I have an Xl650 for reloading pistol ammo. I'm trying to get into "longer" range shooting. I was wondering should I buy the conversion kits(223 and 308)for the xl650($100 bucks a piece) or should I just get a co-ax?
from what I'm getting the Co-ax is the shit, what do you think?

I'm considering a way to throw and trickel up to weight and charge each case like that. I'll probably be adding 308 to my XL650 this year.

Re: xl650 for long range loading?

Hi i have loaded a lot of 223 and 308 for Palma shooters on a 650 if you have the newer modell with the safty lever on the powder thrower you need to disconect it by sliding a 14? bolt through the plates. the way it works is if you lift the ram handle the spring loaded lock slams up and powder go's everywhere but into the case. the older ones worked flawlesly but it was possible to double charge with them but with a 308 there is no way to double charge as the case wont hold twice the powder.

So the allo i loaded was used by 2 top shooters in my club for Full Bore/ Palma one is the No1 shooter for Australia int he commonwelth games and he was shooting 50/50 with 9 and 10 centres.

The volume bar ont he dillon measures works very well i was usung Varget but powders like 8208 would meter slightly better. the secret is not to runt he press without it being fully charged. when you run the cases around through the stations stop when you have the fires few charged they will be out then once the load plats is full using every station the whole press balances out and measures well. for a 223 BenchMark meeters realy well aswell as powders like Win748 for light bullets and Win760 gor heavies also hodgdon Ball powder and the shorter granual powders like H322, 8028XBR and IMR8208 aswell as BenchMark. H4895 also has a granule size between Benchmark and Varget and meeters well.

So get the conversian and go for it i am looking for another 650 just to load 223 for club rifles and shooters with 25gr Varget rem 7 1/2 primers and 80gr Nosler projectiles.

Re: xl650 for long range loading?

I've been loading 223 for several years. Mine likes IMR 4198 very well. My AR is just basically a mil-spec rifle. It shoots 1 1/4" at 100 yards. That's a 30 shot group.

Re: xl650 for long range loading?

I've been loading more and more of my LR ammo on my 550, using one of Whidden's tool heads and the UniqueTek head jacking kits. AFAIK, John loads on a XL650 with one of these tool heads. I don't trust the Dillon powder measure with anything but ball powder, and even short-cut extruded powders give it fits in my experience. You can swap out the powder measure for a Hornady or RCBS unit with a case-activated powder drop, and they will function a little better with stuff like Varget & RE-15. I still weigh charges for LR, though.
