Please consider helping Matthew Durnford family.

Matt worked at Mile High Shooting Accessories, and was always a gem to talk to. Some of you from the Hide may have spoke with him on the phone or met him in person while dealing with Mile High. From professional standpoint and from a bullshitting standpoint, Matt was a great guy to have in our industry . Frank and I worked with Matt a lot, laughed a lot too. Unfortunately, this Sunday Matt was riding his motorcycle and was involved in an accident, he died of his injuries. He was 28yrs young and was taken way too soon.

Please consider helping us raise money for his family during this tragic time to help compensate for this unexpected tragedy. Rest easy young man, we will miss your “moosestash,” quirky smile and your willingness to help out anyone who needed it.

Frank and I will be attending his funeral this Sunday. This is just a reminder that everyday that we are here is a gift. Our time on this earth is short, make the best of it. Do good things, be spontaneous, have adventures. You never know when God calls you to him.

Uh Ohhhhhhhhhhh!

Newsmax is reporting that the NY State Supreme court has notified Judge Merchan that a "cousin" of a juror had posted on FB or something like it that Trump was going to be convicted, apparently, 1 day before the verdict was announced. This would mean that the juror would have had to notify their cousin, accordingly. They are saying that, potentially, it could result in an immediate Mistrial "with prejudice."

We shall see! 🤠

What AR15 cartridge is a worthwhile step up from 5.56?

What other cartridges that fit in an AR15 provide enough of an increase in performance (increased range, dealing with wind drift better, terminal performance, etc.) over 5.56 that make them a worthy upgrade from 5.56? I know there are the duds like the .224 Valk and .22 Nosler and there are also newcomers like the 6 and 22 ARC as well as the 6.5 Grendel that has been quietly chugging along; but do any of them bring enough of an increase in performance to the table to be worth owning? Or is it just the case that if you want a meaningful performance upgrade step up to an AR10 in .308/6.5?

Thanks for reading and looking forward to your responses.

P.S. this question may have been triggered by reading about what you all are doing with your 6ARC and 6.5G rifles and having a spare lower just lying around...

Thoughts on federal government

Follow me.

The default rule is minimal government intervention, maximum State jurisdiction, and maximum individual freedom.

We don't have a federal Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) because it would duplicate the States's DMVs. Each state has the infrastructure, manpower, and budget to run its own DMVs. Each state is positioned to run agencies according to its needs and wants. For example, Florida would have more boat registrations than, say, South Dakota. New York does not issue as many motorcycle licenses as other states. And so on. There is no need for a federal office to regulate vehicle registration and driver licensing.

We all foresee what would happen if the U.S. federal administrative state set up a DMV. It would require unnecessary additional testing, additional fees, require emissions inspections, safety inspections, and make it a general hell for Americans to register their cars and drive them. By comparison, look at Northern Virginia (Loudon, Fairfax, Alexandria) and personal property taxes and emissions inspections, which add on average in my household $3,000-$4,000 per year just to own cars. A federal DMV would mirror that and be worse.

Now extend this to the Environmental Protection Agency. Who is in the best position to protect Florida's wetlands? Naturally, it is the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Who is in the best position to regulate energy in Texas? It is of course the Texas State Energy Conservation Office. And finally, as an example, why would we need a federal department to standardize education and implement 50 separate states in the same manner? Pennsylvania and California have individual education needs -- individual energy, trade, and banking needs. Agriculture. Disease Control. Justice. The federal bodies are on the whole unnecessary.

No need for an FBI. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is capable of handling its own cases without federal intervention. And if they were not, that is a Georgia problem.

Why do we beef up these federal administrative agencies, with separate budgets and manpower, instead of simply and more efficiently supporting State agencies that already function, or create them new if needed? The answer in part is the federal government creates work, builds the bureaucracy, and justifies its existence by new regulations. A bureaucracy's job is to maintain workload and create more.

Firearms Impact 737 rifle SOLD

Veterinarian bills force sale, no trades.

Impact 737 action
Bartlein prefit by Altus, 22" 1/8 6.5cm
Foundation Centurion with adjustable recoil pad, full arca, dark distressed, standard weight.
Hawkins M5 DBM
Area 419 Hellfire match brake
Timney Elite Hunter trigger
Quantum Gunworks bolt knob (Impact knob still on hand)

Barreled action has 43 rounds down the pipe.
Full disclosure on the barrel, headspace gage scored the chamber which left a tiny lip of stainless about midlength through the chamber. I took the barrel to a smith to get that spot smoothed out. Chamber was not opened up to fix the damage, does not effect accuracy. Barrel barrel shoots half moa easy.

Looking for $SOLD shipped as a package.
I can split barreled action from stock and sell separate.

I'll get photographs up later once I'm back home.

Lawfair against doctors

I’m not naive that the legal system has always been used in some ways politically, but it is corrupted now to the point that it’s only a step or two away from being a Chinese model. This doctor exposed something illegal with his hospital in that it had a transgendered conversion clinic, and now of course he is the one indicted by Biden’s DOJ. At this point I would just prefer if the media and legal system would just be honest and say we are converting you to the Chinese model of government, just accept it, resistance is futile.

Learn to feed yourself!

This thread is an outgrowth of one I did earlier on generators you can find it here. Maybe I should call this number 2 in my survival series. A bunch of good ideas were shared there. Hopefully, this one will also bear fruit.

