Whole town evacuated in Iceland

The town of Grindavik (population roughly 3500-5000 residents) on the south coast of the Reykavik Penninsula was evac'd earlier today due to an imminent volcanic eruption. I have a live feed video linked to three cameras posted below if you guys have some time to kill and want to possibly see a real-time eruption. I've been following this for the last three hours. The town is empty now save for a handful of stragglers and EMS personnel. The magmatic intrusion isn't so much of a surprise to geologists as they've been monitoring it for the past few weeks. What is a surprise is it is bigger than initially expected and the recent discovery of a lava tube extending below the town hence the need for the evac order. For the past few hours there has been earthquakes happening at a rate of 100+ per hour. Within the past half hour that rate has tapered off. Which is like a calm before the storm when that happens. When the earthquake frequency calms down, it means magma is close to and getting ready to breach the surface.

I'm posting a couple google earth images below as an aid for the live feed to help give some perspective. Now the live feed shows three cameras and an earthquake map. The earthquake map is on the bottom right. It's updated every couple minutes and there is about a five minute lag between when a quake happens and when the details show on the map. The top two cameras from my best guestimate are near the Blue lagoon area and pointed towards the geothermal plants. The smoke you see in the top right is from the geothermal plant. The bottom left feed is from the greenhouse north of Grindavik (per the comments in the feed) pointed towards town.

Caveat - Now if, when, and where this eruption will take place is anyone's guess. Scientists haven't figured out how to accurately predict eruptions yet. They just know the signs of when one is about to take place. So there is a good chance it won't be caught on one of the few live feed cameras. There is still a small chance that the intrusion will halt itself and no eruption takes place.

I bet this has never happened to you

I was out firing my 22 creedmore today getting some practice in and after I fired a round the following round only feed half way into the chamber and caused a jam.
I thought for a second that I had a case head rip off and the top of the case was in my chamber. Turns out the primer got popped out of the case and then managed to go into the chamber and wedge itself there all before the following round was able to chamber.
The primer did not get punched by the firing pin like you normally see from pressure issues but the interior core of the primer was blown out.

This is new perterson brass with federal LRP and 85.5 Bergers.
I'm using a JP high pressure BCG

For reference these rounds are not loaded real hot. At least compared to how hot I can load them. Only signs of high pressure I get is the ejector marks but I cant stop that no matter how low I charge them.

Just crazy the thing managed to go down the barrel and get stuck. Luckily it was to big to go down any farther so it just caused a jam.

Sizing Dilemma

So I FL resized my 6.5prc lapua brass .001-.002" . They chambered in the rifle first 4-5 rounds, so I finished the reloading process. Now they chamber, but are very tight. I have to force the bolt. Shoulder must have been borderline too tight.

So my options are:
1. pull the bullets and deprime, start over
2. shoot em and deal with having to give it some force to chamber
3. pull bullets and FL size, wipe lube off, charge, seat bullet again

Thanks in advance

End elections now...

Somebody's not playing, couldnt get the link to copy right.

Federal authorities are investigating suspicious letters sent to election offices in five states – Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Georgia.

The FBI said that "in at least four instances, preliminary tests … indicated the presence of fentanyl," according to a bulletin disseminated to state and local law enforcement and obtained by ABC News.

An image of one of the letters obtained by ABC News indicates the intent was to "end elections now."

"We are in charge now and there is no more need for them," the letter reads.

Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs said in a statement Thursday that envelopes containing "unknown powdery substances" were discovered Wednesday by election workers in several counties, prompting evacuations of those offices.

An initial test of a white powdery substance in one envelope that was sent to the county elections office tested positive for fentanyl, the Spokane Police Department said.

Another letter sent to an election office in Washington state had a substance that tested positive for baking soda, not fentanyl, Officer Shelbie Boyd of the Tacoma Police Department told ABC News. The state will take it to a lab for additional testing.

Chris Loftis, the director of communications for Washington State Patrol, said a state bomb squad that responded to an election office in Pierce County on Wednesday found a message advising that the intent of the letter was to "stop the election."

In Georgia, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger confirmed that election workers in Fulton County were sent a suspicious letter and that no other counties in the state appear to have been targeted.

The letter was intercepted before it arrived at the election office, Raffensperger said at a press conference. No motive has been determined, he said.

"We're working with our state and federal partners to determine if any additional Georgia officials are being targeted," Raffensperger said in a statement earlier. "Domestic terrorists will not trample on our right to free and fair elections."

A Fulton County spokesperson said no additional information was immediately available.

In Lane County, Oregon, officials also temporarily closed an election office on Wednesday after a suspicious piece of mail arrived, a county spokeswoman told ABC News.

"Certainly it's somber today," county spokeswoman Devon Ashbridge told ABC News. "I can't imagine coming to work and realizing that someone at minimum wanted to terrorize you and potentially harm you. We're doing what we can to support our staff."

While the incident in Oregon did not impact any election deadlines, Ashbridge said the office closure did delay ballot counting. The office expects to be caught up by the end of the day.

Officials in California also confirmed Thursday to ABC News that the Postal Service "intercepted two suspicious envelopes headed to local election facilities," but have not yet determined the contents of that mail.

Additionally, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI are investigating a letter containing an unknown substance that was sent to the Attorney General of Texas' office, according to law enforcement. Initial tests on the substance came back negative, officials said Thursday.

Authorities did not say if the letter sent to the Texas AG is connected to the ones from other states.

