Xero C1 Pro - v3.30 update

Last weekend I shot 20 rounds of 6.5 suppressed off a tripod with the Xero rifle mounted. Captured all 20 shots without issue. On version 3.32.

Pics of where the Xero is mounted and how far far back from the suppressor it was actually sitting.

FWIW I logged another 10 today with no problems. That makes around 230 rds logged since March, divided between air rifle pellets, hand gun rounds, and rifle rounds. Slowest was 85 fps, fastest was 3344 fps. I used both the included tripod and the Area 419 arca mount. I have installed the updates as they came out, and haven’t had any missed shots or any other issues.

I really thought I had dodged a bullet not having installed the 3.30 update. The last one I did was 3.27 and I did that one only at the end of my review cycle when I was making sure I had investigated the various software features thoroughly as I didn't use the app for my own use. Turns out I was wrong. I had not used the Garmin at a crowded indoor range since early in the review process with the original firmware. At that time it worked great. It didn't pick up a single shot from my neighbors and picked most of mine despite the position on the table being a bit further from the bore than recommended. This time... Yikes. I couldn't stop picking up neighboring shots. It even occasionally picked up one from two lanes over. You would think it would be keen to pick up all mine as well wouldn't you. Not so! The Garmin was dropping shots right and left. It wasn't even just the .22lr shots either, it was even dropping 9mm shots which are super easy for chronos to pick up. Meanwhile, the new Athlon didn't miss a shot all day and only picked up one neighboring lane shot...

Hopefully fully updating the Garmin will restore it somewhat to sanity but I really just want the original firmware back. It worked great with that firmware. If it doesn't ima have to update the review. The function today was significantly diminished from the original firmware. Fingers crossed for 3.32.

My only gripe about the Garmin is that I'd like to be able to change the display so that the "AVERAGE" velocity is what is shown "LARGE" instead of the last shot fired. I'm to the point where I need reading class to see close range and I don't always have them at the range. I can see fine to shoot or at distance. Connecting to a cell phone isn't the answer as I'm in rural Canada where cell service is the exception not the rule.
I can't be the only up close visually challenged shooter out there.

We are not seeing any missed shots in our testing since v3.32. If anyone is still having issues with missed shots, could you please provide the following information?
  • SW Version (from the Settings | About page on the device, not the app)
  • Number of shots taken vs recorded
  • Indoor vs Outdoor
  • Was the Xero C1 placed within the specified distance behind the muzzle and laterally from the barrel?
  • Caliber and rough expected speed
  • Are you willing to do a factory reset on the device? If yes, does that resolve the issue? Sync to the app first to avoid losing any saved sessions.
Thanks for your help.

Are you guys still against putting the garmin on the rifle?

I did do a factory reset when I was running into issues and the newest update remained. And continued to miss shot on and off rifle. It was indoors however

A factory reset will not change the software version. Are you on v3.30 or v3.32 now? Have you had a chance to try it outdoors? Is there any difference?

@Garmin - As follows:
- SW Version: 3.32
- Number of shots taken vs recorded: I have made several detailed reports in this discussion thread over the last month or two. Please review them. They were posted here for Garmin to read.
- Outdoor vs Indoor: Always outdoor, mostly alone on the firing line.
- Xero Placement: Early strings after software update, the unit attached to rifle with several missed shots. So transitioned to ground mounted on factory provided tripod and I still miss shots. Pictures posted in this thread previously with tape measure showing placement. So yes, it is placed within the specified distance.
- Caliber & Speed: 6.5 Creedmoor at 2835 and 300 PRC at 2900
- I will try a factory reset and report back. But I don't have my hopes up. Perhaps my unit needs warranty repair/replacement.

@Garmin
I had missed shots yesterday. It was frustrating because it was during load development. I did not realize that shots were missed until I was done so the session and ammo was wasted. It missed 2 out of 30 shots.

SW Version: 3.32
Number of shots taken vs recorded: 30 taken, 28 recorded
Indoor vs Outdoor: Outdoor, 78F, 72% humidity, cloudy, no wind.
Was the Xero C1 placed within the specified distance behind the muzzle and laterally from the barrel?: Yes, attached via a solid base to the Arca rail so the position was the same for every shot.
Caliber and rough expected speed: 6.5 Creedmoor, ~2765 fps (Berger 144gr HLRT bullets, target at 100 yards, flat terrain)
Are you willing to do a factory reset on the device? If yes, does that resolve the issue? Sync to the app first to avoid losing any saved sessions:: Yes, willing to try a factory reset and report but I will not be able to get to the range for two weeks.

EDIT: One more odd thing--shots 19 and 20 report identical speeds. So do shots 21 and 22. Duplicates?? I have never seen duplicates before.

Putting them in as spreadsheet and aligning similar speeds under a charge (while keeping the recorded values in order), it looks like shots 17 and 27 were missed.

@Garmin,
I went to same indoor range I’ve been going to in other tests, before and after the newest update. Decided to try off rifle on provided tripod and didn’t experience the erratic “analyzing shot” without firing a shot as I did before. It did however miss one shot.

My placement I assumed was the issue. So I moved it right next to where my bipod is and given the limited space of the bench I was shooting off of it MAY have been a real estate issue. Nonetheless I tried to get it within the recommended distances. From there on out I never missed a shot for the remaining 25 test rounds.

Being very pleased with the results not just from the chrono but my test rounds I decided to try to induce the issues I had before by tilting rifle a bunch, and mounting it on rifle. Mimicking the distance I had it with the tripod. No missed shots for the next 10 shot string

I'm on 3.32 and, for the first time, it started picking up shooters next to me. This happened at a Hunter match where everyone is laying next to each other grabbing velocity for power factor. I've run mine like this at every match and it's never picked up adjacent shooters. It always shocked me that it didn't but it most certainly did not. Until now.

You don't need cell service to connect it to your phone, the bluetooth connection functions regardless of whether your phone is connected to your network.

I've been shooting 100% suppressed last 10 months. Last 2 new updates 3.30(really bad) 3.32(misses 1-2/20 shots). This last week I got a new match barrel and decided to give the Chad brake a try on it. I've put about 300 rounds down it, and the 3.32 hasn't missed a single one on that rifle. However I was also shooting a suppressed rifle with it yesterday, and still dropped 1-2 shots.

Edit, was at range this morning, and it dropped one off the braked rifle too.

Is there a faster way to delete strings? I wish I could select a bunch and hit delete. When I ran out of room I remember having to go into each one and delete it. I’m going off memory though.
Don't really know about deleting stuff, but how many shots do you think it took to fill it up? Must be a ton, not a lot of data to store.

If it's like the Labradar, it's not the number of shots, but rather the number of Strings. I think the LR filled up at 100 Strings before it started to write over the oldest ones. I want to say the Garmin is the same/similar.

LR was 100 shots and it would overwrite the string, but that was fixed a while back. It now creates a new string with the latest firmware and app.

Ok, so then it's both, apparently. I never put anywhere near 100 shots in a string, but it began to overwrite old strings with new ones when you hit 100 strings.
Correction: Now that I think about it, I don't think the LR would overwrite strings. Instead, I think it stopped at 99 or 100 strings, and then required you to delete some if you wanted to free up space for continued operation? Can't remember for sure - I haven't touched it since the Garmin came out. The Garmin, when full (100 strings?) asks for permission to overwrite the oldest strings in order to continue.
