Hunting & Fishing Your “go to” hunting rifle?

170193B0-89DB-4C89-8F09-406371D516E4.jpeg

Got the 338 RUM painted up, I was getting ready to hit the range when I noticed my reticle jumping inside the optic from 24-25x so now I have to send it off to Germany AGAIN and wait 3 more months I’m sure. On the flip side I just traded a seekins havak (+cash) for a 5-25 ATACR, so I should still be able to use it this season. It had a couple kills last year and I’m sure it will this year as well.

I hope everyone is dropping 4 legged creatures with all the BA guns in this thread.

This is the new go-to. Early 80’s Rem 700 action. Bartlien bull sporter. Manners carbon fiber EH1. Hawkins DBM. 6.5x47L. So much better than toting around my match rifle all the time.

interested in how much it weighs as well.

My 7SS I had Travis at TS Customs put together for me. I had him install some T-nuts just in front of the mag well so that I can run a short section of arca rail for shooting off a tripod. Hopefully I can get it up and going soon.

Specs:
Lone Peak Fuzion (not Ti)
Manners EH1
24" Proof Sendero 1:8.25 tw

Not in pic:
TT Diamond
Kahles 318i

Tikka T3 in 30-06. Once I shoot the barrel out I’ll throw a proof carbon on it in 26 or 28 Nosler and drop it in a Manners MCS.

AR15, AR10, rem 700, lever gun, muzzle loader, bow; I've shot big game with all of them. But, my go to is a remington 700 mountain rifle in 270 winchester.

7SAW running 150gr Partition for short range, 151 Cayuga for long range and Scenar-L 150 for practice.
Defiance anTI short action
Hawkins hunter DBM using their mag for the Nos Part (2.875) and the MDT 5 rnd AICS for the Cayuga (2.935)
Manners LRH
Bartlein #3 contour 1/9 twist 22in
Manners LRH stock with “mini chassis”
S&B ultra klassik 3-12x42 p3l mil/mil
Trigger tech 2 stage.

Bathroom scale says 9lbs with a full magazine.
Yes the bipod rail is inverted, that’s on purpose for load dev.

HS Precision 260 Remington with a nice Zeiss Davari illuminated scope. It’s accurate as hell and I got off Cabelas Gun Library for 2K less than they paid for it…. It kills deer, pigs, fox, everything.

Decided I'm going to get into Cous deer hunting this year.

Don't have the funds to build a dedicated hunting rifle, so I'm having TS Customs spin up an 18" barrel for my PRS rifle in a contour similar to 3B, in 6.5 Creedmoor as I have 5 boxes of 143 ELDX precision hunter.

I'll drop the barreled action (Mausingfield, new 18" barrel) into a KRG Bravo Chassis to save a few pounds. Will still be a ~12+ lb rifle.

Current go-to rig and I don’t see changing anytime soon.

Beanland Custom
Bighorn Origin
24” 8 twist Bartlein 5R #3 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor
McMillan Adjustable Game Scout In Desert Carbon Ambush

The only change I’ve made is the barreled action now rides in an MPA Ultralight chassis. It just fits me better than the McMillan did. Same weight as the McMillan and no loss in precision. Ten-shot group shown.

Remington 700 stainless in 30-06.
Blueprinted action, barrel turned in 2 revs and rechambered.
Jewell trigger, HS stock, billet bottom metal, Loopy VX6 3-9x40.
Ignore sunshade from old MK4....was a trial fit, didn't like it.
It will shoot and is a shitload lighter than you would think....never weighed it though.
If you hand it to anyone it's "holy shit, that thing weighs nothing".

Need to make a leather sling for for it. Always gets the job done and wouldn’t have a problem hunting anywhere in the world. Interarms whitworth .375 Holland & Holland.

It’s hard to argue with the utility of the 375 H&H. Flat enough to 300 yards, hits like a freight train, penetrates well, but with most bullets doesn’t wreck meat like a lot of magnum rounds.

Remington Model Seven SS in 7-08 with 20" barrel. A .308 would be equally as good.

My other favorite is a Remington Model Seven SS in 7 SAUM with a 22" barrel.

Both have Leupold VX3i scopes sitting in Talley lightweight rings. I feed them both Nosler bullets.

VX-6 2-12 x 42 with firedot. It works nicely. The rail is a Seekins and low enough I can see the irons above it when I QD the scope. Great for bear country when a guy wants irons rather than glass.

I really like that setup and am considering a Rem 700 in 416 rem. My boys are hunting with me more and last moose season we could see the brush moving and hear the Grizz snapping his jaws and huffing. I was feeling a little under gunned.

Thompson Center Compass II .308 Win. Factory synthetic stock. Goda Grip cheek pad plus some craft foam and vet tape and a scope cover I got from Amazon. Silencerco ASR2 muzzle brake. If I want, I can later get a suppressor that threads right on to it.

Falcon Strike hydraulic recoil pad. 5 round detachable magazine works great. Average of 1/2 MOA regardless of barrel heat. Nicely free-floated is anchored on the factory metal pillars for bedding. Kisses like a butterfly. I average 40 rounds at the range with zero soreness, so no flinch.

Vortex Venom 5-25X56 scope.

It does best with Federal Fusion 165 grain.

Edit I have moved back to the Oryx stock. Need to post a new pic.

So, new pic, same rifle in the Oryx chassis. Same scope. With a full 10 round magazine, I weighed it on the scale. 13 lbs 9 oz. It does not feel heavy to me. So, I will use a 5 round mag for actual hunting.

Edited to add: with MDT polymer 5 rd mag, 13 pounds 4 ounces.

Seekins havak ph2 in 6.5prc is my go too big game rifle and my new 20” 22nxs AR should be the go too for coyotes moving forward.

A lot of the deer I hunt are not large so the 257 Roberts on an FN Commercial with Z4i 3-12x50 often gets picked. Usual bullet is 120gr Speer SPBT

I have seen a good review of the Seekins Havak Bravo (because they are using the KRG Bravo chassis) from Va meat hunter on YouTube. Sub MOA at 100 yards.

I have a Fieldcraft in 6.5 Creedmoor and 21” barrel. No pictures of the rifle or of groups, but an honest 1” or less with 130 AR hybrids or 139 Scenars.

Fieldcraft came in this week!

Barrett Fieldcraft 21" 6mm Creedmoor
Talley Low rings
SHV 3-10x42 forceplex
Montana Sling

Piglite tripod
Sunwayfoto 52DL
Hogsaddle

There's only a short list of things I can't do with this setup east of the Mississippi.

as can be expected there are different rifles for different locations

those rifles have differences in cal, weight etc

question:

how far do you walk with your rifle?

so guys ATV in close some guys walk mountains for a week etc

just seeing if there is a trend of rifles getting heavier just like they are in the precision world

15 years ago a "tactical rifle" weighted 15 lbs, now a PRS gun weighs 22

that PRS increase is because its part of the game, but guys hunt with those rifles as well

north east usa NY, the walks arent more than a mile at best if at all so rifle weight isnt really a issue unless someone is lazy

figured id ask
