken care of (sort of), and plan to do a deep clean with a chamber soak with C4.

I think Anschutz has a lot more competition than it used to. CZ, Bergara, Tikka, Howa, Vudu, and many others are getting equal results or very close at a fraction of the price.

I also think they need more synthetic and chassis platforms if they want to compete in emerging sports like Rimfire PRS.

The used ones can be a dice roll, if you have to mess with a bad bore or trigger it is expensive.

This is the answer.

The guys looking for fun/recreational use don't have the deep pockets or the inclination to spend $2-4k on used rifle, but there are alot of guys that will throw this kind of money around for comp rifles. However, they will only do it for actually competition-level rigs, fully finished. So that means they spread $3-4k around the final build list, and that typically means a breakdown of the budget of ~$1.5k for new chassis/weightes etc and ~$.6-1k for new barrel, $2-300 for a trigger, leaving a residual $ budget for action well under-$2k.

In that context, a $600 cz bare action is alot of savings--$500-800-ish-- even in proportion to the final build cost.

Very much agree with Old Man.....

I loved the Annies I owned. I would still have one if I wanted it just for precision plinking.....but I purchased to use in Rimfire PRS style comps, and I had to turn my back to them. Mine (I've owned several models) and others would have extraction issues. I think the news of the issue spread like wildfire and in the comp world an extraction issue is NOT GOOD. lol. I see Anschutz is getting more involved in the US comps, so maybe the issues have been resolved.

They're just not popular.

Majority of us shoot competitions that they don't really fit in.
If I was shooting a NRA positional small bore match I'd look at an Olympic style Annie.
Anything else, I'd rather use my B14R or Rim-X in a chassis.

Magazine size and choice is a big key. A majority of used ones I've come across are setup for single shot, which really murders resale.
