Firearms Sold

22 Creed built by an employee at LRI
I traded for it a couple years ago and haven’t shot it much. Not sure on all the specifics on the build either.
Here is a list of what I do remember or can see
20 inch barrel but not sure on the brand 5/8-24 threads 1:8 twist
M-16 extractor, lapped lugs, threaded insert for bolt knob but has a stiller on it.
Face was trued and threads cleaned up
.20 recoil lug
Side bolt release
20 moa Leupold base
Very smooth operating with good extraction
I got it new and haven’t put 100 rounds through it… almost like new still
$1500 for BA with 20 moa base
$1600 to add the Triggertech field
The only stock option I have to let go is a hogue for another $100
I’m sure there was more done to this at LRI especially when building for yourself in house. I can’t say for certain so that’s why it’s priced the way it is.

How old is “old enough” for kids to shoot Real Rifles

Got another one for the ol Bear Pit

How old should a child be before they are ready to move to a real rifle? Not a BB, pellet, nerf etc.

I remember getting my start at 10yo. Dad made me read the user manual aloud to him and demonstrate I was actually learning. Took me the better part of a day before I really understood and more important recite it back to Dad.

I have some nephews that I’m very motivated to get into the pew pew thing, but I gotta respect the “rules” if I want to have the opportunity.

I still think 10 is the right age, sure kids differ in size and maturity and while 10 might not be the BEST age for all kids I think it’s a pretty good age.

Oh and I’m starting them on a 22lr bolt gun.

How old were you? What was the rifle?

Chainsaw: gas vs battery

I searched, and the most recent thread was from 2020. Battery technology has evolved since then.

Looking to purchase a new chainsaw - either 16 or 18" bar. I"m already into the Ryobi battery eco system, so I have been looking at their 40v saws.

I did own a 16" Ryobi gas saw 4 or so years back. It ran like a champ until I let the gas sit for 6 months. Now it is a paper weight even after I replaced the carb, lines, and spark plug. No start at all.

I live in a rural area on a very small farm = mini farm.

Hoping to find a quality saw via Black Friday sale that I will use maybe 2 to 3 times a year at most.

If I go gas, I will be more diligent this time and run it out after use.

I have no loyalty to brand. TIA for your input.

Picking a new bullet...how do you go through that process.

The rifle in question is a 243 Savage 99 made in the early 60's. It really liked a 107gr sierra that has been discontinued. I can not find the twist anywhere on the rifle. Google says the twist is 1:10 so it should not like heavy bullets.

When I first got the rifle I went and bought a box of several factory rounds in different weights. One of the pictures I have that I really like is my dog Willow not liking one of the boxes.

1732711560849.png

So down to one box left that I just busted open, now I need more. I went with a couple versions of bullet around the 107gr of the old Sierra that the rifle liked. I also have a 223 with a pretty fast twist so it should like heavy bullets, but it does not, anything over 70 grains will keyhole and just shoot like hell, give it good old 55's and I can bang steel at 100 all day. I don't understand. The other 223 with a 1:7 follows the rules.

So with the savage I just went to the range with the 4 or so boxes and put them on paper. It was real clear the rifle likes heavy bullets. How do you go about picking the right bullet, trial and error, or is there some other way. I have rifles that follow the rules and some that dont.

I was just wondering how you go through the process.

Alternative to .223?

Getting a setup together for my 8 year old to learn on. Looking for something 22 cal (so I can use my AEM5) that is .308 bolt face but has similar characteristics to .223 like low recoil and isn’t an absolute barrel burner. Factory ammo would be nice since I don’t currently reload (I know, this is the reloading forum but figure this is the best place to ask). Does anything like that exist?

How do you make Thanksgiving Stuffing?

It’s that time of year again. When happy families gather with all their loved ones and maybe some not so loved ones, to celebrate the bounty life brings, or not.

So the most important question on everyone’s minds is making the stuffing for the turkey, right?

1732662951407.png

It’s probably obvious to all that a good stuffing uses cubed toasted bread with spices, giblets and neck that have been steeped with celery, garlic and onion (the resulting broth used later in the preparation) then broken down to add to the mix. Celery, onion, garlic, poultry seasoning and other spices, all mixed with some additional chicken broth to the right consistency and stuffed into the cavities of the turkey while hot. Then also a large casserole pan of the same stuffing baked with it so that there’s enough.

Then, after Thanksgiving dinner, a later night huge sandwich with turkey, that same stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayonnaise on a heavy white bread for dessert.

I mean, is there another way? 🤷🏻‍♂️