I own a 160 acre farm. Besides using it for a rifle range, I also farm on it. We have always farmed. I am a product of farmers. My idea of farming used to be tractors, acres of rows of produce, lots of fertilizer, lots of water, pesticides, and lots of dirt. But, I'm changing my mind about this. At least, for some crops. And, this is something you can do in the city in your own back yard! This year, we started using raised beds, and I can hardly believe how well they are working. We are using 4x8 raised beds. In single individual beds, we raised:
100 yellow and purple onions, averaged baseball size
About 100 garlic plants
Over three bushels of spinach
Over a bushel of carrots (and still producing)
Fifty pounds of tomatoes from six plants, and they're just getting started

We are also doing mammoth jalapenos, yellow bell peppers, strawberries, and banana peppers in raised beds. And, they are going crazy. I'm also experimenting with growing potatoes in 5 gallon buckets, and having impressive results. I'm about to start the sweet potatoes in another raised bed.

It's all starting to make sense. In those 4x8 raised beds, you can better control the water, fertilizer, pests, and soil quality. And, because of this, it takes less water, fertilizer, and pesticides. I also put down hardware cloth under the raised beds to keep out the gophers and moles. We are still using open ground farming for things like peas, beans, corn and melons.

The internet is a great source for raised bed gardening. But, be careful. What works for fertilizer and soil prep in Ohio likely won't work for your garden in Texas. Call your county ag agent for advice. Check your soil PH. You can send soil samples to Texas A&M for soil analysis, recommended soil prep, and crop recommendations. I think the last time I did this it was $25.

I started doing this because I think something bad is coming, and I wanted to get the best yield possible out of the smallest space. I wanted to make sure we could eat. And, this is something you can do in your own back yard! The first pic is 6 tomato plants, 24" apart in a 4x8 raised bed. The second pic is 6 mammoth jalapenos 24" apart.

Reloading Equipment Look what we found during inventory + rare brass / inventory enroute + brass that's up to 50% off right now

Optics WTS: ZC420 Zero Compromise 4-20x50 15mil MPCT-1 LCT - Like New

This ZC420 15 mil with the MPCT 1 reticle with locking turrets is like new with no signs of ring mounts. Glass is pristine. Unfortunately, the scope doesn’t fit with my Hawkins Heavy Tactical rings on my custom .28 Nosler action. So I’m selling this to get the ZC527 so I have more tube adjustment as my integrated pic rail action is very limited in terms of pic rail adjustments. Comes with original box, packaging, neoprene cover, battery cover tool, and a set of Aadmount caps. $3,200 shipped. Buyer pays for any requested insurance. Venmo or PayPal works.

Bullet Seating Issue

I just bought a new Forster Micrometer seating die and am having an issue that is stumping me. I installed the die and loaded up a 1x fired dummy round to find the exact spot to get 2.217 case to ogive. Got it set and went to loading rounds in new unfired brass but the measurements on the live rounds were at 2.254. I adjusted the die on the live round until I was at 2.217 on the live round. Well I put the dummy round back in just to see if it was a fluke and it pushed the dummy round all the way down to 2.19x (can’t remember the exact number). Why would this happen? All my primers are seated and the round chambers nicely. Should I just stick with the 2.217 measurement from the live round? I’m stumped lol

Update: I ran all the brass through a FL bushing die and added dry lube to the necks and all is right with the world now. Went in very smooth with no friction.

SOLD FS/FT: Nightforce FDE C662 7-35 ATACR T3 Digillum + NF A696 FDE Ultra Mount - NEW!

Welp… I was gonna keep it and bring it to Kenya with me, but as it FAQING turns out — for some IDIOTIC DAMN FARGIN’ BASTAGE REASON — Nightforce scopes are DAMN FRICKIN’ ITAR CONTROLLED, and therefore CANNOT be taken out of the frickin’ country!!!

WHAT IN THE LITERAL FACK?!?!

When I first got it, I fell in love with this thing. I was super stoked to put it on a nice, new AXSR I’ll have waiting for me over there when we make our final move after the year-end holidays.

So… it has never been mounted or shot. I briefly mocked-up the scope and rings just to oogle it for a few minutes, then put everything back in the factory packaging.

I know legit websites, like EuroOptic and others, only reflect MAP — which is $3,950 for the C662 and $325 for the perfectly matched A696 NF HD Ultra Mount, for a total MAP/List of $4,275 plus tax. I also know that certain dudes with credentials and whatnot can get some nice discounts off MAP.

I’ll list TRADE VALUE at MAP - $4,275.

Cash price wil be $3,250 *shipped* to CONUS via insured FedEx Ground — O.B.O. I think dudes with creds may be able to get a better price, so we’ll see where this goes and if this is a reasonable asking price, which is why I include “OBO”, so feel free to toss me your offer(s).

Also, for the moment I will NOT be separating the scope/mount unless or until the scope is sold/traded and the buy doesn’t want it.

Just snapped these faux toes within the last 30 minutes:

School me on titanium actions

Searched but couldn't find a good thread on titanium actions.
Besides hunting applications and situations that call for lighter weight builds, are there any major advantages and disadvantages to Ti actions?

Does accuracy suffer from either flex or loss of weight near center of mass? Are there barrel tenon or muzzle device issues due to the differences in metal mating surfaces? Etc?

Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks in advance.
