Help with a donation

Myself and my friend who owns Western Whitetail out of Nebraska have been working on a package for a boy in SE Wyoming who had an accident last summer on his family’s farm and lost his right arm. We so far have got a tripod, bipod, and a scope from Vortex donated but we are running into trouble trying to find a left hand rifle in something like 6.5 creed that can take an ARCA rail to go into the tripod for him to continue to hunt with his dad and relearn how to shoot left handed. If anyone has any ideas of who we could reach out to that would be awesome. Seekins was on board but they only make RH actions and that’s just going to be too hard for him unfortunately. So far we have reached out to Gunwerks, Best of the West, Weatherby (they did give a shotgun for the dad). We also tried Bergara and have just not gotten any traction with anyone. Thanks for any help or ideas you have!

Those silly frat boyz again

So the head of DHS head of ICE and Attorney General all think the assholes at the FBI are leaking information to violent transnational criminal organizations in CO and CA so they can avoid arrest. It might finally be the straw that broke the peons back- Would love to finally see them ot for their many and heinous crimes. Like 25- life in gen pop.

USMC Service Records... I know this is the best place to ask this question.

Hello again Hide-

I have a quick question that I was hoping someone could answer here about USMC service records. I'm inquiring on my mother's father side. Growing up I had always heard that he ended up in a wheelchair due to the Korean War but my mother's understanding of his service was that occurred after 20 years of USMC service and was somehow related to a mortar plate. Whelp- when we were talking about it tonight- the math suggests that there's much more to his story (he died before my mother got into HS) than even she understood and her mother (who passed away in the 90's) never talked about his service either but seemed to collect a widow's pension (what my mother called it at least) until then.

My only question is- should one be looking for a USMC service record (my best guess spanning 1938-1958 or there about) what would be the best approach to find out that information? Nothing that'd be all that important other than bringing some closure to my mother now on what her father did (reckon I opened some old & deep wounds when I mentioned the "math doesn't math" unless he was in both wars) given that he passed away when she was about 12.

Anyway- any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Another Squirrel Rifle

IMG_9939.jpeg
IMG_9932.png
Sighted this rifle yesterday. 50 yards 5 shots at 1/2” dot. It took a bit of tapping to get it centered of course. May not be perfect yet, had a bit of gusty wind. It’s close enough for 50 yard headshots on squirrels.
We have a snow storm moving in so first outing will be a rabbit hunt later this week.
Ammo is Winchester Super Match.

New Lapua Brass - Neck Tension

Hi Guys,

I bought some new Lapua Brass to start reloading 6.5 CM.
According to my math:
Brass thickness: 0.015 x 2 + 264 = 294 - 0.003 = 291
so i just got my bushing (L.E WILSON) 291 and start preparing the brass, but when i get to bullet seating (Lapua Scenar 139), it's really tight and hard to push it down ( i'm using K&M Arbor press for the seating)
What is your experience with new 6.5 Lapua brass ?

Thanks for your help.

Does this seem weird to you?

Hey guys, looking at specs on a few scopes and I'm noticing some things that seem out of place. Keep in mind I'm a novice at this so maybe there's a perfect explanation. Or maybe the specs are listed wrong? I don't know. What do you think?

GPO Centuri
3-18x44i 23.3 oz, 13.3", 90" of elevation, 30mm tube
2.5-15x50i 22.7 oz, 14.7", 110" of elevation, 30mm tube

Doesn't it seem wrong that the 3-18 would be over an inch shorter and only a half an ounce lighter? The strangest thing to me is why it would be so much shorter? Also, with the same tube diameter, why would the internal elevation be so different?

Firearms A couple Fire able canons.

Not my deal but I thought @sirhrmechanic might enjoy a look.

Another question about aging parents

Hello Hide,

I think this is the 3rd time I've broached this subject within the past year but feel like I've somehow fucked up again.

My father recently celebrated a birthday (a celebration I wasn't invited to despite living "close enough") that entered him into a new decade. I completely blew it in that regard- I thought the milestone birthday was next year but... nope.

I'm the eldest of 3 siblings, everyone else lives across other states (and we couldn't have pulled off bringing everyone together at the point). That said- I feel somewhat obligated to direct these type of things and corral my brothers/sisters but frankly I don't know how old even I am at this point without asking my wife let alone how old my parents are. Not offering that as an excuse either- just an explanation of where I'm at.

As I mentioned, I can't help but feel like an unspoken expectation falls on me as the eldest child (far from the favorite child) to rally my siblings into having a later celebration for our father. But I'm not gaining much ground there (and before anyone asks he was as good a father as he could be-no issues there, if I would hazard a guess, it's just dang expensive to pull off a celebration is all and everyone is/has been struggling in their own ways.

So that all said (and yes I tend to be lengthy in my posts), one of the things that really bothers me is I don't recall this particular struggle ever being a 'thing' decades ago. Growing up- we always knew we'd go to my grandparents (about an hour or so away from my childhood house) for 'lesser' holidays like Father's Day/ Mother's Day/ Memorial Day/ Veterans Day/ etc and the more "important" holidays such as Easter & Christmas the grandparents would visit their children's houses (but you better believe everyone would visit their house around that time too).

I can't speak for anyone else- but I can't help but believe my own father has the same expectations but the "realities/differences" exist that their kids cast a much wider net than his own siblings did. A long trek home was a 2 hours drive but now it's a plane ticket for the children and their families (TL/DR: thousands of dollars to bring their own families back to "home base").

Anywho- I'm just venting and complaining that I feel that as the eldest child & closest living child I was supposed to make this particular birthday about 10 degrees better than it ended up being (and didn't) It just seemed a lot simpler even 30 years ago on what was expected and what was done but the rules seemed to change rather drastically and I'm still waiting on the updated playbook.