Mental Health/ Resetting

In light of the recent Mental Health Crisis that unfolded in ye ol Bear Pit it got me thinking about what I do to reset/ not go insane. I work my ass off managing projects for a large pipeline company, wife is a Neurologist, we have two little kids ect ect, shit gets hectic.

When my wife and I bought our place in the country I dug about an acre pond, the construction, stocking and managing the fish population to grow big bass has become one of my primary ways to reset. It's like an aquarium on steroids, but it's not frowned upon to eat the fish. It's 100' from the back door, just 20-30 mins here and there is instant reset.

What's your reset method?

something Odd happened to me....

I was hunting (Cow Elk Muzzle Loader).
I was on a herd of 8 and trying to cut them off, but they got around me. I drove my vehicle up a little ways to cut them off. I
jumped out with just my Muzzle Loader and bino harness on. They went above me, I heard them mewing, so I approached slowly. Got close enough to smell them, hear them and get eyes on all of their tracks. They continued to allude me as the wind would shift and they'd get a scent and move quicker. But their tracks were easy to follow, and I did. At this point I am about a mile from the truck. Any way I ended up over 5 miles from the vehicle. I did waypoint the vehicle as I left, just in case, plus I had onyx on my phone, yet forgot to track myself with it.

I got further than I wanted to, but when you are close you don't want to stop. I never realized how far away I was til I got to a place I knew was way further than intended (Power line clear cut) and then all of the sudden got weird ringing in my ear, kind of dizzy, and confused.

I live at 6000', normally hunt at 10,500-11,000'. I spend all summer on the mountain and have never gotten altitude sickness, even up to 12,000 where we snowmobile. My current altitude was only 7100.

Well I decided to let them go, knowing I was a ways from the truck, no water, no pack and made some poor decisions.
I looked at my onyx map and started to head in the direction I thought the truck was at. My sense of bearings is pretty accurate and incredible. I have come out of my anticipated area off course before but never more than a hundred yards or so depending on deep in I went, my directional sense is always on pretty good.

I was about a mile into my hike back from the power line clear cut, when I realized the onyx map doesn't utilize you directional heading as up. So I turned my phone and then got totally confused all at once. It was worthless to me for some reason.
I saw a mountain peak I knew, and then looked at the sun, and realized I was clearly heading North, when I should've been heading SW.
I turned and regained that mile and logged another mile when I again realized my truck was to my right and not just in front of me.
My GPS (In reach Delorme) gave me a compass calibration requirement. I am like "what the heck I don't need this right now".
It said my truck was 2.8 miles away to my right, as I thought, so I ignored the recal.
I am thinking it was only about 1.5-2 at the most, but trusted the GPS.

By now I have logged close to 7 miles.
I'm in pretty good shape, hunted elk, deer in the mountains all fall, logged close to 50 miles this year (early tags filled) and last year well over a hundred.
But by now I am exhausted, short of breath, definitely thirsty, confused and dizzy. Temps were low 40's, I wasn't hot, I wasn't cold.
I stayed as close to an irrigation ditch as I could for as long as I could in case I got to the point where I had to have water.

I have never been so disorientated , confused of exhausted before, ever.

I turned tracking on my onyx, so I could tell which way I was actually heading as I no longer trusted my sense of direction. I wasn't trusting anything my mind was telling me as it felt like I was getting mixed signals from it. 2 more times I went in one direction only to reverse it and head back the other way.
I finally got to the main dirt road, but it was one I didn't recognize and now really began to get anxious.

My back is chronic, yet it was no longer hurting, it went numb. My hips were locking up. My GPS said I still had 2 miles to the truck.
I knew I was in trouble.

I called my wife and told her I needed her to come out where my truck was and follow that road.
Eventually she finds me on the road.
She asks what the heck is going on.

I couldn't explain it
My head was filled with ringing, cloudiness and confusion.
At one point I couldn't even make heads or tales of my onyx map info.
the entire rest of the day I was in a haze.

I removed the clothes I had on and the puffy, under chama hoody and the merino base long sleeve were totaly soaked. I mean twice their weight.
I knew I was dehydrated, yet not enough to risk giardia unless it was a better option than dieing.
lol

I feel it was almost dehydration/ altitude sickess?
But earlier that year...
When I killed my bull (8:00 pm) I stayed on the mountain all night (till 11:30) processing it. it was raining and I had on my outer rain coat.
When I got back to the Ranger to drive the 6 miles back to base camp I was shivering like hypothermia set in.
When I took off my coat I realized I was soaked to the bone, not from rain ,but from sweat. I was again at that first time totally soaked from sweat due to the rain slicker and amount of worked it took to break down the bull.
Yet even in that I never felt cloudy or confused.

I never cramped up, but I did have hip pain (which I always due to a chronic back).
My mouth was dry and I had a hard time speaking to her on the phone. Yet I was salivating and trying to retain all my mouth moisture and not spit it out.

I know this is long, and I am not after you should of, shouldn't have. I am not after sympathy or criticism.... I gave as many details as I can not to bore you but fill you in on what happened.
Has this feeling hit any of you before who have had altitude sickness and or dehydration, panic?
I was only at 7100' and I live at 6000 and am always at close to 10,000.

I never felt panic as I could get on top of ridges and see town about 8 miles away. I knew my general area very well, and there were even homes only 3 miles away from where I was.

Anybody get in this situation and experience this?
