Question here. It will be at the end but to give some info.

First S&B purchase. Well first time really spending any time behind one.
I’ve been waiting and waiting for a S&B that I could afford. And really wanted the EXOS moa.
Finally picked one up.

I know I’ll catch shit for this, but I always compare my NX8 4-32’s to everything. Some want to trash them, but the glass is actually excellent for what they’ve been able to accomplish with the size and amount of lenses.
Their low light is exceptional and the resolution is as well.
The complaints about tight eye box…if people would just take the rear ocular Tenebrex cover off, it completely changes the view. Night and day. It does not have a tight eye box. At all.

Anyhow, this Exos I have. Spent 3 days with it. Like full days.

The eye box is the worst on any optic I’ve ever experienced. Above 12x is super tuff to get behind.
At 21x the resolution is meh. Anything under say 1500 yards seems decent. But looking long range every other high end optic I have is better.
And the chromatic aberration is terrible.
Also, the FOV is considerably less than most all other scopes I have. Including my Kahles 525i’s.
Also see no noticeable increase in dawn/dusk light transmission over anything else I have.
And I’m very much aware on how to set focus and parallax to begin with to eliminate the above mentioned.

The build quality, turrets, illumination, etc is exceptional though. Very nice!

So brings me to my questions.
I really want to like/own an S&B. Maybe a PM2 or Polar.

But, from those who have owned or own any S&B’s, is this typical across the board? The terrible CA, the small field of view, the super tight eye box? The not the greatest resolution at extreme distance?
I can return the scope for a different model, but not sure it will get me anywhere.

I have Kahles 318/525, ATACR’s, Mark 5’s, Minox ZP5, Zeiss V8, Swaro Z6, Leica Magnus, March FX, Leica PRS etc.
All have less of the negatives than everything I mentioned above.

I can’t imagine I have the one that’s slipped by S&B’s quality check.
I guess what I’m getting at is I’m extremely underwhelmed at what was supposed to be a $4k optic.

Today I believe to have ran into my first hurtle with ramshot tac. Being a ball powder and not temp stable how much of a temperature swing cause issues. 5, 10, 20 degrees. I never took temperatures on my first load development this summer. Va hot and humid. Today was 60 degrees when i was shooting. This tells me i need info at certain temperatures if i am thinking correct. Also had my first run in with mirage. Hats of to those compete in shooting or just having fun. Stay there for a got while just watching the mirage affect my glass. Oh and shooting 69gr smk out of a 16" WOA spr barrel.

Got invited to start shooting steel @ 300-600 yards at my buddies club. I didn't have anything capable (my mini 30 is a joke for accuracy) and I primarily shoot AR22's at 50-100 yards.

So I ended up un-dedicating one of my AR lowers and found and bought (I'm ready to get flamed for this) ...a BCA 223 Wylde, 20" heavy, unthreaded barrel. Being in NY, having the barrel unthreaded is one less thing to address for making it featureless... anyway, $235 delivered, it gets me into trying distance on the cheap.

Next up is an optic. For the meantime I'm going to use a Burris Fullfield E1, 4.5-14, but I want a dedicated scope, I will probably will buy something after the holidays. I do try to stay away from China stuff if I can, but it's not always avoidable.

Anyway, I'm going between the arken sh4 and the swfa 10x... leaning towards the swfa. I don't need, or honestly want all the bells and whistles. I like the idea of simple and durable. I understand the swfa is dated, but still pertinent, and I've heard good things about the sh4.

I realize they are 2 very different scopes, but in the price range I'm looking for, those 2 appeal to me most.

Just looking for opinions, or possibly other options to look at that I haven't discovered. My budget for this set-up is about $500 delivered, including a decent mount.

What in the hell?!

Been using Degree CR for decades. Super mild scent, and lasts a full workday.

Got a 5pk from Sam's recently, and opened one yesterday. The smell is absurd. Smells like you did a full day of manual labor, went 3 days without a shower, then tried to cover is up with gas station cologne. On top of that, you can smell it across the room. Also binds itself to clothing and won't come out with a single wash.


So, instead of hording ammo, and food, I'm OMW to hit every store in an attempt to stockpile the old formula.

They're catching hell all over the internet, and I hope it bankrupts Unilever.
Fat chance, but that's what I want.

Up for sale is a complete (from the factory) SR-30 DSR. This has an SBR marked lower receiver and was purchased as a complete rifle. These are increasingly difficult to find.

I assume if you’re reading this you’re familiar with the DSR. Round count is sub 200. This is quickly becoming another “hard to find” appreciating KAC piece.

Looking to seperate our barreled actions from the crowd now that big barrels are the norm. In early 20 spotting our rifles was easy but now just blend in. Thinking of lasering this a few inches before the crown on all builds going forward and offering the splined fluting as an option at a modest cost, will also offering splined tuners.

Havent experienced a black friday on the bolt action side but i assume it might be the same as AR sites. Will that be the time to buy a barreled action, maybe chassis or reloading items. Having some issues loading for my 6.5 AR10. Loading ammo to 2.800 COAL, I have a criterion barrel that simply will not chamber All the way with my reloads. It used to fine but now it doesn’t. I suspect my die is not sizing the brass down enough, as factory ammunition chambered fine.

All the rounds fit in my delta 5 pro but they won’t chamber the last .10 inches of the case in my AR10. They get stuck to the point I have to actually pry the bolt back with something to get it unstuck if they don’t fire. If fired they extract fine. Also the brass looks scratched up tremendously.

I’m using hornady match grade 6.5 dies. I had not had this problem with my other 18 inch barrel from criterion, I even sent this barrel in to see if it maybe needed to be reamed out a little more and they said it was within tolerance. Headspaced, bedded it and gave me a free bolt. I ran 5 rounds through it after I returned from the range of standard hornady 140gr BTHP and it cycled fine working the charging handle which leads me to believe my dies aren’t sizing correctly. Anything else I can do to check? Magazines were fine and the COAL was good on all rounds
