The Hourglass Effect

When choosing ammunition for long-range precision shooting, wind resistance is a critical factor. In this article, I explore what I’ve termed the “hourglass effect”; which examines the performance differences between lighter rounds and heavier rounds of the same caliber. Future articles will delve into other important elements of the larger topic of weight speed and distance.

Im calling it the hourglass effect because before the convergence, one round has an advantage and after the convergence, the other takes the lead with respect to wind. Thinking about a field of fire as a shape can help dissect zones where you might choose one round over another. This bullet comparison can be done for any rounds, but it shows a distinct patterns. Due to the large weight and velocity difference between the bullets used we can see that bullet choice is an important decision point for a rifleman. Plus i’m visual and like to describe things with visual elements....

How heavy is too heavy of a barrel contour for a [hike-in, hike-out] hunter in your opinion?

I'm re-barreling a long action Pre64 Mod 70 for an out west hunt this fall. It's going to be in 30-06 and likely 24".
Based on your experiences and preferences, what would you choose?

And please don't respond with "lift more weights" to justify a heavier barrel. If that were a reasonable rationale for carrying heavier barreled rifles, there would be more guys just hitting the gym and walking around the Rockys with 28" MTU barrels.
There is a reasonable point of diminishing returns for weight carried and comfort of the hunter. I want to find out where that point is roughly at.

Cheers

.223 using Long Action AICS Magazines?

Hi all,

I've been considering a multi-calibre build based on the Zermatt Bighorn Origin long action given the interchangeable bolt heads. Ideally, I'd like to switch between a 7mm and .223. Magazines seem to be the limiting factor though.

Ray from Zermatt isn't aware of anyone achieving reliable feeding of .223 in a long action and Accurate-mag don't offer a compatible option.

Any thoughts? Is it possible to get a .223 to feed reliably from a long action AICS magazine? Are there conversion kits out there?

Seems like Tikka has been able to make it work but I can't find anything out there for Remington 700 clones.

Great analysis of electric cars

This uses Tesla as an example, but applies to all EV’s. Just that the left has a hard-on for Elon Musk since he crapped in their Twitter sandbox. So it’s a pile-on to trash Tesla. Any EV has the same basic breakdown. Including hybrids.

But this is a great analysis of the “real” footprint of an EV!

House Dems Vote to Give Illegal Aliens Representation in Congress & Electoral College

Just another ho hum act by the left. Treason anyone?

The House vote was 206 to 202 with 22 representatives 11 Democrats and 11 Republicans abstaining from the vote.
Steven Miller reported: “House Dems just voted UNANIMOUSLY to give illegals representation in Congress AND the Electoral College. House Seats and Electoral College votes WILL BE added to areas with the most illegals (including all Biden illegals) unless Senate passes the bill. Invasion by design.”

Its past time this kind of shit ends!

Even if dispatch fucked up, or you're at the wrong address, its still on you to verify any/all issues, before using deadly force. There needs to be murder charges brought on this one. Filling the ranks with just warm body's w/o brains, only makes the problems worst.

House GOP Bill Proposes Sending Anti-Israel, Pro-Hamas College Rioters to Gaza for Community Service.

A bill proposed by House Republicans seeks to send individuals convicted of illegal activities at anti-Israel college protests to Gaza for a minimum six-month community service sentence, asserting that “pro-Hamas” campus activists “should get a taste of [their] own medicine.”
The legislation, spearheaded by Tennessee Republican Rep. Andy Ogles and supported by Reps. Randy Weber (R-TX) and Jeff Duncan (R-SC) on Wednesday, is labeled the “Antisemitism Community Service Act,” and targets those involved in anti-Israel demonstrations, which have seen numerous arrests and instances of violence:

“Any person convicted of unlawful activity on the campus of an institution of higher education beginning on and after October 7, 2023, shall be assigned to Gaza for the purpose of providing community service… for a period not fewer than six months,” the bill reads.

“If you support a terrorist organization, and you participate in unlawful activity on campuses, you should get a taste of your own medicine,” Rep. Weber told Fox News Digital. “I am going to bet that these pro-Hamas supporters wouldn’t last a day, but let’s give them the opportunity.”

