Okay, range report. Not such a good day. I already knew some folks were gonna laugh because I showed up with an OTV vest on and a ghillie suit under it, but I thought I should use 'em "realistically". When I put those on, they laughed even harder, I couldn't concentrate (some folks don't take anything seriously) and I found that while I could get a good magnified image, I wasn't able to locate the crosshairs for the life of me... So I didn't fire any using that method but it didn't discourage me.
I just used 'em with the EOTech. People laughed, but it was just like playing COD but at the range, so joke on them! And with the gear on too, how much more realistic can you get? And since the Zoomies make the world look like a 3x HD TV, it's even better, because you can zoom right on past the guys in tan pants and jeans not taking this seriously!
So Zoomies are good for serious trainers who take the time to put their armor and ghillies on before going to the range, and who use their Zoomies with an EOTech vs. a traditional optic for grueling immersive individual training. Because if you're gonna train with Zoomies on, you may as well have the rest of your real world gear on too --that's how the pros do it.
Bottom line: Zoomies go for serious EOTech action, but only if you're serious enough to practice and get it right. Zoomies aren't for newb shooters --and it wouldn't surprise me if they milspec these out and make an issue version soon for future operators. That said, I'd wait on milspec, or get custom Zoomies made, if you plan to deploy with yours. On the other hand, if they're all that's available, Zoomies are so good I'd just get two and take both and if one broke use the other for parts.
Surprised nobody thought of using these yet...
(Note: Contact Zoomies maker, recommend Zoomies make modular monocular or dual monocular version with a picatinny rail on the side for ops essential gear, perhaps a flip up one to connect to helmet mounts, since most soldiers will likely opt to wear this during day ops and when on patrol anyway.)
