Lightweight, heavy cal hunting rifle thoughts?

Hello everyone,

Pretty new here, just getting into precision with one custom rifle. But planning my next build to start in the spring.
This rifle would be more or less a “do it all” in North America. Everything from Brown bear to Elk.

First pass thoughts:
- ARC CDG lightweight action
- Standard sporter barrel - ~22” (maybe 24”) - premium - proof, brux, etc etc
- Stock/chassis undecided, but light
- Suppressed (my hearing is already bad, I know a brake is lighter)
- Vortex Razor LHT 3-15
- Vortex PMR
- Cal - biggest consternation here, really liking the 338 Norma for its ability to fit in a standard LA and ridiculousness factor. 300’s are appealing too, but I don’t own any 338’s, so leaning that direction.

When I piece this together, it’s roughly 8ish lbs. Any thoughts on setup? One of my concerns with going too light on the stock is that suppressed, it might be very nose heavy.

JUL 1-3, 1863... (161 years ago for those here challenged by math) things were pretty dang rough here in our country. Far more turmoil than issues like open borders, corrupt media, pandemics, or questionable leadership brings to the table presently but sure that was present even then.

I'm talking about 4 years of absolute carnage, brother against brother- bayonet against bayonet style of fighting... over convictions and an established moral code (yep I said it/summarized it) over how a population would be governed just shy of 100 years into our country's establishment.

With that preface- while we were absolutely tearing ourselves apart nationally, there was one speech, that lasted all but 2 minutes that forever went into history and while I'd have to imagine most of our members here learned about it in school (however many years ago), we can all benefit by a refresher...

Rifle Scopes I think I missed the boat - Nightforce velocity reticle MPVO

I have a thing for BDC reticles. I like how I don't need to think or make any calculations, I just aim accordingly. Add on wind holds, and I get even more aroused. Maybe it's because I'm a dumb Marine and popped my cherry with the ACOG, but it's just who I am.

So I've been looking for the "perfect scope" for one of my rifles, and I ALMOST found it, a Nightforce 2.5-10x32 with a reticle that I didn't even know existed, the Velocity 600. Unfortunately, the one that I found is the high velocity (HV) reticle, and for 308 with a short barrel, I'm looking for the low velocity (LV) one. Several years ago, this would be easy to locate, but now it appears to be discontinued and gone from everywhere. I called Nightforce this morning, and was subtly laughed at for being stupid and not just adopting mils.

Anyway, does anyone know where I can find One of these old NXS 2.5-10x32s with the Velocity 600 LV reticle? I feel like there's got to be some on a shelf somewhere, or some old hunter who uses something more modern nowadays.

is casper wyoming a good spot to move to for work?

Whats the story with the casper area? Is there any good elk hunting around there? How is the crime, cost of living? is it predominately republican or democrat? I have lived in northern MN and the Fargo area so I know what bad winters are like. I would like to eventually retire in wyoming. I have traveled the northern half of the state, but never down by casper or cheyene. I would like to get some acreage to shoot on. I grew up on a farm and have lived in the country on acreage most of my life. What can you guys tell me that I should know?

All new gear setups

Afternoon Folks,

Long story short, we had our house robbed ( I suspect a contractor, but whatever) All long guns stolen (all pretty old 7yrs. +/-) Insurance covered it all.

So, I'm on the hunt for new gear and Its been a while since I've done any shopping or any read any reviews.

Thought this would be the place to go. If we're going to get 2-3 new rifles, covering all the basic needs, what setups would you get?

I don't have a specific purpose, just your basic zombie apocalypse, burglar, occasional hunting and steel. Have in the area of about
2500-3K per not counting glass.

Wisconsin Teacher Who Made Out with Fifth-Grader Faces Life in Prison


Wisconsin elementary school teacher Madison Bergmann, 24, was arrested Wednesday for alleg






The disgraced Wisconsin elementary school teacher arrested in May for allegedly “making out” with a fifth-grader has been hit with more charges and faces a life sentence in prison if convicted.
Madison Bergmann, 24, who taught at Hudson’s River Crest Elementary School until being charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child, is now facing nine additional felonies, the New York Post reported.
The allegations originally came out when the parents of an 11-year-old boy discovered text messages between him and Bergmann, featuring conversations about inappropriate encounters they allegedly had in her classroom during lunch periods or after school.
The teacher allegedly wrote that she enjoyed the child touching her and “making out,” according to charging documents that CBS News obtained.
Upon reading the disturbing messages, the boy’s father stormed into the school with printouts of the conversations in hand.
A subsequent police investigation uncovered even more disgusting details, including handwritten letters found in Bergmann’s backpack in which she allegedly wrote about kissing and being in love with the young student.
“One of my cousins is in the 5th grade and I can’t imagine a man talking to her how we talk,” Bergmann allegedly wrote. “I know we have a special relationship and I do love you more than anyone in the world but I have to be the adult here and stop.”
Bergmann, who was engaged to be married in July when she was first arrested, resigned from her teaching position shortly after the news broke, KARE11 reported.
After further investigation, prosecutors charged her with one count of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, five charges of sexual misconduct by school staff, two charges of child enticement causing mental or bodily harm, and a charge of exposing a child to harmful materials, according to an amended complaint that the New York Post viewed.
Bergmann faces up to 185 years in prison if convicted and sentenced consecutively.
Her ex-fiance, Sam Hickman, is reportedly humiliated that she “cheated with a little kid.”
An anonymous friend of Hickman told the New York Post, “Sam is really upset and heartbroken. He’s embarrassed and pissed. He didn’t deserve this. Everyone is pissed.”
The friend said it was a mutual decision to cancel the wedding, adding Hickman “says it’s f*cked up that she cheated with a little kid.”

YIKES!!

This may be a dumb question, but hear me out?

So, a friend of mine and I was at the range, and I let him shoot one of my pistols with a RDS on it and he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it.

I zeroed it to hit POA POI at exactly 25yds and that is exactly what it was doing for me.

He kept asking me where should the bullet go? I kept telling him where you put the red dot should be the POI.

Anyway, I was like man I don't know what the fuck you are doing, but for me its hitting exactly where the red dot is.

My question is even though it was zeroed for me with my eyes could it not have been zeroed for him the way his eyes look through the sight?

Now this got me thinking with rifle scopes if I zero my scope for me and if someone else looks through it (other than the diopter needing to be adjusted for the reticle) shouldn't it be zeroed for them as well?

I got a friend that wants me to mount and zero a new scope for him and it got me thinking "when he looks through it will it be zeroed for him as well?"

The bad news-i forgot to charge my garmin and it didn't make it through all the ammo. If was also very windy so I didn't get an accuracy test in.

Good velocities but a rather large ES from these for me.

Dead chrono. I didn't get to test the 75's but from my previous outings with them, they had to be moving around 2650. I zeroed it and pushed them out to 400 to verify. Streloks holds where dead on using my previous data for them.


I have a new batch of Badlands coming this week that I'm going to test-they changed some powder and switched the 77's back to the smk from the hornady.