Pro-Palestinian protests and encampments, which have frequently seen acts of violence and antisemitism, started at Columbia University in April and have spread to several other universities in recent days, including Yale, MIT, Princeton, Harvard, UCLA, and George Washington University.

Despite suspensions and arrests, new encampments continue to emerge:

The protesters have various demands, including urging universities to divest from Israeli companies, sever academic ties with Israeli universities, call for a ceasefire favoring Hamas, and grant amnesty to students sanctioned because of their involvement in the protests.

Additional demands include the defunding of campus police and reparations.

The bill does not explicitly mention Israel or the protesters’ affiliations but links the timing to events post-October 7, 2023, when the Hamas terrorist group perpetrated the deadliest attack against Jewish people since the Nazi Holocaust. The massacre saw the torture, rape, execution, immolation, and abduction of hundreds of Israeli civilians, as well as widespread Palestinian support for it.

The Iranian proxy Islamist terrorist organization targeted attendees at a music festival and those in southern Israeli towns, all while thousands of rockets rained down on Israeli civilian centers.

The brutal attack resulted in terrorists killing approximately 1,200 people, with about 240 hostages taken — more than half of whom still remain in Gaza. The vast majority of the victims are civilians and include dozens of American citizens:

The proposed punishment would involve community service in Gaza amidst ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, aiming to quell the unrest and disturbances on U.S. college campuses, which have already witnessed more than 2,100 arrests despite some officials declining to allow police involvement on campuses.

In a post declaring, “Enough is enough!!!” Rep. Ogles tagged Tesla CEO and X/Twitter owner Elon Musk, who proposed last week that if someone “tears down the American flag and puts up another flag in its place, that person should get a free (but mandatory) one-way trip to that flag’s country”:

Critics have highlighted the bill’s unfeasibility and ethical implications, noting the slim Republican majority in the House and anticipated opposition in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

The proposal coincides with another bill aimed at canceling visas for international students involved in protests:

“If you hate America so much, you should get the first ticket back to your country and attend college there,” insisted Rep. Weber. “The unruly anti-Semites that are spewing hate & discontent on college campuses will not be tolerated in the United States.”

Asheville Reparations Commission Recommends Guaranteed Income Program

Asheville, North Carolina’s Community Reparations Commission (CRC) finally released a list of recommendations it wants leaders to pursue, including a guaranteed income program and the establishment of a reparations accountability council.

The Asheville Community Reparations Commission is comprised of 25 members who were chosen more than two years ago, in March 2022. According to the city, the commission is tasked with making “short-, medium-, and long-term recommendations that will make significant progress toward repairing the damage caused by public and private systemic racism.”

The commission recently released its list of recommendations in four specific categories, one of which is a guaranteed income program. According to a document detailing the recommendation, this program would be used “as a way to ensure basic needs are met for individuals with low-incomes and assets” in the form of monthly cash payments with “no strings attached” and “no work requirements.”

“A guaranteed income is meant to supplement, rather than replace, the existing social safety net and can be a tool for racial and gender equity,” the commission wrote, adding that the reparations accountability entity, along with the city and county, “should determine the parameters of a program, which will benefit individuals who have been harmed by historic, systemic, and ongoing wage and employment discrimination.”

The council concluded that “Black People have been consistently and widely impoverished by discriminatory wages paid in every sector of the local economy regardless of credentials and experience” and have “experienced disproportionate unemployment rates and reduced opportunities to fully participate in the local job market.”

Further, the council accused the city and county of participating in urban renewal, which it claims “destroyed many homes and businesses owned by Black families and greatly harmed many traditional minority neighborhoods, displacing many individuals to public housing and taking opportunities to build generational wealth.”

The council is also recommending additional support to existing neighborhoods to “empower historically African-American communities” in the form of grants. Minimum funds should be, according to the council, at least $250,000 per community. The council believes this will “address the harm imposed by redlining.”

Further, the council believes there should be the establishment of an Economic Development Center for black Asheville residents as well as the establishment of a Reparations Accountability Council, which would “oversee all CRC recommendations implemented by the city and county and their contractors.”

According to ABC 13, this is just the beginning of recommendations of the council, as more are expected to come.

This is not the only push for such programs in the U.S., as Democrats in California, for example, are pursuing reparations bills. This comes despite the fact that California formally joined the Union in 1850 as a free state.
