How heartless can a human really be?

Most of us have seen some pretty horrible things and met some seriously evil people.

My wife and I walk a few miles together each day. For some reason, in the rural Deep South, many people have absolutely no natural sympathy for animals. It is shocking how often we run across dead or dying puppies and kittens dumped on the road just a mile from our house — like at least a dozen times or more per year.

We’ve rescued, conservatively, 30-40 cats and dogs that survived and 2-3 times that number we found dead, often tied inside Hefty bags or just tossed out while moving.

We were walking and spotted a large contractor garbage bag about 6-10 feet off the side of our road. As we got closer we saw the bag move, which is not uncommon. These two puppies were inside — one boy, one girl. I’m surprised they hadn’t suffocated, which means they were probably dumped a few minutes before we got there, as the bag was tied shut and there were no holes.

IMG_5859.jpeg

They were super shy and afraid at first and hid under the stairs.

I can’t help but wonder what kind of human would do something like that to such docile, innocent animals. It’s no coincidence that most twisted serial killers start by abusing animals first.

What’s that old expression about knowing a man by how he treats animals?

Leveling scopes…tools?

I am always looking for a decrease in time and increase in consistency/precision when it comes to “work” in the gun room, and leveling scopes seem to have some room for improvement.

My general method is that I level my rifle on a bench (backyard range), then put scope in mount and level that to a plumb line while doing my best to make sure the rifle is also level. I feel like this leaves some room for error. I do feel better about it now that I have a send it level on my mounts, as it seems to be more precise than a bubble level.

A few issues I have seen: Hard to find a spot on a gun to put a level, scope caps are not always level to scope etc.

I bought one of the Arisaka wedge kits, but its typically useless as almost all of my scopes are in mounts that don’t have clearance or work with a tool like this.

My research has lead me to the SAP Final Scope Level and the Badger Dead Level.

Do you have one or either? What do you like or not like about it?

TLDR: Is a SAP Scope Level or Badger Dead Level worth buying?

Responding to call of man with a gun, they saw a man and shot him to death, the man they shot was bold enough to be sitting under a gazebo in a public park. Unarmed and committing no crimes . That in its self is so suspicious they probably should have shot him on principle

Getting closer - at least they found a man !

The man they were looking was the truck they were were looking for dead by suicide. But can’t expect them to find both the correct vehicle and then the right person on the same call . 50/50 at best like the raffle!

Chronograph SD questions

I am still somewhat new to long range but expanding my knowledge and experience as much as I can. I just picked up a Garmin Xero chronograph with the intention of getting into reloading relatively soon. It’s an amazing unit and super easy to use, but I have a couple questions. What is the appropriate number of shots to measure for an average? What are considered good or bad SD and spread numbers?

I have measured a lot of groups across multiple rifles. Most of the Hornady and Norma factory ammo has come in with SD’s from 13-20. I recently measured 12 shots of 7PRC ammo from Choice Ammunition(Berger 168 VLDH). I was surprised to see SD at 45 with spread of 81. I then measured Hornady 175 ELDX Precision Hunter for 7 shots and got a 13.4 SD with 45 spread. The Choice groups well at 100 yards but I haven’t taken it past 400 yards yet.

What should I typically look for and consider good for factory ammo?

What is the right number of shots to base my averages off?

I appreciate any wisdom, best practices or advice that you can share. Thank you.

Inherited a Rem 700 5R Milspec

A prolific firearms collector(1000s of guns.) Of all types recently passed and I was given a chance to pick 2 firearms. Picked a Sig 716 patrol and the Rem 700 5R. I have shot it a little with a cheaper scope. Deciding on a better than good optics for it. I cleaned it down to metal since it had been shot. It is a precise rifle haveing squeezed one or two 1/2min 5shot groups out of it with hornedy 168gr match. But it's not the most consistant.
My question is how close to a legit M40(exact model?) is it? I don't think it's a world class barrel or anything haha.

Another attack directed at the capital of Americana and the shooting sports culture.

The Tennessee legislative session starts next Tuesday on 01/14/2025 and several non-profit orgs, including the antigun group "Voices for a Safer Tennessee" are hoping to push their "concerns" to legislators to pass new antigun bills.

I have absolutely no, ZERO interest in reaching any "common ground" with leftists and their invasive pest ideology, nor even spending any effort to listen to what they have to squawk out of their yappers. Leftist policies have done nothing but render populations of hardworking people disarmed in their jurisdictions, livelihoods and businesses ruined, homes and businesses burned, and economies circling the drain. There is only ONE message that needs to be sent to those who want to further desecrate home and hearth. And that is:

TRY THAT IN A SMALL TOWN - JASON ALDEAN
