I guess I'll need you to explain why you think I am a dumbfuck for preferring to allow people to have freedom of choice to wear a mask or not. How do you believe I have used emotion to make decisions about mandatory mask wearing when I have had nothing to do with the creation of those laws?

Since this thread contains no funny memes or pictures, I made fried chicken. 
I also think that young guys like myself (41) should shovel the snow off of our elderly neighbors’ sidewalks. I consider it a duty. If one of those people slip and fall, then it could completely destroy or even end their lives. We should make it a mandate.
When I think about the destruction caused in American families by alcohol, I simply can’t, in good conscience, imbibe. To show my support of the millions affected, I will abstain. And once I get my mandate passed, you will, too.
And healthcare is unbelievably expensive, and as we move toward sharing that burden, I don’t think anyone needs to be smoking cigarettes, chewing, drinking large amounts of soda, or consuming large amounts of sugary food. Nobody needs to pay for your COPD or diabetes, when you could have just quit. My thoughts... we make it illegal.
I have a lot of other great ideas to make the world a better place, but I can’t go into all of them here. Don’t get me started on marijuana!!

They fucking cancelled Halloween here and have a curfew in place. Schools are shitting down (my kid’s has been closed for two weeks now...which is Businesses are being shutdown again as well. They are also telling employers to give paperwork to employees so they can show the police if they are stopped while driving. All of this is in effect until mid December.
People like the OP with their smug “I wear a mask because it’s my contribution so you can go ahead and thank me for my selfless service” should be fucking publicly bleachboarded with their mask on.

So, what you are saying is really not so far removed from what I am saying. My point was that yes, all things equal, adding correct mask use would decrease transfer. BUT, the big problem with masks is that they give a false sense of security, not all masks are useful, and people are idiots.
Let me flesh this out. Doctors use masks and they definitely decrease transmission in hospital environments. Why? Because they use the correct masks, they use them correctly, and they don't let them increase risky behavior. They don't start hugging people because they have masks, picking their noses, not washing hands. And they don't wear their mom's doily as a mask. But it isn't that masks don't work, it is that tools don't work when used incorrectly. And I think there is a great possibility that the negatives outweigh the positives because of the increase in risky behavior based on a false sense of security.

in surgery, masks are very important and they, along with other ppe and sterile procedures help reduce the chance of infection for the patient.
as far as the overall use of masks and procedures within hospitals in general?
you are much more likely to become infected with staph and a number of nosocomial infections than if you were not in the hospital, so i would have to say the evidence is not overwhelming that their use of ppe is particularly effective.
