Gunsmithing X-Mark Pro trigger inconsistancies?

I adjusted my trigger down on my X-Mark Pro as low as I could go without needing more sear engagement, ie- I brought it low enough that it would slam fire, then brought it back up a bit so that it wouldn't. I don't have a trigger scale handy, but it feels like 2.5 pounds or so, though it might be more or less.

Anyhow, I have been practicing my trigger pull per the online training, and it seems like the pull is inconsistent. Every now and again, it seems really heavy. I probably only notice it because I have pulled the trigger a thousand or so times now, between practice and range time, but it bothers me a bit. It somewhat breaks my concentration when I am making a shot if the trigger requires double the effort to pull (or so it seems.)

Is it all just in my head, or is this a real drawback to the factory trigger? I know that this could be eliminated by going to an aftermarket trigger, and maybe I could see the value in it if I had some trigger time on one, but for the most part, this trigger seems to get the job done and allows me to put money other places on this build.

Also, I searched and searched and searched, but is there a good guide online for adjusting your own (post 09) x-mark pro? I removed the external screw, then adjusted the weight screw as low as I could go, but haven't messed with the sear engagement or over travel. If I could get it a bit lighter without adding creep, I would like to.

Thanks,

-BM

Re: X-Mark Pro trigger inconsistancies?

When you adjust the X Mark Pro as low as they will go they somtimes vary by as much as a full pound pull to pull. I laugh my ass off every time a new Rem comes in the shop with tag still on it telling how great that new piece of shit trigger is. I have heard of guys having luck bluprinting them with new pins, and stoneing all the surfaces. But by them you have paid for a new Timney, which will always be better than the X Mark Pro.

Re: X-Mark Pro trigger inconsistancies?

better than stoning and blueprinting the current trigger.

All it takes is to pop out the 2 trigger pins, and re-installing the timney in reverse of taking the xmark out. I think Timney's might come with install instructions. If you order direct from Timney, you can order it set to the weight you want. They usually come out pretty close

Re: X-Mark Pro trigger inconsistancies?

I can handle that.

Are the dimensions different, like a Jewell? Because I CAN'T handle inletting.

Re: X-Mark Pro trigger inconsistancies?

The X-mark is probably the biggest piece of shit that Remington have ever entertained in there whole history.

Re: X-Mark Pro trigger inconsistancies?

I certainly wouldn't say that the X-Mark pro is the best trigger on the market, but I would say it is definately of a safer design than the connector style design. I have also found that the X-Mark can be workable and tuneable. I think the surfaces require some break-in, and I am not advocating that people mess with stoning and replacing springs, but if you know your way around the trigger, there can be improvements made. Bottom line for me, the X-Mark is useable and safer than the old style, but there are defiantely better answers out there in the aftermarket.

Re: X-Mark Pro trigger inconsistancies?

I do several X-Mark Pro trigger jobs a week locally. The secert is 3 fold. 1) you must remove the sear engagement screw, clean and reset it. 2) you don't need to stone the sear, just polish it with buffing compound and a buffing wheel at the contact points. 3) follow a distinct order on adjustment procedure.

I successfully get the X-Mark Pro's down to 1.5 -1.75# with consistant pull (usually within 2-3oz's on a digital trigger gauge). I've even had some adjust down to 8 ounces reliably.

Just adjusting the weight of pull screw too low will cause slam fires.

Hope this helped.

</div></div>Wouldn't happen to want to write out a quick "how-to" guide on the "distinct order on adjustment," would you?
