on a 6.5x47L I loaded a 123 gr. Amax into the brass but only down far enough that the bearing surface is only in contact with the top 1/2 to 2/3 of the case neck. The boat tail is in the bottom 1/3 of the neck and just a tab of the base is in the shoulder area...

I was just reading the 6mmCrusader thread in the bolt rifles section and Mr. Gardner from GAP said there is no doughnuts with his round because the bearing surface of the bullet is in 100% of the neck.

if the bottom 1/3 of my neck has no bearing surface in it, will it form a doughnut when fired?

I was trying to keep my bullet seated on the long side to have extra powder room....

You shouldn't get any more "donuts" loaded this way than with other loads seated deeper into the case.

My first questions is...Is your rifle chamber throated long enough that you aren't jamming the bullet into the rifling?

If you are still off the lands, then I don't see an issue. I've had a couple of rifles chambered to seat the bullet out of the case body and in the neck only. However, my rounds are seated with the bearing surface of the bullet .020 or so above the shoulder. The less bearing surface you have in the neck, the more likely you are to introduce runout from rough handling. How likely...who knows, but if you only have .050 of the bullet in the neck, there is obviously less support to hold the bullet.

Fark mate, you should see my rounds... i have a "bees penis" length of the projectile seated into the neck.

I don't have a long throat yet, I'm putting together a dummy round to send to Dave Kiff. I have the bullet seated high in the neck to fully use the shoulder area space for powder. If I recall my OAL is 2.757.
