First PRS match next month, interested in opinions on what to shoot

A friend of mine and I decided to sign up for a PRS 2 day match next month in Cambria CA. I've just ventured out past 300 yards in the last couple of years and am comfortable with my shooting ability. I have zero expectations as far as ranking, I simply want the experience of doing it. I do however want to have a decent idea of what to expect. I've read the rules, no issues there. I've been reading some posts on here for first matches (read all 3 pages of Raptoraddicts post) and watched a few Youtube videos from that post. I originally intended to use my Remington 700 in .308 Win but the more I look into it the more I'm having second thoughts. It has a standard floor plate and is not magazine fed. On top of that it's single feed as my hand loads are 2.908" to get to within .020" to the lands so even if i switched bottom metal mags won't work. Thinking about switching guns and using my 6.5 Grendel gas gun. It's lighter, less recoil and has a very similar bullet drop as compared to my .308. I don't think ill have a good time trying to single feed a bolt gun from the odd positions that it seems I'm going to encounter. What are your opinions on gun selection and any other advice for a first PRS match is certainly appreciated. Thanks.

First Roberts Precision Rifle, she’s thiccc in the right places.

My first Roberts Precision rifle

ARC Coup De Grace LA
Proof Research 26” 1.25 Straight in .338NM
Manners PRS-2
TBAC 338 Ultra RR
Hawkins Precision DBM & Rings
Leupold MK5 5-25
Trigger Tech Diamond
Salmon River Solutions ARCA rail

Comes in at 13lb 12oz as she sits. Going to try and get a load worked up this weekend with some 245gr tipped hammer hunters.

Firearms Defiance barreled action (SAC & Spartan) barrels

This is a brand new action and (2) brand new unfired barrels. Both are 25". These aren't prefits. They were chambered specifically for this action by Spartan and SAC.

Defiance Deviant ELITE (controlled round feed) this action was before the buy out - $1695

Area 419 Hellfire brake (6mm) - $170
Trigger Tech Diamond (curved) - $315

Bartlein MTU 7.5 twist blank - $425
Short Action customs chamber and muzzle services in 6x47 Lapua (setup for 105s) - $600 (this is the barrel that is currently installed
Cerakote Barrel - $100

Bartlein 7.5tw M40/M24 blank - $425
Spartan Rifles chamber and muzzle services in 6 Dasher (lapua brass) - $500
Cerakote Barrel - $100

Total investment on my part = $4330

As you can see I've got a ton into the setup. I also have 700pcs of unfired Lapua 6br brass and a set of Forster 6 Dasher dies i can offer for a good price to the buyer.

As of right now I'm not separating anything so please don't ask. The barrels are chambered for this action. Selling the brass does me no good if I still have the barrel etc.

Total for action, (2) barrels, trigger, Area 419 brake, and shipping to lower 48 = $3000

Talk to me about deathgrip infinite or other tripod

I have finally decided to get a tripod. Unfortunately the market is so saturated with them and it's really hard to figure out what to get. I really don't think I can pay 1200+ for a tripod now as I am not sure how much I would use it for shooting and would use it more for my spotting scope.

I am currently look8ng at the BOG deathgrip infinite in carbon. We get a mil discount and that puts it around 315.00. T has a ball mount as well as arca mount for optics and the clamp for rifles as I don't have arca on my rifles.

So what say you guys/gals? Is it a worthy contender ? Are there others I should look at?

Identify this rifle?

I thought everyone could use a funner thread. I just saw a blast from the past (1996) that has me trying to figure out what I just saw. It was s movie “The Long Kiss Goodnight” and this was the rifle:

IMG_2857.jpeg

IMFDB just identifies it as a “modified Remington 700” but I found that far too vague for a cool takedown rifle. Anyone have any idea who made that? Was it ever comercially available or was it a custom job? If it was just a movie prop they went in to a heck of a lot of detail, it just looks like something that “should” have existed somewhere in the real world in the 90’s, it just looks like something someone actually put together and it would be interesting to know who did the work.

Here is the scene:

IMFDB also noted that the same rifle also seems to appear in “Absolute Power” in 1997, and it looks like it might:

IMG_2855.jpeg

Another odd takedown rifle also appears in the same movie, also just identified as a Remington 700:

Any ideas?

October surprise?

Lightweight, heavy cal hunting rifle thoughts?

Hello everyone,

Pretty new here, just getting into precision with one custom rifle. But planning my next build to start in the spring.
This rifle would be more or less a “do it all” in North America. Everything from Brown bear to Elk.

First pass thoughts:
- ARC CDG lightweight action
- Standard sporter barrel - ~22” (maybe 24”) - premium - proof, brux, etc etc
- Stock/chassis undecided, but light
- Suppressed (my hearing is already bad, I know a brake is lighter)
- Vortex Razor LHT 3-15
- Vortex PMR
- Cal - biggest consternation here, really liking the 338 Norma for its ability to fit in a standard LA and ridiculousness factor. 300’s are appealing too, but I don’t own any 338’s, so leaning that direction.

When I piece this together, it’s roughly 8ish lbs. Any thoughts on setup? One of my concerns with going too light on the stock is that suppressed, it might be very nose heavy.

The Plan to Move to Socialism, BHO

"He" didn't do this alone.

"He concluded, quite correctly, that as long as government controls the economy, it controls profits. Most importantly, Obama concluded that to control the economy, the government must control only three vital sectors—health care, finance, and energy. Thus, by controlling profits, the government can gradually impose socialism. Hence, neither revolution nor expropriation is necessary."
