Torque question

I was just trying to remove and retorque the screws on my optics rail to ensure they were correct and 3 of the 4 went without a hitch (factory spec called for 15-20 inch pounds, which I verified with them over the phone before I started, I split the difference at 18), but number 4 (technically number 2, counting from the rear) would not budge and stripped the screw head (number 25 Torx), I have no idea what torque they installed that one at but I’m betting it was WAY more than 20 inch pounds). My question is how much does that matter? Am I good to go just ignoring it or will that throw something off? Do I need to send it in to the factory to get fixed or can I just leave it be since it’s obviously not going anywhere and the other 3 are good?

Rifle is a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. The stripped screw is the second from the back on the factory picatinny rail. The other 3 are now torqued to 18 inch pounds and Vibra Tight VC-3ed with a 10 minute cure prior to reinstalling.

Buttigieg: Building 8 EV Charging Stations Under $7.5 Billion Investment for Them Is ‘On Track’

On Thursday’s broadcast of CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stated that building eight electric vehicle charging stations so far under the Inflation Reduction Act’s $7.5 billion investment in electric vehicle charging stations is “on track.” Because most construction will occur in the second half of the decade.

Co-host Joe Kernen asked, “[O]ur designs on electrification of the auto industry, have we recalibrated there? And I’ll just give you one item and you can — maybe you can explain why, but under the Inflation Reduction Act, 7.5 billion for building these charging stations. The latest information, eight have been built with the 7.5 billion that had been allocated. You’re supposed to get to 500,000 of these charging stations by 2030. What is really the problem with — do you — have you looked at that and figured out why?”

Buttigieg responded, “Oh yeah, that’s on track. So, we’re at about 190,000 publicly available charging stations in the U.S. That’s approximately double what the level was when President Biden came in. The issue, though, is that there are some gaps in the market, ones that are just not going to be built by the private sector that’s been building the construction of those chargers to date. That’s why the legislation provided for funding to do federally-supported chargers that are intended to be online before 2030. Now, the bulk of that construction will happen in ’27, ’28, quite a bit, actually, I expect by 2026. A handful, as you mentioned, are actually already up and running. But really what you’re going to see is more in the second half of this decade. And it’s really important to have those federally-supported chargers, because you have stretches of road or even just in the middle of our cities, apartment buildings, places in our economy where it just doesn’t yet pencil out for there to be the private sector profitably doing that. And even though about 80% of EV charging happens at home, the reality is that the new EV kind of landscape we’re working toward where the president’s goal is about half of sales to be EVs by the end of this decade requires us, by the end of this decade, to have a lot of charging apparatus that just isn’t there as we’re sitting here in 2024.”

- Chambered, cerakoted graphite black, cut & threaded 5/8x24 by LRI

Well hmmm…AZ what you doing?

8208xbr pressure signs with 308?

I was looking into a different powder for my 308 load with 155 scenars. Currently using 47.5g Varget, CCI-200, R-P Brass, CBTO 2.216" or 2.835" COAL. This gives me .050" jump on a fairly new Tikka CTR 308 20" barrel. That load is compressed pretty good and yields 2840 avg and a 10 shot moa or less groiup at 100.

When I looked on Gordons, it looks like I'm not getting 100% burn in that short of tube. So I decided to give 8208xbr a shot. Have a lb of it and its starting to show back up. Loaded 44, 44.5, 45 & 45.3 (book max) and went shoot for pressure. Saw nothing. Primer looked fine, very easy bolt lift, no swipes or ejector marks. So loaded up a few just to see. Neither were near compressed loads, so I liked that.

45g 8208, 2.216" CBTO, .050" jump
45.3g 8208, 2.216" CBTO, .050" jump

What I noticed was the SD/ES were ridiculously low and velocities were up. It was +90* when I was shooting and humidity was like breathing pea soup. When I tested for pressure, I didn't see anything to speak of, but when I shot these 3 rounds each to get some velo numbers, I noticed a few things on the case head.

InShot_20240919_165046152.jpg InShot_20240919_164536315.jpg

Of course, only 3 shots, but 45 was .617" and 45.3 was .412" at only 100 yard (I was limited by this range)

I did notice a slight ejector mark on 1 of each set. So should I back down to 44 / 44.5 and work back up to 45? I have .050" to play with. Do I seat longer to relieve case pressure but closer to lands will build pressure back up? Any thought yall have would be greatly appreciated.

LA Remmington 700 Bolt won’t close.

I just installed a Criterion barrel cambered in 30-06 on my remmington 700. Checked head space with go and no go gauges MULTIPLE times even put a piece of scotch tape on back of the go gauge and bolt wouldn’t close. Take it off and it closes. Ejector was removed during all of this.

This is my concern I pulled out a box of factory federal fusion ammo 165 grain to check feeding and the first round fed in the chamber but the bolt was EXTREMELY hard to close. All other 19 rounds in the box fed fine and the bolt closed fine. No visual difference in the round that didn’t feed and even tried some Hornady match ammo and it fed fine and bolt closed fine.

Just scratch it up to a bad factory round?

Plumb line distance when mounting a scope?

Hi everyone, i have always used the flaslight method, confirming later using house walls at a distance to make sure the reticles of the scopes of my hunting rifles were mounted straight to gravity.

Now i moved to a new house and i can place a plumb line 20 yards away when mounting the scope. I read on forums that a 100 yards plumb line is better. Why is that? As long as i can focus the rope at 20 yards (my NF has parallax adjustments), shouldn't the process be as accurate as hanging the rope at 100 yards?

Am i missing something?

Thanks!

Optics OPTICS For Sale... US Optics, NF, S&B, Meopta, Leupold, March, Zeiss, Alcan and more.

Hey fellas. Below is a list of optics I've decided to part with. All used but in excellent condition. I am the original owner of all of them. I sold more than 50 of my 150 firearm collection while living an AZ. Most of these are the optics that were mounted on those firearms. Just a high end collector selling optics that I don't need anymore.

I don't have much feedback because I'm new here, but I did sell a couple of optics this week to a long time member and the transaction went seamless. @Duckhunter666

Maggie’s Farm ATVs

We bought a small (<50 acres) farm in MS, and are headed there soon. The former owners took their equipment with them.

Looking for advice on an ATV, not a quad but a Kawasaki MULE or Polaris Ranger type.

Brand recommendations? Necessary equipment? Roof, heater, dump bed, winch, etc.?

What to buy and what to avoid?

Gunsmithing Thread chaser for muzzle threads

I have a barrel with a small ding right on the starting muzzle brake thread… I tried to start a muzzle brake on it to chase it or clean it up some, but there is not enough to get it started and me comfortably put any pressure on it… since I shoot suppressed, I need to clean it up and not affect the alignment of the can to the bore… Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on a tool that would work? Or should I just file that one spot down?

So much for the US being regulatorily constrained on new powder production.

Seems you lot just like to play the victim and make up stories about everything being too hard over there. wE cANt BuILd NEw PowDER facTOriEs BeCaUSe WOKE 😆

Here we go again

Seems like the Dem and Dem media smear machine is in full go mode as we get close to election day. Mark Robinson who is running for Governer in NC has now come under fire for some porn stuff they are accusing him of. Now of course all over the Dem media he is referred to as "Trump Backed Candidate" Mark Robinson. Here is my question.Even before the smear began he was allegedly trailing his opponent Stein by a good margin so why the smear tactics? Any HIDE members on the ground in NC have any real time info there?
